You might remember my Holly Hock Posts a few weeks ago. Hubby drove by the house where they lived, and she had pulled them all up and stuffed them in a trash barrel... He stopped and grabbed a stalk.
and now we have enough seeds we will never ever never run out of holly hocks.... or photos of said Holly Hock seeds. I hope to take photos of our own FLOWERS sometime in the near future, they are about 18 inches high now.
Quick thinking and a good idea. Hope yours grow like the ones in the older post.

Why on earth would anyone throw out the stalks and seeds? Doesn't she want hollyhocks next year?? I absolutely love hollyhocks and have never had any luck with them. My grandma always had a beautiful array of colors against her south milkhouse wall. Happy growing!

ReplyDeleteMay hollyhocks came up from seed but they haven grown to stems and hollyhock flowers yet. Know anything about them?
ReplyDeleteGosh, it looks so dead, but not with Super Bob around, super hero for all plants and giver of life to the dead ones. We used to have hollyhocks by the kitchen door, have I told you about their special bugs? We actually stole them from down by the railroad tracks and transplanted them here. They had THE most awesome little bugs. Tiny little GOLD, totally Golden bugs with trunks like elephants. They ONLY stayed on the hollyhocks, have never seen them anywhere else.

ReplyDeleteWhen I was growing up, we had a whole fence row of hollyhocks. So pretty. I've not had any luck growing them. They either get weed-whacked, mowed down, or eaten by deer. I'm trying again this year and the plants are only about 4 inches tall, so we'll see. Hope they survive!

Looks like you have a good supply of seeds, there will be hollyhocks every where! Aren't hollyhocks biennials? In other words they won't bloom until their second year. I'm not sure but that's what I remember about them.
ReplyDeleteI once had a ton of hollyhocks. They morphed into bejillions of them. When I got ready to dig them up, I thought I'd never get rid of them all! They're still one of my favorite flowers.
