Queen of the Night July Blooms

We lived in our home for 18 years and did not know that high in the top of our pine tree, lived a night blooming  cactus. I discovered it because I bought a DSLR camera and began to SEE. The first post I did on it was in 2009, Queen of the NIGHT, which was the year it went crazy with blooms in July and on my birthday Sept 5th exploded with blooms.
If you view the link, you will find  back then my hand was steady and I could take a great shot. As I aged my hands shake and the photos got worse.

Todays post shows July 16 blooms, 24 of them bloomed during the night. Above you can see how high and long the zoom is, the tree is five stories high and they live at the top.. that is all my excuses for bad photos. Thanks for looking. These photos were taken at 6:30 am and by 8 am they were all closed.

  1. Wow! The daytime looking ones are gorgeous! I don't think I have ever seen them when the sky was this blue. I love the huge one with the sun on it! That is my favorite. They are incredible, exotic, and huge. You can do a new post on them every year, because each year you will have different shots. I sure seem to remember your previous post! Didn't know I have been blogging that long.

  3. Those are so pretty. Too bad they couldn't bloom closer to the ground so you could enjoy them even more.

  4. Beautiful blooms and photography, even these days, Sandra! I popped over back down the years and commented there too. Interesting to see that you had a blogger friend (Sunny) She and I were blogger and e-mail friends at the time too. When I lived in Khartoum, North Africa, I remember asking her what magazines were available in the US. She let me know via e-mail and I could send these names to our Muslim General Manager who was flying back to The Sudan. He bought and brought said magazines. What incredible global tools we have these days!

  10. The one in the semidark demonstrates to me what a good camera can do. Amazing photos. You probably notice shaky hands effect more than anyone else. I can't see it.

  12. Oh my goodness Sandra - that is so interesting - I have flowers on the ground that open in the am and then close in the sun. I have never seen it in a tree. You just caught it and happened to see. You are a great detective!
