Kissed by the Red Admiral

Today's date is 2/16/2015. For the past 3 days I have stood in wonder waiting for the kiss of the Red Admiral. Each day at 3 he comes and sits on me and I hold my breath to keep him there. I found this is the 4 year in this month and at 3 pm that they come to sit on me.

The story is the same today as it was for 4 years 4 posts.

I have been kissed by the Red Admirals 4 years in a row.

I will be taking a couple of days off to work on my To Do List.

Every day for the past 5 days, this Red Admiral butterfly comes to the same place. He sits on the lip to the pool, the rod the towel hangs on and the towel itself.

These butterflies are territorial and the male often returns to the same place over and over. We were amazed the first time he swooped down and sat on my arm for about 10 seconds. He lifted off and sat in Bob's hair, back to my arm, this time for about 30 seconds. I googled and this Red Admiral is known to be friendly to visitors in gardens. whooo hoooo what JOY and PHUN

the next day, I stood very still and he came and sat on my arm until I could no longer hold it still. I made a small move and he flew to Bob and sat in his hair, several times as we oohed and ahhed. He comes at 3 and 5 like clockwork. no photos of him sitting on us, but I did get him on the towel.

His little feet feel funny, like he is dancing on my arm. Beyond Way Cool. and Guess What???
there will be MORE, he has two females and we have been watching them DANCE.... Soon we will have Catepillars... did I say whooo whooo?

On Day 3 he actually sat on Bob's Nose......

Random Ramlings

 Not this Red Admiral butterfly, but one just like it, thrilled me to the tips of my toes two days in a row this week. The Red Admiral is territorial and returns to the same spot at the same time day after day, that is how I got these photos a couple of years ago.

 Every day at 3 pm, Bob throws the ball for Jake and I stand and watch. the first day, the Red Admiral came and sat on my shoulder, then moved to my fore arm, it tickles a lot. He stayed until I could not hold still. The next day, Bob said stand in the same spot, I did and there he came and there he sat, he sat on my shoulder, my arm and my chest. I held my hand out palm up and HE SAT ON IT and Thrilled does not describe how I felt. He flew to my hair and I turned and watched him in the door reflection. Since he appeared to have taken permanent residence in my hair, I carefully put my finger under him and he climbed on and let me pull him from my hair. ALAS! no photos. but it DID happen

 I found this heart hanging in a vase of flowers on the desk at the rehab home.

Sandra's Flutterby's

Our yard has many purple and red flowers and is a natural draw for butterfly's. I love to sit in the swing and watch them dance and flutter. sometimes they entertain us by dancing together over the pool. No photo of that, they move to fast for my focus.  today's photo's are from last summer.

the two photos above are the same butterfly, it is a Red Admiral and is territorial. they come to the same spot every day, rest on the same bush at night. Sits on the lip of the pool every afternoon between 3 and 5 and has been known to sit on Baby's back, Bob's back and my shoulder. There are two of them now, but no photo yet.

Spicebush Swallowtail above and below. Notice how it blends in with the plants and is very hard to see if I don't see it light there.

One night bob was in the yard with the dogs and he called me out and said watch this. The butterfly below would circle and land on the same bush. Circle and land on the same bush. I goolged and found they like to sleep in the same area, they roost at night. Who Knew?

I sneaked out in the dark and this is what i got. Wondrous to me!

Isn't he just beautiful in the dark and he did not mind the flashes as I clicked away.

If you look at the first 3 purple flowers on the side bar, it is different views of our purple passion vine. The passion flower is a butterfly magnet. They do the same things a bee does, move the pollen from plant to plant according to God's plan.

I saved my favorite for last, it is a White Peacock Buterfly. How Cool Is This?

He sat on my pink plastic chair by the pool and let me click away.

I think he might be an escapee from the Flutterby Gardens a few blocks away. I was glad he came to visit and I only saw him once and that was July of 2007. the other butterflies are common and can always be found in the hot summer time.
