I love my Saturn Vue, it is a 2003 and only has 65,000 miles on it. Looks like new and in perfect condition but for one thing.
it needs a 4800.00 transmission.
It is so easy to drive and fits me and has this wonder contraption to hold shopping items.
I am taking time off to mourn the fact we have to either fix or buy and I can't make up my mind... See you when I see you
PS, I sat in 21 cars today and did not like any of them..
Bless your heart... Big decisions!!!! I'll say a prayer that you can find just the right vehicle... Shocked that a transmission would go out when your vehicle only has 65,000 miles on it.. I realize that it's a 2003 ---but still????? GADS!!!!

First of all, I'm sorry for your car woes. Now for my two cents. I'd probably get a different car. That's a lot of money to put in an older car.
ReplyDeletePS I love my Toyota Camry. We're on our third one and they've never given us any problems other than regular maintenance. No big problems ever. We put lots of miles on cars and they were still running good at over 200K miles. Just a thought if you haven't looked at them. The Toyota RAV is a cute little SUV, but to me they are a bit rough riding.

ReplyDeleteThat's not many miles for a transmission to go out. I have a 2003 Honda CRV that I love. It has 97,000 miles and, knock on wood, has had no major problems. And, it's made just 30 miles from here. Before that, I had a Volvo 230 station wagon that I put 179,000 miles on. Our son then got it. He sold it with 248,000 miles on it. I still see it driving around town with the original paint job. We never had any major output on it either. Good luck with the hunt.

Oh, Sandra......I am so sorry. We always think things are running along so smoothly and then BAM...something like this happens. I absolutely hate looking for cars! I get just plain miserable. So Jim goes (and he loves it) and when he finds something he thinks we will like ...then I go. One thing is for sure...take your time with this!

ReplyDeleteMy sympathies! It's hard to try to "fit" into another car when you love the one you've had. That is a cool contraption for holding groceries. All cars should have that.

ReplyDeleteThis is a big decision! I know I don't like car payments. I believe in not being car poor, so I don't normally buy brand new. I would flip out if my car needed a transmission at 63,000 miles! $4800 is a lot of money for a repair.

Oh, Sandra, I'm so sorry to hear this. Aren't they discontinuing Saturn? If that's so future parts may be hard or expensive to come by.

I like that thing that holds the groceries in place. Sorry to hear the Vue needs an operation. If this were surgery wouldn't you want a second opinion? I'd check around first. It just seems strange the transmission would fail after only 65K miles.

ReplyDeleteSorry for your Vue woes...I hate this type of decision. I have a Rav4, and love its dependableness, before that had a Toyoto Camry that we sold at 150,000 miles, and the last my husband heard, it is still going. We sold it in 2007....
ReplyDeleteBut if I could I would get the highlander...Sarah had one and I loved it...the Rav4 is just a bit on the small side to me.
One of my brothers got a Subaru Forrester, and they like it. He was a rural letter carrier, down there on those back roads and Subaru was the best lasting vehicle he ever had.
I bet you needed all this feedback like you need a hole in the head...so ignor it....

ReplyDelete65 K is way too soon for a tranny to go out on you. Sadly if you put $4800 into a new tranny the car will then be worth about $3500. Raw deal.
