Caution! Details Matter

I spent many hours looking for just the right cup for my coffee. See that Post HERE

For some reason a couple of weeks ago, I picked up my powdered creamer and READ THE DETAILS
It said 1 teaspoon 10 calories.
that doesn't sound like much, but I LOVE my coffee WHITE, and for years I have picked up this little jelly jar and dumped a pile of it in each cup.. I measured what I dumped and it was almost a tablespoon.

I drink 3 cups every day and sometime 4 if Bob doesn't drink his 3rd cup.... my calculations told me I was adding about 120 to 130 calories per day to my caloric intake.. YOWSA! now I have the little 1/2 tsp in the jar and measure 10 calories per cup, and hope to ween myself to 1/2 tsp per cup. SOMEDAY

 Details do matter.......

  1. I shamelessly make my coffee light with the real thing--half and half!!

  2. I make my coffee light and sweet! And I use real sugar! Hubby usually picks out my cup for me. :) I usually have one to two cups in the a.m. and then iced coffee later in the day. :)

  3. Mom LOVES (LOVES) coffee. She does not use a powdered cream, just a very little cream w/ no sugar. She drinks several cups of it. Oh yes she loves taking photos of her coffee creation too. Happy Friday! Lots of Golden Woofs, Sugar

  4. You sound like me...or like I used to be...my brother always said I like a little coffee with my cream! I don't think I use a tablespoon now...but you have me curious...think I will measure one of these days. And normally I only drink one to two cups per day.

  5. Haha. Sorry you found out the bad news, Sandra. :-) I used REAL cream in my coffee for years and years. Then a few years ago I decided to start drinking it black. Not because of the calories, but because I wondered if I could break the habit. Now I have no desire for it. I do find that the quality of coffee I use does matter. I think that my cream covered up a bitter coffee taste. ANYway, hope you have a good weekend. BTW, that gorgeous, colorful header thrills me every time I see it! Praise God for giving us COLOR.

  7. I confess, I love half and half in my coffee and have never looked to see how much damage that does to my diet!

  8. I am fairly convinced that there will be coffee in heaven. :-)

I used to always take mine with cream and sugar, but now occasionally, I enjoy it straight black. It has to be hot, though. Try it black again and see if your taste buds are happy with that. Maybe you can still have the same amount of coffee, but only some with creamer.

  9. oh I use the powdered for years. I am now weaned off the cream period. I love my coffee also. We have Timmys in Canada. Which is close to your great flavor brands at the stops..

When I go to family I buy my creamer with the spout .

I dont know how I ever drank real cream. Yuks.

Oh cute container. I have a few around of them.

  10. I've always felt that the the print on some of that nutrition information was so small that they wanted us to ignore the details. Fortunately I drink my coffee black.

  11. Growing up my grandmother would make me coffee milk. I must have my coffee very light but since I seldom drink coffee the calories hardly matter for me. My favorite is coffee after a nice dinner in a restaurant. Of course that's with a great dessert!

  12. WELL MS YOU AND MOM ARE ON THE SAME WAVE LENGTH TODAY....COFFEE.
DETAILS DO MATTER WITH COFFEE MUGS TOO...LIP CANNOT BE TOO THICK.
MOM DRINKS HER CUP OF JOE HOT, BLACK NO CREAM NO SUGAR. BUT THE CALORIES NOT IN HER COFFEE FIND THEIR WAY TO HER ICED SWEET TEA. MOL
    HUGS MADI AND MOM

  14. Your little jar is s much prettier than those awful bright colored plastic bottles they come in!! There are so many ingredients in those powdered creamers, dozens! But they do taste wonderful. So we use the little Mini Moos. They are real cream, yum, in tiny little tubs like in restaurants and really good. I did the same thing you are doing right now, only with sugar. Back a few years ago, I actually weaned down to NO sugar!! But I backslid. Oh,well, I don't drink coffee every day anyway. They are finding more and more how good coffee is for you!

  15. Amazing how fast a little of this and a little of that add up on the waistline.

  16. I like a bit of white but not so much. Gene's coffee looks more like a cup of milk than coffee...it is so white from the creamer. I don't drink a lot of coffee but do enjoy at least a couple of cups in cold weather. Calories can sneak up on us in places we sometimes don't think to check out. Hugs

  17. MOM likes her coffee too. But she does not drink it in the summer. But when it is cooler it is black with that hazelnut sugar free stuff in it.

  18. The heat of the coffee burns up the calories. Didn't you know that???

  19. It is really the little things that count.Good luck in the process.

  20. Yes...amazing the things we do without thinking! I found that out when I had to start watching my carbs. It was shocking to find out how many I had been consuming!

  21. I love Gail's comment about Hot coffee burning the calories...Makes sense to me.

I do like my coffee black (I guess it's the Swede in me).
I usually only have one cup and day and that's with breakfast...so maybe not so much a Swede since it's only 1 cup! (:0)

I do like the flavored creamers on occasion though.
Good luck in the weaning process.

  23. With warmer weather I've only been drinking one cup of coffee in the morning. I use the international delights flavored creamers and I never bother to measure. I think come winter when I'm drinking a ton of coffee again I'll have to keep an eye on that

  24. and that's why I don't drink coffee!! Just kidding, don't really like the taste, but love the smell. good luck on the weaning!!

  25. I like that little jelly jar.
One of the first things I read on a label is the serving size. The manufactures make it sound like there are hardly any calories at all until you realize it's a tiny serving they are talking about.

I drink my coffee black but once in awhile I either buy a container of the International coffee creamer, liquid not powder, or I stop at Starbucks. So much for counting calories.

  26. I guess it has to do with HOW you really love your coffee... I use Cremora (the liquid Sugar Free kind)---but it has alot of calories also. I decided that I liked it in my coffee --so I 'accept' the extra calories --and cut back somewhere else. Can't win 'em all---but I don't want coffee unless I like it!!!!! ha

    Hugs,
    Betsy

  27. Yes, they do! But I cut down elsewhere so I can have WHITE coffee and WHITE wine!! You have to have your priorities!!

  28. I do love my coffee, but drink it with a few drops of milk in it only. I do have too many coffee's in a day though, but it's hard to cut down on something you really like.

  29. It's so easy to think little things like that don't matter... I don't drink coffee and don't take milk in my tea either, but I'm sure I have other bad habits! I'm still losing weight this summer though, about 8 kilos (17 pounds) since mid May.
