Fishtail Palm - Back yard

Each day, we are in our back yard 5 to 7 times a day, each day I search for the sun paintings on the plants, none are ever the same... I have been posting pics of this palm since the first month in 09 when I started my blog. August 09 was first post. and my favorite post on the Fishtail is HERE July 2014

Caryota - Fish Tail Palm

If you were wondering what this is, it is one strand I pulled off of the pod below that our
Caryota or Fish Tail Palm has on it right now...

Previous Post on Fish Tail  scroll past today.

Below shows shows all the stages of the pods
The odd thing is, the squirrels love all the palm found berries but never touch these, neither do any of the other critters. The pods just go through the stages and fall off on the ground.

Fish Tail Tale part 2

I asked Bob to reach up and pick this one for me, he did and ended up covered in a shower of yellow pollen, his hair was yellow with it... Anything to keep MadSnapper happy..

MadSnapper pondering:

Why do bath rugs move from their designated spot when we walk on them, turn all si-godling,  but when I try to move it with my foot to straighten it, it appears to be glued in place

Grocery items in the same cabinet, stored in the same spot, are now out of my reach. As little as 2 years ago, I could reach them, now I must find the grabber thingy or yell loudly for hubby who can no longer hear me…who knows what I will do when Bob can no longer reach said shelf...

and how will I get the pod thingy picked from way up in the tree?

the label below this post has 6 post on this tree.

Fish Tail Palm Tale

4 stages of the pod in this pic
our 30 foot Fish Tail Palm is covered in the pods in all of the 6 stages from tiny ball to brown and on the ground.

Early AM we were headed for the back yard, just out of bed, staggering like the old people we are.

Jake ran circles while Bob and I and Baby stumped along, stiff as boards from lying still all night.

Bob said:  Jake you are the only one of us that can run when we get out of bed....
We had our first laugh of the day at 4 AM

(Jake is only 56, Bob is 76, MadSnapper is 68 and Baby is the senior at 84.)

When Bob and I got out of the pool, Jake was no where to be found, I said Jake come get your cookie.. nothing... Bob bellowed Jakey Jake in his alpha male voice, and Jake came running.

I said:  Evidently a cookie in the kitchen is not as good as a rat in the bush... (2nd laugh of the day)

3 hours later I followed Baby to the side yard and there lay the answer to why Jake did not come for the word Cookie.... a dead possum....
this means a cookie in the kitchen is not as good as hunting possum
3rd laugh of the day.

Accidental Jungle-Re-post 1 March 09

Riddle: What kind of tree grows in your hand? Answer: A Palm tree
NOT THIS ONE!!!!

Photos are from our Fish Tail Palm.

fronds of Fish Tail Pond
Qute by accident we created a jungle on our 100 x100 lot in the city limits. We don't have a lot of land, since the house and the 40 foot pool cover most of it.

We did not like the neighbor watching us in our pool, so added privacy fence, which looked plain. Plant by plant, we stuck them here and there. At the nursery we asked for trees that would grow to 20 feet, to hide the 2 story house behind us from view. (their bedroom window looked directly in our kitchen door.

seed pods of  Fish Tail Pond
Either the nursery salesman lied or did not know that the trees would grow to 50 feet and spread.

Now We Know. they are taller than the power lines, which is a problem.

But The tree has provided many photo shoots for me

It goes from strings of green to bright pink acorn shaped balls, the color is magnificent.

The pod is like a Christmas decoration, placed their byGod for me to enjoy.

Then a couple of days later I noticed the color had changed completely

When I got close to it, each little pink pod had opened and a small yellow flower popped out.

Then it drys up and falls off. It is every bit as beautiful in detail when dead.

I found this one on the ground and it looks like music to me, it flows with beauty.

The next two pictures are of a piece I pulled off before it died. If you click you can see the yellow pollen and little flowers. Yes I sneezed my head off when I plucked it from the tree.
