Jacqueline Kane

I started Valentines Day, with my usual morning walk with my heart dog Beau. Most days we see a homeless man riding a bike to get his breakfast. He is a senior Hispanic man and always smiles a huge toothless grin and sings Hello Poochie at Beau as he slowly rides by. On this day he coasted to a stop, leaned over and patted his leg. Beau walked to him, and he stood, one leg up and the other down, bending down, standing with his head down almost to the ground, hugging and petting and making smoochie sounds. He stood back up and as he rode away, he said THANK YOU!!!! I sang Thank YOU!

60 seconds after he left, I heard the sound of a huge truck stopping beside me and turning to see who it was, there sat a HUGE Purple Pickup, 4 Wheel Drive truck with a handsome young millennial male, dark curls, huge smile, was hanging out waving at me and Yelling Happy Valentines Day. He was the picture of joy and happiness. Talking about a blessed heart, I had one.. So unexpected.

Two acts of random kindness prepared my heart to receive the news as I started the walk home, I received a text from Jackie's husband, Richard, my best friend Jackie had passed away at home at 6 AM, Feb 14, 2025.

In the past 4 years, one by one, my friends, Ann, Catherine, Carol, Madeline and Loretta from my hometown of Savannah, GA, passed away, leaving me with my BFF Jackie, living only a 4 minutes' drive away. She and her husband Richard were the Go-to If needed for us, able to enter our home and rescue Beau if needed, my text/talk/email daily, Local friend. My call or visit and vent to friend, my loved me and cared about me friend. She loved Beau and he loved her.

Goodbye my friend, I will miss you forever!

I believe that God sent the two men that Beau and I saw on our walk, to give us Random Acts of Kindness to pave the way for the news that Jackie was gone from this earth. She and her husband have done many random acts of kindness to us. The day after Hurricane Milton, Richard appeared with burgers and fry's and coffee and chicken nuggets from McDonalds and another day with a bag of ice.
I knew that if I had any need at all, they would come running.

1 hour after receiving the news, I read a post, on The Frog and the Penguinn blog that this week is Random Acts of Kindness Week, the perfect tribute to Jackie.

❤️ In 1982, magazine writer and editor Anne Herbert coined the phrase "practice random kindness and senseless acts of beauty." Random Acts of Kindness Week, started Feb 9 found on The Frog and Penguinn later in the morning.
