I missed you guys yesterday. I took the day off because of this.

My laptop and Samsung Tablet chose to bite the dust at the same time, I bought them at the same time, 6 years ago. As they staggered along I looked at Chromebooks, that were a combo of laptop and tablet, either or.... I had the above Acer Spin 311 in my Amazon Wish list for a month.

The morning of June 21, email came with FLASH SALE, only for 48 hours.

I was off yesterday, reading the 32 page manual and learning my way around it. It was 5 minute set up, but I always want to KNOW what it does.

I spent 1 hour removing the hard drive from my Asus Laptop.

see below and use your imagination... I had to look up a hard drive image to figure out what to remove.

this is the mess I made.

I removed 23 screws, TINY screws needing a Tiny screw driver and

PATIENCE.. HA

I was shocked, I say I WAS SHOCKED to see all this STUFF inside

to Dongle or not to Dongle

 

During the Search of Incredible-Asus AIO (all in one), I braved the fear of virus,  and behind my mask entered the Best Buy Store to get drop off the Electronic Recycle Items found while cleaning the front bedroom.

While there, I wandered the computer section, I was the only one in that section and that is how I found what the nano- bezel edge and fell in love. I added that to my list of must have.

If I had not deep cleaned and tossed the front bedroom, I would have no AIO or Bezel screen..

The young salesman said, pointing to a laptop,  I bought one of these for my mom for Christmas. The only thing is it has no dvd/cd in it. If you need one You can buy a dongle, they aren't very expensive.

I did NOT show my ignorance and ask what a dongle was because I was not buying the laptop and also did not want him to think I did not know what he meant. 

Think 76 year old trying to impress 25 year old.

I hurried home and checked with Google Girl

A dongle is a small piece of computer hardware that connects to a port on another device to provide with additional functionality.

When the Asus appeared with no DVD/Cd player in it, I was not surprised. Seems most computers don't use that now, every thing is download..

I don't need one, was my first thought. But then I don't want to pay 79.99 a year for use of Word and Excel.

I had the DVD with Word from 2010, plus my DVD of Photoshop and also 100 CD's of photos from The Past.

She Almost Broke The Bank

 

My new Girl ASUS almost broke the bank! But I love her  

She is faster than a speeding bullet
She Boots up in 20 seconds

I can touch her screen, I can Mouse her, I can TALK to her

I know she is a SHE because the voice of Cortana is a woman

Her keyboard is narrow, flat and FAST

Cortana talked me through set up and when she was ready, I could see all my files on all my devices.

Everything that was on my laptop is now available on my Girl.

I did not have to add my printer, since it is HP Envy wireless, it just magically appeared.

No adding emails or contacts or trying to hook up with my web mail.

SHE and Cortana did it for me.

She came only with EDGE browser but she let me add Chrome and download PhotoscapeX

She LOVES Lunapic and PicMonkey, my other did not.

Wonder of wonders, Asus auto registered my warranty and downloaded a box that says MY ASUS and that is where you go for help and support.

IN Plain words, this big screen girl is just like my Smartphone only MUCH Bigger!

A word of warning if you go on a computer hunt and are not buying a MAC.

Now there are FOUR Windows 10

Windows 10, Windows 10 Pro, Windows 10 Home, Windows 10 S

Finding everything I wanted was so hard because of this. I would find the perfect one and it would have Windows S

I did NOT want the S or the Pro.....and Win S is the cheapest,

Windows S  comes with only one Browser, EDGE and you can NOT add Chrome or Firefox or any browsers PLUS you are only allowed to get Apps from MICROSOFT. It will not let you use any others.

They have locked it into you have to use 100 percent Microsoft,

 Just like when you buy a MAC you have to use APPLE.

I chose Windows HOME the old and familiar we all know and hate. OOPS! didIsay that

PS, all my passwords still worked but when I logged in on the computer and then on FB and Amazon and all the others I was bombarded with a dozen emails 

from Google, screaming Alert! Someone logged in on a new device!

7 Days SEVEN days!

 I posted 7 days ago the fact my beloved Desktop computer Died. I have had a desktop computer since 1997, actually 4 desktop computers since then. 

I injured my back, sitting at the laptop for hours of each of the 7 days since then. 

Do I want a new laptop? Do I want a Desktop, I gave myself headaches, weight the pros and cons of each and what brand and of course the best bang for the buck... 

There is no bang for the buck, they all cost big bucks because I wanted everything but did not want to pay 1200.00.

