Good News, Bad News..

Good news: Amazon.com has opened in Florida, 30 miles from our house.

Bad News: As part of the deal to get them moved here, they had to agree with the state of FL to charge FL residents 6.9 % tax on all purchases.

Good News: They sent me an email saying I could get 10.00 off any purchase between May 1 and 7th... and click here to add to your account which I did.

Bad News: the day I got the email, I dropped the new 50 mm lens I ordered from Amazon, and when I put it on the camera it was stuck and would not come off.

Good New: I googled and found a ton of people with the same problems, seems it is a CHEAP plastic lens and it happens a LOT...

Bad News: to get it off you have to destroy it.. OR mail the camera and lens off to Canon and wait 3 weeks.
destroyed lens

Good News: there were many tutorials on how to get it off.

Bad News: Bob had to do it, I could not...and there were lots of HOT words a going on. from BOB AND ME...

Good News: It's off, the Rebel still works with the other lens.

To be continued....

Ouch. Well I guess good that the camera still works...

I just bought myself a new toy: an HP SlateBook. It's a 10" tablet that can either be used separately or docked into a keyboard. Just trying it out...

Oh my - that's not a pleasant experience at all! I had a nice Canon 100-400mm a few years back. I dropped it, camera and all one day, sent it off for repairs, but it was never right in the head after that.

Although I did chuckle when Bob got involved ;)

Amazon made the same deal when they opened a center here in Tennessee. I'm sorry to hear about the lens, but I hope there is a happy ending to the story.

I've decided that cameras are just to confusing for me. I don't have any interest in them anymore.

Good grief!!! I am thinking you were afraid that Bob would mess up the camera in the process. But the green inside of that lens is amazing. I would be taking macros of the thingies on it, and editing it for a big picture, it is like modern art in a way.

Oh...frustration!!! Don't ya' just hate cheap products. I'm wondering if you purchased your lens on a credit card that has purchase protection? Might be worth your try looking into it. Free replacement!

This story seems to have more bad news than good news. One good thing is that the camera still works.

Oh no, that poor lens and poor you. So sorry about that. One would think if a lens was expensive they could put something besides a cheap ring on it.

But then good news about Amazon! Or maybe not. The reason I like them so much is the lack of, or cheap, sales tax.

Liked the good news/bad news style post, just not the bad news about the lens...ouch.

We had the same thing happen when Amazon came to TN....

Sorry about your lens --but glad you did get it off so that you can still use your camera... I changed lenses all of the time --and am so scared about dropping one... It will happen sometime I'll bet... Dang!!! BUT--we are all just HUMAN --and I can be careless at times....

Hugs,
Betsy

I am sorry, Sandra! I know how you love your camera and your lenses and I know you use them everyday. Here is hoping everything turns out okay in the end. I am really glad you and Bob got it off finally! We would gave been saying many bad words, for sure!

Knowing how much you love your camera and getting a bad lens fitting must be very annoying. What a disappointment and loss as well. Amazon shopping is not always the best option because not all items are genuine.
Hope your are not too sad and will find a lens that fits but maybe go to a camera shop??
