First let me tell you the Florida Fireplace is up and running....we are COLD not freezing but Cold.

This AM early, while lighting the candles fireplace, I realized this candle holder in the next photo was MIA.

Bob: what are you look for?

Sandra: the little crystal candle holder that NEVER leaves the kitchen.

Bob: try the drawers

Sandra; I did, checked all the drawers, will you climb up on the little ladder and check the top cabinet.,

Bob: nope not there

Two people looking for more than 20 minutes.. no where to be found. I worked up a sweat, really I did.. got a tad huffy......(you should be a fly on the wall)

Bob: Did you maybe use it for rings or things? (another story there)

Sandra; YES... YES... it is in the bathroom holding my three watches, it was the only thing that fit the hole in the organizer (OCD involved-yet another story)

...But wait,., there is more.

3 hours later, while getting dressed, I go to get the watch out that I wanted to wear and it is MIA... really, I can't find it....
Can you guess where it was???? Can you??????????

            P.S. Bob had to climb the ladder to get another candle holder..
Question is... why can he climb the ladder and he is 8 years older????

Phun Phriday Florida Fireplace

You have admired our Florida Fall Color, now you can see my Florida Fireplace.

The past few days have been in mid forties causing me to light my fireplace. (actually Betsy Talking about her fireplace caused me to light mine.)

I can warm my hands and warm up the living room (trust me it works, it brought the living room up 2 degrees in 15 minutes)

I can sit and watch the twinkle of the firelight. (no mess, no clean up! I do not have to take out the ashes OR clean the hearth)

can you picture me with a tiny miniature marshmallow on the tip of the ice pick? It will work, I know it will, I would have tried it but do not have the marshmallows.

My fireplaces sure make the living room cozy. (I have more than one, actually I had FIVE FIREPLACES going this morning.)

YES, I do have one string of lights in my nook, they help with the cozy part.

All of you  fireplace owners that require LOGS and the CHOPPING of said logs, aren't you just a little jealous that all I have to do is purchase candles?

                                            NO, I have NOT tried roasting chestnuts! YET!

I Love Candles

Thousands of candles can be lit from a single candle, and the life of the candle will not be shortened. Happiness never decreases by being shared.

Candle manufacturers' surveys show that 96% of all candles purchased are bought by women

I have had been fascinated with fire all my life, bonfires, fireplace and yes, I played with matches and still do.  In Florida we have a very short candle burning season  because when it is hot and humid they do not appeal to me.

Candles have been around FOREVER. Like the early Egyptians, the Roman's relied on tallow, gathered from cattle or sheep suet, as the principal ingredient of candles. It was not until the Middle Ages when beeswax, a substance secreted by honey bees to make their honeycombs, was introduced. Beeswax candles burned pure and clean. However, they were expensive, and, therefore, only the wealthy could afford them.

Colonial women offered America's first contribution to candlemaking when they discovered that boiling the grayish green berries of bayberry bushes produced a sweet-smelling wax that burned clean

The growth of the whaling industry in the late 18th century brought the first major change in candlemaking since the Middle Ages, when spermaceti, a wax obtained by crystallizing sperm whale oil,

1850 with the production of paraffin wax made from oil and coal shales. Processed by distilling the residues left after crude petroleum was refined, the bluish-white wax was found to burn cleanly, and with no unpleasant odor. Of greatest significance was its cost - paraffin wax was more economical to produce than any preceding candle fuel developed

With the introduction of the light bulb in 1879, candlemaking declined until the turn of the century when a renewed popularity for candles emerged. No longer man's major source of light, candles continue to grow in popularity and use. Today, candles symbolize celebration and romance.


And then there are those of us who love FIRE.... I can sit and stare at flickering candle light or any other source of flickering fire for hours.  Let me know how you feel about candles and fire.
