Final Friday Feature-Knives Out, Mystery

I have been known to toss out a spoon, or two.
They always return, when, not if I do.
When I toss out the dishwater into the backyard rubbles
they are hiding in dishpan, under the bubbles.
Never,  have I ever tossed out more than two, and for Seven Knives to go missing at is really a LOT!
In fact, 7 is almost all we've Got.
We only own 8 butter knives, 8 is all that we own,
I sat to Beau, do you think you can find them, if I pay you with a bone?
Seven of Eight knives went missing, you see.
I was in a dither, yelling out loud where could seven knives be?
The first place I searched was the kitchen drawer, where they have been for 38 years.
This is no lie, I was frantic and  in tears.
I cried because the knives can be replaced, but my memory can NOT.
This 81 year old brain is all I have got.
Dont' get upset, or feel despair,
because the THIRD time I checked the drawer they were THERE!
UNDER THE 12 TEASPOONS!

I say, UNDER 12 SPOONS, I have absolutely no memory of LIFTING 12 SPOONS out and putting 7 knives under them and putting the spoons back.
Since I am the only human that can walk and do this, and the dog has no hands to open a drawer or hold spoons and knives, I KNOW I did this, but HOW?
I did spend a while figuring out why we have 8 KNIVES and 12 SPOONS and the pattern is the same. I finally remembered, I bought two sets, same pattern, one was 8 of everything. the other was FOUR of everything. That was 40 years ago, so WHY can I remember THAT? and not THIS?
Who let the Knives Out and put them back IN?
Its a Mystery to ME!

Maybe you're housing mischievous elves? ... Google AI: "Mischievous elves are
playful, often magical beings from folklore and modern stories, known for causing harmless trouble, from ***hiding household items*** and making messes ..." (etc)

Well at least you did find them. My forks and spoons both have been dwindling. I thought most were because Wade used to take one to work for his lunch. But I'm pretty sure some have gone missing since he passed away

Oh I know this experience sooooo well!!! I have absolutely nobody to blame but myself for the mysterious disappearance and reappearances that occur around me. Even in The Grey! How does it happen????? Because we thought it was a good idea at the time to do something different from our routine? Because we were thinking of one thing while our hands did another? ... Because AGE took over (Artificial General Exemption) and obliterated the moment of action? Sigh... YAM xx

Good morning,
That is a mystery! I am glad you found them.
I was thinking of the disappearing socks, does the dryer eat them?
Hubby thinks he sleep walks and does things, who knows.
Take care, have a wonderful day and a happy weekend.

A little elf (after all it’s Christmas and elves are about), decided that you are so much fun to live with and moved in for a day or two. Elves, of course, are invisible to the human eye, but they are filled with cheerful merriment. Don’ t be surprised if you find your shoes in the sock drawer, mismatched socks, sugar in the flour container, and who knows what might lurk in your underwear drawer? Just enjoy it all and don’t fret. As sure as coyotes howl at the moon the sun will rise tomorrow and all will be well.

How entertaining you are!
What's funny, a goodly part of our family Christmas table conversation was about missing silverware pieces. Lois finally ordered a 20-piece set of forks from Amazon ... surprisingly weighty for few $.
I'd blame those mischievous elves!

Dang, I'll check around and see if one of our gang did it. Big hugs from all of us.

You are overworked and overstressed — so don’t worry about your memory circuit being overloaded. Please take care of yourself as best you can. ❤️

I LOVE the way you wrote this. Very entertaining and just a joy to be a part of your blog and world. Huggs.

PS: This is my bad for saying dumb phone. I actually have a smart phone it's just all the google stuff sorta ripped out and uninstalled where possible. The phone can't go online - so I call it dumb phone. Sorry about the confusion. That said, say I traveled for work or didn't want to go on a desk top, laptop and/or tablet, then I'd let that phone go online. But since I have the noise elsewhere, I keep my phone quiet. So I guess, more of a quiet phone sorta thing.

So glad that Beau is fine right now. Here's hoping he stays that way throughout the year ❤️

Glad you found where the knives were hiding. Do you still have health aids visiting? Maybe one of them did it?

Glad you found them. Sandra, I have done things like that too - with no recollection. I think I just work too fast sometimes.

Seems we are all in the same boat. I go nusts trying to find something that I KNOW I put in a certain place and it has now disappeared ... like my 2026 calendar that i put aside for next year..Where did it go???
I can't find it any where ...
To be continued..
I guess WE of a certain age just have to keep on keeping on !!

You can remember THAT and not THIS because our oldest memories are the ones that stay the longest. I love a good mystery as much as I love poetry, so thanks for this Christmas gift!! I enjoyed every word! It is always my very favorite flatware that disappears the first. And the ones that I have the least of.

You dropped the knives into the wrong slot over time, and also over time, the spoons migrated above them. As the drawer opens and closes, it shakes everything and the heavier items, like those nice, solid knives, sink.

At least, that's one possible explanation.

A mystery writer! You have found a new talent. I've had this happen except, I put my forks in the wrong drawer. Why? I guess my brain was too busy thinking about something else. lol. glad you found them.

I’m glad you found them. I am losing knives. I think I may have thrown out a couple in the trash.

Ha - I found loads of teaspoons in the old compost heap at my newly aquired allotment years ago. It must be a thing to lose cutlery with the scraps.
