Symmetry Saturday at Bray Park

Beau and I walked a new spot at Bray Park, the symmetrical trees and fence could have been better, but juggling a dog on a leash and using the cell phone was tougher than I thought.
NOTE! MadSnapper will be on hold for posting until further notice.
Beau and I will post on Fourpawsetc on days we have something to tell you,

Rentention Pond Bray park

todays photos were taken the last time we took Beau to the park.
Behind this fence at Bray Park is a retention pond.
There are three of these ponds in the park. Retention ponds are man made and up to 20 feet deep.
County regulations say all public places must have the man-made retention pond.
Our Wal-Marts have them, almost all businesses and parking lots have them.

They collect the runoff from our rains that put down 3 to 5 inches in a 20-minute period.
Because they are deep, and also may have alligators in them, they must be fenced. they are there for a purpose, to collect run off and purify it and are not intended for human use.
They also provide FISH for the Osprey!

Are you wondering how man-made ponds have fish and gators in them?
Passing birds of prey drop their catch while flying and fish roe is carried from pond to pond on the feet/fur of the wildlife as they move from pond to pond.
We have seen cranes, spoon bills, squirrels, otters, possums, raccoons, coyote etc.

Inside the red is the 144 acre Bray Park. the dark splotches are ponds with fish. the red x is the pond in my photos today.
These are within 20 seconds flight and there are many more a few seconds away.
they have trees and water and food supply.
right in the middle of our town.
At times the osprey sit on the goal posts and watch Bob's planes but have never done anything but watch. The hawks sometimes dive on the planes.
The large green space at bottom of red box is the area Bob used to fly in.

Sadly, they have fenced that field into 4 quarters and we are trying to find a way for Bob to continue to fly his radio control planes that he has flown there for the past 15 years.
The fence was required because the human animals drive cars on the field, let dogs' poop there and trash the playing fields.
There are 5 dedicated, fenced in acres that are off leash park for dogs.
All other parts are on leash only.

Behind the trees is one of our fire stations. the vehicles you see, one is wrecked, another upside down.

They use these for practice on how to remove people from vehicles that are on fire and practice cutting through to rescue trapped drivers. That large area also is home to the coast guard station and is not a part of the park.

There is no fence on the other side because the entire property of the fire dept has no public access.

Osprey

The osprey has several adaptations that suit its piscivorous lifestyle: 99% of food is fish.
They dive on live fish, lift into the air and tear it apart, feeding themselves and if they have babies they take turns feeding the fish to them.
to help lift the slippery fish from the water their talons have
reversible outer toes
nostrils that close for diving
sharp things under the toes and scales that are like barbs on the talons.
The photos today are from my archives, the first one is a collage of one osprey, 2 photos merged

The nest is in Bray Park and at the time I took the photos, the mom was in the nest, the dad on the light pole bringing her fish. Above is a collage of 3 photos?
Tomorrow, I will tell you where they get there fish and why they are in Bray park

Pickleball at Bray Park

Bob and I went to Bray park to see what all the hullabaloo is about
PICKLEBALL
Seems humans from Toddlers all the way to Seniors (Toddlers)
are doing the now trending Pickleball.
Bray has several Wow Court. The one on right middle has 18 courts in it. it was full of
Seniors having a blast.
The top left all looked like the wives of Doctors, lawyers and Indian Chiefs. You know the ones who stay home while the head of the house brings home the bacon Steak
I say wives because there was no a male on all 18 of those courts, each held 4 women in various states of perfect tennis/pickleball outfits, tanned and fit and ACTIVE

I wanted to drive the Jeep home, and told bob he could apply for the job of driving the motorcyle court sweeper. He did not find anything he wanted to drive.
he is the Old School Muscle car type. Sad to say there were none and also sad to say
neither of us are now able to do this PB thing. Wish it had been there when we moved here, 33 years ago

Victory Forest on Nature Friday

Above is the is the entrance to Victory Forest.

The Plague states.

Victory Forest
A living legacy
Honoring The Troops of
Operation Desert Storm
And all those
Who have served America
Planted and Dedicated
April 27, 1991
and a contains a list of contributors who funded the
memorial.

There are hundreds of beautiful trees, and our Dog Beau and I inspected every tree in the couple of acres forest.
We walked the forest at daybreak, and I went back at 10 AM to get photos of the trees.
This Memorial is in Bray Park. Bray has 140 acres.
We have been going there for years. the label Bray Park has 39 posts .

These are new, because we never walked behind the skateboard park and this was our first walk through it.
the Park is large enough it would take a couple of hours to cover all the trails and sidewalks.
A few more photos coming soon.

Bray Park Pickleball Pavillion

On our Sunday visit to Bray Park for Beaus Sniffing PHUN, and a walk, Bob said what is that?
I said it must be the new pickleball courts. Our friend Jackie said her daughter CC has been paying pickleball at Bray Park.
we get to the Park at 6:30 as the sun is breaking day, the lights were beautiful, but the rising sun was washing out the sky.
Quick! what did I do?  I TAPPED the Screen on the phone and
Voila! perfect night shots at sunrise
and a new header

18 pickelball court and there are two of these pavilions sitting side by side covering them, right next to the pool and a dozen tennis courts.

Ann and Ginny asked what is pickleball.
As far as I can tell, it is a combo of tennis, badminton, pingpong and
is played on a much smaller court than tennis, with a net, and a paddle.
just type in search and there is a zillion things to read
Its TRENDING right now.
Trend on, we are way to old to play it for sure.

This post is one of 14 that were created Before Mouse Shoulder forced me to take a Break.
Brian we are thankful for the park and thankful for being back in the blog saddle

Sunday Sunrise Bray Park

“Every day, a million miracles begin at sunrise.”

“A night can never defeat the sunrise.”

Sunday Morning Sunrise Selfie

Two photos of one POO (perfectly ordinary object) but with a different perspective!
Bottom photo did not show the sunrise. I stepped 10 steps to my right and there it was, hidden in the glass, seen from one perspective, hidden in the other.

I have now incorpated Yaminis word for my photos, POO, Perfectly Ordinary Objects.
I feel a new label coming on.

Sunrise at Bray Park

This is where we take Beau to walk on Sunday Morning, we get there just as the sun comes up.
Just the three of us, peaceful, quiet and very few other humans around.

As I looked around at these trees, I thought these photos look like they could be anywhere in the world.
Hop over to See Beau on his blog and the tree for Caturday Art

Strangers In The Park

Lessons from the Canine World of Dog Parks...

Joy is portable, bring it with you.
Always be joyful, never stop playing.
Run on, Run on, and you will never run alone...
Joy is not in things, it is in US..

Photos from my archives... Bray Park Dog Park, 2006..... the small dog is my friends dog Samantha, deceased last year at age 17.

Bray Bridge and Bob

TREES by Joyce Kilmer

I think that I shall never see
A poem lovely as a tree.
A tree whose hungry mouth is prest
Against the earth's sweet flowing breast;
A tree that looks at God all day,
And lifts her leafy arms to pray;
A tree that may in Summer wear
A nest of robins in her hair;
Upon whose bosom snow has lain;
Who intimately lives with rain.
Poems are made by fools like me,
But only God can make a tree.

Bray Park Walkabout with Bob... he never knows when he is stalked by my camera. The poet did not mention Squirrels, but in this park there are hundreds, maybe thousands, and  otters and birds and coyotes and racoons, possums and snake and lizards... and much more. We love them all, trees and critters.
