| This is my favorite of all the lamps I ever collected. It resides on my dresser and has since 1985. I bought it at a flea market for $7.00. |
At one time back in the 1980's I had a collection of 30 oil lamps, I am now down to 6. these are my 3 favorites.

this Lamp is the youngest of my lamps. Daddy bought it for me in a little country grocery store, in 1965.
The blue on is my favorite, it is gorgeous! Your first pic is amazing! The sun has made the glass disappear, but there is a strong shadow. No subject, just it's shadow!

ReplyDeleteI absolutely love your last lamp. I had several in my house in NZ, but it was san old villa style house and they suited it. When I had to get realistic about moving my stuff to England, they (along with a lot of big furniture that simply wouldn't suit a small English house) got sold off. There is something very comforting about an oil lamp, preparing, lighting, trimming....an involvement that an electric light switch for all its convenience doesn't satisfy. (I would not be without electric light however, can't see a bloody thing without a decent light these days.)

I love oil lamps, too. I loved them when I was a kid, too. I never collected them but do have a couple, one the base is really old but has a newer chimney. The other is even fairly old when I think about it...I think I have had it at least since before the girls. One came from Grammy, and the other I cannot remember..

My Mother in Law used to have several of the real thing. I really don't know what happened to them but I think some of the grandkids got them when we had to take care of Dave's mom's estate.

My place is quaint, small studio suite. Love my view and I am two minutes to get to Sid and don't have to go out unless I wanted too. I do walk but I carry so much stuff to share with Sid and take it back. My daughter has my furniture and hundreds of knickknack. My son has items too of mine. None of my furniture fits here my antique but one cabinet where the tv stands. I would of never in 50 years .We had to move. I had to move 3 times to be with my Sid. When they get strokes and cannot move body for being paralyzed. You cant leave them in one city while they transfer him to another city. I sure learned fast. To not hold on to stuff. So now I enjoy yours . Can you please tell chatty Crone I write her but she is not responding. I miss our chats. Tell her I get to see Sid 3 times a week. For two hours. He is a happy guy and he is a lot better then in a nursing home. When we all get back to normal what ever is normal. I get to have him visit me as long as he wants just the bed situation. I am sure waiting for that. Your place is lovely . I enjoy your blogs so much. Nice to see the gals comments I once wrote too and some to me.
Each of them are lovely. i have a green one as well. It came from Hubby's grandpa. I am sure they used it back in the day.

ReplyDeleteGorgeous lamps, all three!!! We have a hurricane electric lamp that looks a lot like that second one. Ours has the top and bottom with the same flower pattern.
