Healthy Ramblings of MadSnapper

Bob eats oatmeal every day, when I eat it I feel like I have not eaten because there is no chewing involved. s my new favorite way to eat oatmeal is......

3/4 cup Plain NO Fat  yogurt, stir in 2 tablespoons uncooked oats, add chopped walnuts and sliced half of banana....  I invented this dish all by myself. I LOVE IT.

(I buy the large plain no fat yogurt and stir two sweet and lows packets in it and store it that way. use your choice of sweetener )

Per the doctor on a talk show  when the banana gets brown spots and is still firm enough to eat, that is when it has the most cancer fighting _________in it. I can't remember the word. HELP ME PLEASE.

Splenda generic

Per another doctor on talk show,  Researchers found that consuming Splenda caused blood sugar peaks higher by 20 percent and it caused higher insulin levels.
The research team gave water to 17 very obese a glass of water with Splenda in it and the insulin peak was 20 % higher than when they drank just a glass of water.

this means it might not be good to use it if you are diabetic or trying to cut back on sugar....

  3. We have oatmeal about three times a week--the old fashioned kind that cooks for 15 minutes. Topped with toasted walnuts will give you something to chew on!! Since we don't do artificial sweeteners, we top it with a spoonful of maple syrup and a lot of milk.

    Best,

  4. Uncooked oats. Interesting. Very interesting.

Oh yes, one has to look into all the Not-Sugar-Stuff. And find the info source, which we each believe. Etc.

Same as everything, we have to be our own Doc, Teacher, Instructor, etc. But that's logical, isn't it? Why should people wait for someone else, to inform them of everything?

  5. My more is not a fan of oatmeal so I have never tasted it. Except in her yummy peanut butter cookies. But your oat meal looks very yummy. I'd be happy to lick the bowl.

  12. I wrote your recipe down and we will make it!!! Sounds good to me. We do use Splenda here but I just told Jim that we should try the other with sucralose.

  13. You make your oatmeal like a yummy dessert. I've learned about a lot of cancer preventing foods, but bananas are new to me, especially at this certain stage. Meant to tell you I remember these beautiful tomato plant photos! Is this one new or from the old group? SO pretty!

  14. I like the breakfast dish you invented -- it sounds delicious. We use generic Splenda. I guess we'll just have to be careful with it.

  15. I love bananas but I prefer them before they get brown spots (not green but not overripe either). In general I'm a bit suspicious of the artificial sweeteners, better try to get used to less sweet food (?)

  16. I don't add sugars or substitutes to my cereal, but I add some Stevia to my yogurt that I have for lunch. I will bring up the Splenda in my diabetes support group that's meeting tomorrow. Thanks for that, it may be disappointing, but helpful to some in the group.

I eat cooked oatmeal with walnuts and a not so ripe banana with soymilk for breakfast. Now I have to add some All Bran to it. Ripe bananas also cause your blood sugars to rise. If you have diabetes.

  17. I wish I liked oatmeal more...but your pics look good of it. Not good for my diabetic family that uses Splenda

  18. I don't know what the word is you're looking for by I do know that I only eat my banana's when they have the brown spotty marks on them. How do people eat them when they are green? they are horrible.

  19. Wow! Thanks for that Splenda info. I've evidently got to make some changes.

  20. Thanks for passing along the doctor's info. I didn't know that about bananas. And, I agree, you have to have crunch to make the eating worthwhile.

  21. That sounds and looks very healthy to me.
Didn't know thy about bananas, very interesting.

  22. Best way to start the day. Healthy. I like a bowl of Cheerios followed by a low fat yogurt.

  23. Yummy looking breakfast. Anything added to yogurt is delicious. I like the vanilla instead of plain so no extra sweeteners needed. My favorite is to add a granola type cereal and a few raisins or berries.
The granola has oats already in it.

I don't use a lot of sweeteners but I sometimes buy Splenda or Stevia.

  24. I eat almost the same thing you eat for breakfast. Here's what I eat:
Walmart Brand Greek Plain Yogurt (more protein than the other Walmart brand); 2 tbsp of wheat bran (lots of fiber which I need); Splenda (yes I do use it --the Walmart generic brand) --and my sugar levels are fine; 1/2 banana and 2-3 fresh strawberries (or whatever fresh fruits we have).... Very similar to yours!!!!

I don't like squishy bananas.. I like them to be quite firm--so I am probably not getting the stuff which fights cancer in it... Oh Well.. We all just do the best we can.

    Hugs,
    Betsy

  25. Your breakfast does sound yummy! But, when it comes to bananas I don't like them when they start getting brown spots, I actually prefer them a tiny bit green. :)
I only use real sugar. :)

    ReplyDelete
  26. I stopped using the artificial sweeteners I think a small amount of real sugar is better for you... But who knows they change their minds every time you turn around

  27. That artificial sweetener is awful I would rather have no sugar. It has been toted as being carcinogenic .

Bill makes Birker Muesli a bit like what you do except he makes a tub of it and keeps it in the fridge. He doesn't put sugar in but he puts orange juice in which makes it sweet.
He puts oats, nuts, sultanas, orange juice and yoghurt, Then puts it in the fridge overnight to soften the oats a little. We add chopped fresh fruit on top before eating.

  29. I never did care much for hot oatmeal cereal. Now put oatmeal in a cookie or something else and I love it.

  30. Was that just with splenda or other ones too? And uncooked oats? sandie

  31. I was getting sick for awhile (really bad stomach pains, dizziness and headache) and finally realized that I was reacting from using Sucralose!!! I can't use it. I have been using Stevia for a few months now and I seem to be OK with that.

I love yogurt, oatmeal, bananas and nuts. Yum!
