Construction of this home was completed in 72, 9 hour days at a cost of 350,000, in 1929. It took 120 days to furnish and occupy. Longer than it did to build it.
The house was heated with steam radiators and all fixtures were porcelain.
The stairs above lead to a porch that is behind the wood frame you see below. the doors open into the hall or the bedroom that belonged to the lady of the house.
the view from the porches if the beautiful Sarasota Bay.
We were resting after the tour and you know who was sitting on the wall snapping photos of unsuspecting friends... the best was yet to come......LUNCH...
The balcony is charming and colorful !
ReplyDeleteIt really is a beautiful home. Amazing that they built it so quickly!
ReplyDeleteI wonder why they chose to make the balcony from wood.It makes it stand out for sure. I bet the furnishings were elaborate! What was for lunch? :-)
It is always amazing to me how many i,d estates were able to be built so much faster than today's modern homes AND they have also lasted a lot longer! This looks like the sort of place we would have fun exploring. And, did Crosley also have his name on radios cause I believe my parents had a small white pne in their kitchen for years.
ReplyDeleteThe wooden balcony with the coloured spindles is pretty. I can just imagine how the interior must have been furnished. The ladies look as if in need of refreshments after the grand tour.
ReplyDeleteHow pretty!
ReplyDeletelove those rowels! neat!!
ReplyDeletei guess spindles is the correct term.
ReplyDeleteSO majestic! I like the balcony.

That looks like a delightful tour. I really like the house architecture and especially those railing spindles. What character.

So interesting.
ReplyDeleteI love the wood work.
What a magnificent estate.
ReplyDeleteI would have to have servants to keep a house that big.
Those older homes have so much character.
ReplyDeleteThis place is fantastic, I love that painted wooden balcony.
ReplyDeleteSuch a pretty house
ReplyDeleteThis is such a beautiful place. I love the railing and how colorful it's painted
ReplyDeleteI LOVE that balcony with it's colorful adornments. I'll bet the view from up there is gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteI'm beginning to remember the name Crosley as related to automobiles (you know I love the old ones).
Looking forward to hearing about lunch.
This is a beautiful mansion. It's surprising that it was built so quickly -- only two-and-a-half months.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! I could move right in. It's amazing how quickly they built this in 1929. Now, what did you have for lunch?
ReplyDeleteAnother beautiful house, i love that balcony. Wouldn't mind staying there for a while. Happy Friday!!
