Lewis Park Shadow Shot Sunday

For a fee, our city allows people to place Memorials in the park.

Some chooses benches, some pick a tree that is already there or to plant a new tree.
In the past there were memorials hanging in the trees, but they are gone now.
Click HERE to see the ones hanging in the tree in 2012
My guess is the 2017 hurricane blew them all away and they were never replaced.

Lewis Park, the houses

The only house IN Lewis Park is the tiny library. I looked through and there was nothing with large print., so left them there.

I took this of my Kia just because of the shadows and trees, My hood is pointed toward the one drivable entrance/exit
And I took these houses through my windshield as  I Left.

. they are across the street
one is green the other aqua.
Aqua seems to be THE color for houses now. Bob wants to paint ours but we can't agree on a color plus I don't want him on a ladder.
We are also fighting over him wanting to get on the roof to sweep it.
ov vey!

THE tree!

I titled this THE Tree! because it is magnificent. It is so old the limbs almost touch the ground/
Lewis Park is about 10 or 12 acres of live oaks. HERE is a link to Florida Live Oaks.
Live Oaks got there name because they are always LIVE. They only lose their leaves in the spring when the new leaves push the old off and this means it is never without leaves.

The one below is in our front yard. A different type than the one at the park.
For the past month we have had a zillion tiny oak leaves in our pool.
They fly in the March winds and our neighbors have them also.

Like a Bridge Over Troubled Waters

Lewis Park is like a Bridge Over Troubled Waters, and is a good choice when
the heart needs healing.

Bridge Over Troubled Water
Simon & Garfunkel
When you're weary
Feeling small
When tears are in your eyes
I'll dry them all
I'm on your side
Oh, when times get rough
And friends just can't be found

Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down

the first two photos were with the sun to my back, these last two are looking into the sun.
Sunshine, Shadows, and Nature are natural healers.

Resurrection Ferns

The trees in Lewis Park are full of Resurrection Ferns, they only turn green when it rains.

If you want to see what it looks like after it rains, click on this OLD POST of the same thing in the trees at Emerson Point after a rain.

the ferns are not dead, when it rains, they come back to life.

Some of you may remember the Moss Rose flowers on our stump last year.
this week They resurected in this crack in the pot. I broke off all the dead ends and stuck them in the dirt and they are growing like crazy. This pot will grow again!
This is how it looks now

I Went Talking!

Tuesday, AM I took my camera with me to pick up Beaus Meds from the Vet.
Three minues drive away is Lewis Park, one of 8 city parks in our town.
Seeking Trees and Peace and Quiet and knowing there would be also be lots of blog fodder, I parked and stood looking North and South.
Big Beautiful Trees, the sound of birds, green gorgeous grass.

I slowly wandered the paths, looking, listening and feeling while walking.
I saw a lady with a Bassett Hound, she was off leash, the dog not the lady, ha ha.
I said is it ok for me to pet her? and before I got to the end of the sentence thd dog was sitting on my feet. I laughed and said, I guess I can...
She said Maggie is the Park Greeter.
and
we Talked and Talked and of course I petted and petted Maggie.
We were both starved for Stranger Talk and even more starved for Stranger Talk without Masks.

I was So starved I FOROGT to take a photo of Maggie. Butt if I had taken one, this is what you would see. Just like this one I found online. She was younger than this one.

Do you have nearby parks you can visit? would you spend 20 minutes talking to a stranger?
do you ask if you can pet the dogs?

Rosey, there were no flowers for Nature Friday, but look what I got you instead.

Good Fence Thursday

The gazebo in Lewis park is meant for a place to rest and enjoy nature views, but in the brilliant sun, I saw ART in the Shadow Play.

Some had been playing with chalk on the floor, I liked it a lot in above photo, but like the black and white even more.

THIS IS NOT A FENCE BUT....
Heh! Heh! Heh!

Lewis Park - Memorial Trees

Lewis Park has many memorial trees, some planted in memory of loved ones and some older trees that plagues have been added to. The building you see is the Manatee River Garden Club next door.

these photos are just a few of the small gifts people leave on the trees in memory of the person on the plague below the tree.

Memorial benches and plagues can be bought and added in memory of a loved one.