• Windows 10  
• 12 gigs ram  - I got 8
• 1 T storage - I got 256
• 24 inch screen on desk 15 laptop both must have nano bezel edge (this means no edge at all)
• processor 5 and up - got the 5 but not i5 it is AMD Rizen 5
• Solid State Drive
• Bluetooth 
• Wireless and Ethernet 

On the 7th day, I pushed the add to cart on Best Buy, clicked pick up in one hour at store, pushed pay pal, received and email that said, your order will be ready for pickup in one hour. Wait for email with instructions on how to pick it up curbside.

Exactly 40 minutes later, email came, I drove the less that 2 miles to Best Buy, parked in #1 curbside, opened email on phone, tapped the link that said let us know you are here, gave color and type of car and number I was parked in front of, and the guy came out and sat it in the back of the SUV and I was home.

I paid 700.00 and to get all of the above was 1000 to 1200. I refuse to pay that for a TOY

I tried to find humor in this but could not. I leave you with this.

What is a computers favorite animal?  A RAM           I got me a A SUS!

The Dilemma

 

The Dilemma of Desktop VS. Laptop! 

As of today, I have bought nothing.

I can't make up my mind which I want.

For Now this horrid set up is what I am doing.

 Laptop with 'wired' keyboard, 'wired' mouse

connected to 10 year old Samsung 22 inch monitor, that I have loved  for 10 years.

I can SEE it! the monitor I mean..

The Laptop is 4 and 6 months, the battery is not holding well, and who knew I could buy one that did not have a battery I could replace.

It can be replaced, just not by ME.

This is working OK and I can release it from THREE wires and take it to my rocking chair.

It really offends my OCD self looking at this although it works well.

I keep thinking I am on my desktop and trying to find all the STUFF that was stored on it.

there is nothing stored on the lap top. I have it saved on external hard drives.

I am in The Process. You will be the first to know when/if/what I buy.

 the ugly wired mess on the ugly 1997 vintage pasteboard looks better in low lamp light.

Feel free to tell me what you use, give opinions, say what you think.

I also ponder what I am pondering while our world is falling apart in chaos from pandemic and politics.

Days Off from blogging 2

 

The reason I had to go into toss it all out mode, is all the Covid-19 storage space.

My closets have always had empty spaces. 

Now there are cleaning supplies and TP.

Bottom shelf contains 17 photo albums. No one has looked at them in 20 years.

Wedding Pics of my first wedding. Album of all the cards and list of gifts.

1963!

We were divorced in 1980, he died in 2006, our sons do not want them.

Will I toss them?

I compromised, took 12 8x10 Wedding Photos put in envelope to save.

Through both albums in trash with all the STUFF.

Did you know old photos kinda sorta stink?

4 albums full of photos of birds and flowers, and beaches and trees, that I took on vacations with film and prints.

TOSSED! album and all.

I gave up on the rest to save for another day.

Day 2 ended with 2 closets and the cabinet below decluttered and organized.

I had so much to dump, I rolled the big Green Trash Bin right up on the front porch. 

All i had to do was open the door and toss.

I Learned a LOT.

CD/DVD can't go in the recycle, I had 2 drawers full that I tossed.

I learned that last month I broke the law by throwing an old DVD player in the green trash can.

Who knew it is illegal in Florida to throw any type of electronics in the trash. they must be taken to an E-recycle plant. 

I had 87 million cords. I had no clue what they went to or what they were for. A box full. Some I had marked and I found one that went to the HP I bought it 1997.

I have hoarded that large box of cables and cords because I was afraid I would need them but how would I know I needed it It I Don't Know What It is For?

the bed is piled with cords and computers and things I don't know what they go to.

Now I have to find a place to take them.

I forgot to mention we had WWIII, when I asked Bob to remove the hard drive from the computer and smash it.

Who Knew how difficult that could be.

First I watched a you tube video on how to identify the hard drive and how to remove it.

I pointed it out to someonewhohasnocluebutknowseverythingbetter and said just remove those 3 screws, slide it forward and lift it out.

Note! I stole that long word from Easy blog...

Cover your ears! 2 screws came out, one could not be reached!

I will skip the he said/she said War.

I kindly said, don't you think you could work better on your work bench?

The words again!

The next thing  I hear is a pounding sound from the back yard. I go to see what he is doing and he is using a

 HATCHET!

Not the hammer side, but the sharp ,will cut your hand off kind.

