For Love of Cowboy's

Tim Holt 1949

Our cable menu includes Encore Western's. Friday early AM,  I found Stagecoach Kid, starring Tim Holt and his side kick Richard Martin.  The film was made in 1949. I was 5 years old. As far back as my memory goes, I have loved all things cowboy...

My Dad's favorite cowboy was Tim Holt, in the 40's he was addicted to movies and especially Westerns. I tripped down memory lane today and watched this movie.

When TV came along, Daddy loved Bonanza and Raw Hide and Gun-smoke, so did I...

Stagecoach had adobe homes, horses, fighting cowboys and inside the house I could admire old lamps and rockers and tables...

I watched this movie and tried to see it through my dad's eyes as he would have seen the wonders of the big screen in the 1940's...

and I do so wish he could have had Encore Westerns on his TV and he could have watched them 24/7....

and the scandalous of it all back then was this  girl in boys clothes, painted ladies, bad men and good men.  Good versus Evil and Good always Won.

this is the girl that was dressed as a boy after she transformed from teen boy to girl just in time to snag Tim as her husband....I LOVED IT....

  5. My mom loved westerns so I did, too. She favored Alan Ladd and her favorite singing cowboy was Gene Autry...mine Roy Rogers! Watching Bonanza was an event at our house. Frozen dinners became popular about the same time the show did. So, we would eat out frozen dinners on TV dinner trays and watch Pa, Hoss, Little Joe and Adam. That was quite a treat for us because we ALWAYS ate at the table! Adam (Pernell Roberts) was from Jesup, GA...did you know that?

  7. Your dad would have LOVED Encore!! I must admit I never cared for westerns, except for ONE!!! Once Upon A Time In The West, I adore it, it is done very artfully and is a more modern western. You have to see it and give me your opinion! It is in a group of films that are dubbed "spaghetti westerns". As a kid, I also liked the Lone Ranger, are you going to watch the new one with Johnny Depp? Sadly, I have only read bad reviews, but Chatty saw it and just loved it.

  17. I loved old westerns also---and everytime we go to see Dad Adams, his caregiver has old westerns on their TV... Seeing the old westerns always bring back so many memories of my childhood.

Do you remember the Sat. morning serials? I'd go to the movies (sit on the first row) every Sat. morning--and then a friend and I would act it out later at one of our homes... So much fun!

    Hugs,
    Betsy

  20. You really brought back some memories with this post. When I was growing we always watched the westerns as a family. Roy Rogers, The Lone Ranger and Hopalong Cassidy are the ones I first remember watching. I was little and at that time wanted to be a cowgirl like Dale Evans. Then later Bonanza and Rawhide. It was really hard deciding between Little Joe and Rowdy Yates. I had a crush on both.
