Order in the Court Vintage 1860 Courthouse Manatee Historical Village
Territories were - Kansas, New Mexico, Nebraska, Utah, Washington, Indian and Unorganized Dakota
* April 3, 1860 Pony Express leaves Sacramento, CA for St. Joseph, Missouri
Hard chairs, hard benches, hard justice...and a really HOT court room, with NO AC...
No computers on this desk, Just ink and a quill....
A comment yesterday noticed the windows are bigger than the doors. In Florida before Air Conditioning, the windows went all the way to the floor in order to open the whole house to let out the heat and in the breezes.....
Everything looks so well preserved.
ReplyDeleteAwesome pics of the courthouse and furniture. Pure vintage and kept amazingly well preserved. Kids of today must be wondering about the strange times that existed when there were no computers. Have a great week end.

Fascinating. A tidbit from the past and we history teachers love it...:) I have to admit I gave up on trying to figure out the name of my night blooming cacti.... Sorry.
ReplyDeleteLove the quill!...:)JP
ReplyDeleteNice photos but don't you know the heat was terrible. We found a chipmunk "home" in the woods and were laughing that it probably had wood paneling on the walls!
ReplyDeleteI love historical stuff like this.
ReplyDeleteThose wooden benches, desks, and tables are gorgeous!! I'll bet there were a lot of poeple fanning in there back in the day.
ReplyDeleteIs that the original furniture?
ReplyDeleteNow that gives new meaning to HARD WOOD! oh the backside....
love all the wood, but i can imagine how hot and uncomfortable that was.
ReplyDeletelaughed at you inside the pumpkin. :)
It looks so clean, neat, well-organized. But for sure, the heat would have been AWFUL in summer.
ReplyDeleteOf course this wouldn't be of use for modern courts, but there is an undeniable charm to these places. I have quite enjoyed your images from this place recently.

From Brookfield Wis. Great post. I can assume in that heat, justice was swift, I can hear the Judge now "let us adjourn outside for some sweet tea, and get this over with".
ReplyDeleteI love your header.
The inside is beautiful. I love all that wood. The windows are pretty awesome but I wouldn't want to have to clean all of those
ReplyDeleteMadsnapper in NEON!!! Love it, it reminds me of that hamburger fast food place that you posted on once, was it checkerboard? What a treat to actually be able to go inside the court! ORDER in the court is my word for the pictures! Everything in it's place and the wood all gorgeous. I have not thought about the windows and door, but now I see, and on really hot days I wonder if it even would make a difference unless there is a breeze.
ReplyDeleteI hope you are having a most wonderful weekend my friend!

Well it made me want to sit down right there with a cup of coffee and talk shop lol I know odd but that is the feeling I got !
ReplyDeleteHEY MS
ReplyDeleteI LOVE YOUR 50'S DRIVE-IN STYLE HEADER!!! BRAVO!!
OF COURSE YOUR POST IS AN A+ TOO.

I saw a lot of beautiful wood - but to me it looked tough and stern - would not like to have a trial there. sandie
ReplyDeleteIt's so much fun to go back to the old days with your pictures.
ReplyDeleteWow! New Header! I like it!
ReplyDeleteThank you for a fascinating, well-done visit to a prior age.
ReplyDeleteAnd that header is splendiferous!
The inside is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteGreetings, RW & SK
I love all that wood. Back then those big windows came in really handy. If both the top and bottom sections were open the cooler air could come in the bottom and the hot air would go out the top.
ReplyDeleteIf a trail took all day I bet those benches got mighty hard on the butt. LOL!
All the wood makes it very warming, I like it. :) Love your snazzy header!
ReplyDeleteHope you had a great day! The weather has been fabulous here!
it looks so neat and well preserved.
ReplyDeletelove all the wood-thanks for sharing.
your header is a-maz-ing!
Thanks for that mini history lesson. Is Florida hotter now then back then?
ReplyDeleteI love that the place has been so well preserved.
in our first house we had windows that went to the floor...I loved them....great photos...great history lesson...love the new header...
ReplyDeleteFascinating to see the inside of the courtroom and have the historical facts.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if they have educational re-enactments of a court scene there for the benefit of the schoolchildren?
Really enjoying seeing the inside! So glad you got pics....
