The Apple Shape and the Powder Puff Take Down Part 2

In prior post, the Powder Puff Take Down, you may have seen the above creation of
#OOTD (# outfit of the day) and read the story of taking down our Powder Puff tree.

The above #OOTD ugly jeans are the leg protectors for yard work, I only have one good pair, these are the old ones I wore when I weighed 70 pounds more than I do now.  Thus the "draped jean skirt effect"

The story of the pants is the fact that underneath whatever I wear, the body parts between head and hips is a perfect Apple Shape. This has frustrated me for all 79 of my years. Even as a child/teen, even though I was not overweight, the apple waist was always larger than the bust and hips.
Anything I buy, from skirts, pants, blouses, underwear, if it fits my waist comfortably, it is way to big on the top and bottom.
See the apple above?  In 2017, I found stretch leggings, and a box shaped T-shirt, hides the apple from sight. Comfy and the apple disappears unless the wind is blowing like last week and it presses the box shirt up tight against me then the apple appears.

This size chart is off of Amazon and since they are never correct, I am using it to show you there is no size that is small bust, large waist, even smaller hips. My hips are 6 inches smaller than my waist. NONE of this is my size because I have no size. I must try things on to do the mirror test of
DOES IT HIDE THE APPLE

I created 3 of me showing the Apple Effect, this was a photo of a real apple, sitting on a pepper shaker.

Someone Please Design pants and a top to fit the model below created in Bing Designer

this is my shape, legs/arms like sticks, the more weight I lose the skinnier they get

below is my Failed Attempt to describe what I wanted.
It is all about what you say in AI...

  1. Don't get me started! First, everyone is a different shape, and I think no one shape is worse than the other. We are all different. But problems arise when a body part is far larger than the others. I take different sizes top and bottom. Much smaller bottom, but larger top. And WHY aren't clothes sizes standardized! I was talking about this with Monica just yesterday. Every manufacturer has a different idea of what size 12 or size 18 should be. ALL clothes everywhere should have the same measurements for sizes!

Indeed, I understand...for me it's the excess bust issue. I have to wear tops that fit around the pelmut, but that makes them way too large for the rest of me....and don't even get me started on length...YAM xx

  3. I've always thought I've had an odd shape. To me, I'm too thick in the waist..I totally agree with Ginny about sizes too. Guys have one size no matter what brand they buy but for women it can be all over the place. One brand I could wear a 10 and another I could wear a 6 (not necessarily correct sizes. numbers used for example only)

  4. Hello,

I think women's clothes sizes have changed over the years.
I am sure not sure the manufacturers should get together and use the same sized pattern. I do not like earing anything that clings, I like wearing the longer tops that cover my bottom too. Take care, have a wonderful day!

  5. It’s probably different for guys, but the only problem I have is that the trouser legs are always too long, but I have a wife who has three sewing machines and is very proficient at shortening them for me so it’s never a problem. The one thing I will say about sizes concerns sweat shirts. I have them in medium, large and one extra large and they all seem to be the same size. Perhaps the country of origin is a factor.

  6. If I remember, I need to email you later and tell you my problem with clothing. It sure is a pain...shopping for clothing I mean.

  7. I just loved the failed attempts at the end. Just goes to show that intelligence is not part of what it is about. The fact you have to change what you say means it is training you to 'think like a machine' rather than it learning.

  8. You have my sympathy... I'm not really apple shape but I still seem to have the wrong proportions to easily find clothes that fit well... especially trousers!

  9. You are soooo funny. I love the added drawings. OMG. Yes, had issues with clothes too. Right this minute though, I like everything. Though I tend to wear the same things over and over.

  11. What a stitch you are! I wonder if there's a person behind AI listening/reading your prompts and ROFLAO. (Best job ever!)
Can we switch hips? Mine are 10" wider than my waist. Before I discovered stretch jeans, if I found a pair of jeans that fit my hips, they'd stick out at the waist like a wanna-be shoplifter.

All I gotta say, you're a master at dressing to disguise. Like that cute song, "You've got to AC-centuate the positive, E-liminate the negative ..."

  12. ACK...you are so right in the ways to make the clothes fit properly.
I have to say I am a pear shape..always have been, even with the weight loss. Now I am having to loose some of that gained weight again..no fun.
Coming up with a standard size # would be so wonderful.
Going out in our backyard again in a while. Pulling weeds is never ending. We will conquer the jungle or die trying..haha...

  13. No matter your shape - you did fantastic losing all the weight. I can't believe you are apple shape. Sandra I am apple shape too - but heavier. My pants to fit my waist are HUGE. I am so frustrated. I have bought the stretch pants but the big stomach always shows!

  14. Glad you had those pants to work in. I think you look great. I have a large middle because of my steroid use. I do like leggings a lot.

  15. This was so much fun. I guess most of us are in that age bracket that has distorted our shapes so much that we don't know who and what we are anymore. I was a straight size 14 for years and years. I've since learned that size 14 doesn't really mean anything specific anymore. Sometimes it is large, sometimes it is XL. Either way, it doesn't really fit anymore like it used to. My shape used to be more hourglass when I was young, well, sort of, not totally, but more like a figure 8 than an apple. But now, I feel like a blimpie. I used to wear pants with a belt and zipper. No more. Must have stretchy waist. My MIL told me that day would come when she only wanted Alfred Dunner type clothes and I thought they looked too dowdy. Now I understand. Forgive me, MIL. There's so much more that I understand now that I didn't understand when I was a young whippersnapper daughter in law who thought she knew everything and that my MIL was just old fashioned. Now I understand. I hope she's smiling at me from heaven. LOL.

  17. Thanks for making us laugh - we needed that. Mom's problem is that she has long legs and long arms. Most "tall" sizes are also BIG and tall. She is not BIG at all. Then there are the feet - size 10 1/2 AAA. Most shoes, like 99.99999% don't come in that size - so her shoe wardrobe is extremely limited. We are glad all we have to worry about is a collar that fits.

  18. Great post! I'm pear-shaped, which is easier to deal with. I have to go to special websites for shoes. There's no way the standard medium width works for me. When we were in France I found a pair of men's shoes that would have worked, but they wouldn't sell them to me because I was a woman. How ridiculous was that!!

  19. I don’t know what kind of shape I’d call myself now. Probably out of shape! ;)
