Pardon My Banana Pics-Again

See the ants? this is the flower that turns into a banana and it has sweet juice on it and the ants love it.
As you can tell from the abundance of pics, I love it tooooo

If horrific means to make horrible, does terrific mean to make terrible?

"I am." is reportedly the shortest sentence in the English language.

Could it be that "I Do." is the longest sentence?

OOPS not a banana, this is a dwarf poinciana and got in the way of my camera

YES, we got bananas

Above is the view from my kitchen door, July 4th Bob yelled down the hall and said bring your camera.
I stepped out the door and he said
"We have bananas starting
look just under the yellow frond on the right"

the good news is there are two trees with pods...

July 4th, day 1

July 5th, the pod opened to reveal teeny tiny bananas

July 5, day 2
July 6, day 3 and the little nanas are formed

While trying to focus on the sweet drip hanging off the pod, I saw movement out of the corner of my eye.. and sitting in the bush staring me in the eye was a _____.

I held my breathe and eased the camera 2 inches to my left , no need to zoom or change the settings and SNAP! Snap! Snap!

Bananas July 6 - July 10

On July 6 they looked like orchids, enlarge for details

July 10th they turned from Orchids to below

And on July 10th this is a new pod starting. If you enlarge the above you can see the ants inside the flowers, the pods are dripping sweet juice off onto the leaves below and the ants are having a party.

this has been in my drafts for 3 weeks, and alas!!! the pod dropped all the flowers and the 5 new bananas are dying. that is OK.... there is always NEXT year.

See How They Grow - Part 2

We have 4 other banana trees beside the one Bob cut down. On July 2nd Bob came in to get me and said look UP and way up high was the POD you see on the right in the collage above.
I shrieked "We Got More Bananas" we watched and on July 6, just 4 days later, I was Shrieking and Snapping! OH MY   (note: the tree only bears fruit once, the stump you saw yesterday is dead and gone) but other little trees will come up around it.
The above photo shows how high the new hand of bananas is, about 10 or 12 feet in the air. Below are the

A-Mazing! A-Mazing! little new bananas on July 6th. The sun was perfect, shining a beam right on the pod.

I have been documenting the growth of bananas since 2009, there is a label on the side bar called Banana Tree.

See How They Grow - part 1

May 1st of this year I posted Yes We Got Bananas, June 24th I posted Mayday, Banana Down, Debbie the tropical storm took down the tree. Three times I had promised over the past 2 years NO MORE BANANA  POST.... Surprise!

I want to show you how bananas grow (trust me there is a reason) Above you can see the bananas at the top and the pod at the bottom. Each of the little lips you see on the stalk, should have been another hand of bananas.  The cool temps of 52 on one night made them start dropping so only 15 bananas.

the pod hangs at the end and each day one or two of the leaves open wide and up under it are little yellow flowers that turn into bananas each day.

Above is what they look like as they turn from flowers to bananas. Below is the pile of them dropping each day.

Bob chopped the tree down almost to the ground, leaving these beautiful stumps.

When the tree fell we hung the pod on one side of the swing and the 2 hands of bananas on the other side, one to ripen the other to see what it would do.
to be continued.....
