How old is the oldest sheet in your home? perhaps you may call them bed linens. Is it a set? Flat or fitted? Why do you still have old sheets?
I have 2 white flat sheets from my wedding shower in 1963 and about 6 pillowcases. My dad was pastor of a small church, about 100 members. The entire church was invited to my wedding. Daddy to perform the ceremony. I had 3 different showers. Everyone came and I ended up with a dozen sets of sheets and cases, 5 shower curtains, 6 tablecloths. Back then sheets came in twin or double. As the years passed, we went to queen and then to dual king. The sheets were like new and still are.
I just can't throw out old sheets, towels, wash cloths. Or ragged throw rugs. The hall closet is full of all of this because I can use rugs to keep water from coming in the back door during Storms or in the garage to keep water out. Old towels are for dog baths
I keep the sheets, because of what if!
. Emergency Only Linens. What if I fell and was bleeding and needed to do a tourniquet?
What if I ran out of bandages and needed sheets to rip into strips to wrap the cut. daddy did that to all my cuts, he ripped old material into strips and wrapped around and around and split the end and tied in a knot. That is what we did back in the 40's and 50's.
what if the country burst into Civil War and we have no electric or washers. We can swap sheets while we beat the others clean on rocks in the creek. Alas we have no creek...or wash boards..