The kind that was throwing steel shards into the air close to the eyes that were not covered.

Ear Burning Words were spewing with each shop!

I am sure the neighbors ears are totally burned.

He could not smash it but the video said if it is bent in 3 places that is good enough.

I begged him to stop before I had to call 911.

For Your Protection!

It is illegal in Florida and most states to put Electronics in your trash bins or to burn them.

I HAD NO IDEA

We have placed TV, Microwaves, Computer Monitors at the curb.

They disapear because people stop and take them.

and microwave ovens.

 DVD players, routers, chargers, insulated cables and wires...

they do not pick up E trash, we must find a place to take it.

But wait, there May be More...

Avoid Housework at all cost

 I will do anything to avoid housework. 

While watching Ann of SnapEditScrap tutorial on how to make a fall craft, I saw the words, Had a hard time getting the cell phone to stand up.

I did NOT get up when done viewing and attack the house work.

 I emailed Ann not one but 3 times including links to YouTube videos on HOW To DIY standing up your phone. ( just in case she did not know how to search for them)

I spent an hour watching YOUTUBE videos on DIY cellphone holders. I tried the easiest one first. (see above photo)

I even made a video using the phone in cup idea. DELETED IT QUICKLY my voice sounded funny and made another one.

Should have deleted it!

moved on to Prop up the phone using my Laptop....should have deleted it also.

What is wrong with my voice??? To be continued.............

Standing Station

My shoulder pain is gone

I am able to blog on.

 Switcharoo is what I do,

To keep my daily visits to all of YOU.

Switcharoo defined.

I switch from cell phone, tablet, desktop, laptop.

I switch from platform rocker, sofa, easy chair, two desk chairs.

Before, I sat in the rocker, with laptop on lap for HOURS at a time.

I sat at the desk top for HOURS at a time.

 Now the new me, switches from  standing, sitting and sitting in different places.

Before I had hand/shoulder pain and headaches every day.

No pain, No headaches. I had no idea the damage I was doing. 

I found I need to keep what ever I am using at eye height.

At first when I changed to the phone, I woke up with neck ache.

Looking down is not good....

I gave up edits in software, and found if I take photos with phone, i can do a 30 second collage, like the one yesterday post,  on the phone. I can either talk to phone or do what I am doing now. I am adding words via laptop in lap but only one post at a time.

The phone is much faster to comment, it types as fast as I talk, the tablet is much slower because it is OLD, not as old as ME but in Device Land it is a senior.

Sitting Rocker Station, the box brings phone/tablet up to eye level when I sit it in my lap..

Below is my retired phone and I can take photos like this and still upload on blogger mobile from the new phone.  DON'T fret, I am going to do much shorter posts and I hope to get my humor back since the pain is gone

 the whole thing started when I decided I wanted a new mouse pad, a cheap one to cut in half and use on my laptop.

 I am still suffering shoulder/hand pain and noticed it gets worse if my hand is out to the side. If I sit correctly, with hands in the right position, it doesn't hurt as bad.

I had no idea mouse pads are no longer IN, and most people do not use a mouse.  Wal-Mart had none. BUT, while meandering through looking for one, I saw a tiny mouse. I picked it up and thought, put it down and go home. I left without it.

While sitting in rocker, holding laptop in LAP, regaling Bob with tales of tiny mice, he said why didn't you buy it?

I DON"T KNOW! I said.......

 Just moments later, my hands lifted from the keys and somehow Amazon was sending me this adorable MOUSE, Now named Minie Mouse, and she is only 2 INCHES long, that is 50 mm to a lot of you.

Minnie is rechargeable and fast as greased lightning, she is self adjusting, goes to sleep if I leave her alone for a while. She has some kind of special laser, and the cursor slides so quickly and accurately it is shocking...
while I was in the shopping coma, it seems I found a mouse pad that is slick as ice, it is a hard shiny shell. It also saves on batteries, but since Minnie is rechargeable who cares?

Today I have half a mouse pad, that covers the touch pad that I don't want to touch and I can sit properly with my hands in the correct position.

I liked the mouse pad so much, some how a second one showed up at the door last night and is now sitting by my desk top.

Picture This! The Government forced us to turn our clocks back one hour, even though the state of Florida voted to NOT change the time. The Federal Govt. Told Our Governor It is Against the law to STAY on Daylight Savings Time. Federal Law.

Doesn't matter what we voted on.

