Come Dance with me

collage created with 3 photos

I have decided to go back in time and share some of the fun things I did during my 5 years of volunteer service at a nursing facility. I am starting with photos from several dances we had. I was the photographer/volunteer at all the activities and dances.

I chose to start with these because I have been looking for ways to exercise at home. I visited Catherine of Corner of a Cat's mind and you must view this video of how she is losing weight..

You can tell all of the residents, even the ones in wheel chairs love to dance.
.

Catherine inspired me to start dancing to the music, not with the hula hoop, but just dancing. Yes, alone.
When I commented to her that I am dancing, she sent me this video of an 88 year old Nana..
to all of you... I challenge you to Come Dance With Me.... for more fun Pop over to my other blog and see Jake Fourpawsetc

  2. I've done that many times. When 50's and early 60's music comes on, I cannot stay still. Now I'm going out to buy a hula hoop. I could do it in 1956 (or 7 or 8) but now sure now. Run-around Sue. It's taking me back to a Tuesday night in Moses Lake Washington in 1963.

  5. Honestly I have watched the Nana Dancing Video at least a dozen times now. It just makes me happy. Should we all live to 88 years old and be as spry and inspirational as this ol' gal!

Happy Saturday Sandra - keep dancing!

  6. BTW - I'm making a prediction that Nana's video shows up on Ellen soon. Maybe even Nana herself on the show! Wouldn't that be fun? Ellen Degeneres inspires people to dance and so does Nana! :)

  10. That video was wonderful! When I asked MOM why she does not dance, she just busted up laughing. She said I don't dance. But you know what? She does with me.

  14. Go NANA go!! This was a wonderful video and I loved when she told them to play it again!!!
Years ago (gosh it makes me sound old) I worked with older folks at the YMCA--teaching water and chair aerobics. These photos reminded me that they were just "kids" in wrinkly skin :) Loved them to pieces.

  23. These are wonderful!!!! And I know it is not just the dancing, but YOU who made them laugh!!! Hula Hoop lady is amazing!!! And it is weighted, too!!! Now just how long will it take for Jake to totally decimate a stick like THAT? Are you going to dance? I was always going to get a Richard Simmons DVD, but never did...he would have all the right moves!!

  26. Yep dancing is a good way to have fun and lose weight. The hoop looks a bit tricky though. have you tried Zumba classes ? Also the Wii is good to use at home to do exercise. There are two good discs one is "Wii Fit Plus" and "Wii Sports". Lots of fun too.

  27. Dancing does lift my spirits.

I heard a speaker one time said we get stuck in a rut because we forget to do things that make us feel good.
Her point was twirling. If you just spin around a few times a day, it lifts your spirits. She made a few funny points about someone fussing at you and you just twirl and say something like thank you. I may have to try twirling and see if it works.

  28. Nana can really move. I'm thinking maybe she was an American Bandstand fan way back when. I love to dance around the house, just ask my cats. Usually one of them gets to join in.

Have fun and dance like no one is watching.

  32. Inspiring post.Your friend makes the hoola hoop look easy. I would be dead after 20 minutes LOL Dancing would be fun...I would have to slow dance...but moving is what is important. I just notice we have another thing in common...I also volunteered at a nursing home. I taught arts and craft for seven years at a state run nursing home.