A. I did not know about that Law

B. I did not know I voted to stay on DST, because I thought I was voting to NOT change.

C. We did change and at 2:30 AM on Sunday Morning, my eyes popped open at my usual time and there I was, Me and the Big Dog thinking it was potty time and nothing to do in the dark.

(for those of you thinking I am crazy, I can't help it that we are early morning people and habitual in our sleeping habits)

With Coffee in hand, I hid in the bedroom trying to NOT hear the TV blasting in the living room, because the other half was also UP.

(have you ever heard early morning CNN on full blast)

My brain works at Maximum capacity early in the AM.

Thus I made the decision to tackle NEW PIC-MONKEY... and because they chose to make it work only on Androids of their choice, including all  Apple phones and Ipads 

and NOT on my Desk top, and Not on my Samsung Tablet, which is what I prefer, I had to use the laptop, which made me cranky because I prefer the Desk top.

Never-mind if i had a NEW desk top it would work fine.

I really love the new PicMonkey but the thing is, I need a new device that works well with it. NEED! I say NEED! a new device.

I am upset with the government 😁😁, the idiots who wrote the info on the ballot so we don't know what we are voting on, also upset with the  developers at PicMonkey who think everyone in the world can afford Apple Products....or NEW Desktop

UPDATE: I am adding a thank you to Yamini for telling me in yesterdays post, that covering the touchpad on my laptop would stop all the crazy stuff my laptop keyboard does.... it works. I am typing now with an index card taped over the touch pad. it is that or hold my hands up. to old to do that...  I just typed this without looking at my screen. I am so thankful I took Typing 1 and 2 in high school in early 60's.

I had several jobs that required typing in computer screens, but never had one using a typewriter.

For that I was thankful, no changing ribbons or need for white out and throwing that carriage back and forth.

Have you used any of these? What jobs have you needed typing skills?

My dad typed his sermons on one just like this, and he did it with his two pointer fingers. And lots of white out.  he typed so hard his sermons had holes in them.

I AM WIRED

I am wondering if any of you prefer your keyboard that goes to a desk top over the keyboard that is on a laptop. I love the convenience  of my laptop but typing on the keyboard makes me crazy. for some reason it jumps and hops and opens things I don't want open.

a couple of weeks ago, I got so aggravated with it, I took out the wired keyboard that came with my desk top, which is 9 years old. I prefer wireless keyboards and this one has been in the box it came in and never opened.
I sat laptop on table, put the keyboard usb in and wow, what a difference. I sat the box it came in on my lap and I can type as fast as I did in high school on a typewriter.  Totally different experience.

How Do You View

I want to change the look and feel of my blog but if I do, all the 3024 post will change and not look like they did when i created them. I created around the black theme. That  will change the look.
I considered starting a new blog with a new look. But then there is the change over of followers.

I played with colors and other things and when I noticed the two views in dashboard above, one is desktop the other mobile. I have seen it all the years I have blogged but have never looked at my blog on my phone.

I viewed all devices and found the mobile was very hard to read. Poking around I discovered I could leave my blog like it is and make the phone custom by clickon the little wheel under the mobile view and now my phone view has a white background for easier viewing.

I also found that on phones, the tabs do not show, the side bar doesn't show which means all the work is useless if most people view on phones. Below, see the tabs? and you can see the side bar with links to my other blogs. This view shows on all devices except the phone. I have wondered often why no one looks at the pages, and now I think I know why. Pages were created back before Mobiles.

Do you read blogs on Phone, Tablet, Laptop or Desk Top? I sat here working on my blog, and decided to lay tablet and phone beside desk top, which is what I prefer when creating a post.  Let me know if you are viewing this on phone if it is easier to read please.

Windows 10 UPDATE

IF YOU GOT the new Windows 10 Update in the past 2 weeks, a very long one, you have new STUFF that everyone was fussing about, there was a reason. BIG changes were downloading.
APPLE USERS take the day off.
I'm NOW TALKING this post  to you via my laptop sitting in my rocking chair. I am in a new post and all I do is talk and this thing is just typing typing typing as I talk. 
to Talk Type hit Windows icon on keyboard and H and the microphone comes up, tap it and talk and it will type what you say...hit Windows icon on keyboard then  the period and up comes 💖😍

This can be done in email, word, all places you can type. and GUESS What Else? if you right click on the sentence or word, the computer will read aloud to you. you have a choice of 2 male 1 female voice. As I type this I right clicked and it read everything on the page,  

HE said... Madsnapper Post, posting as Sandra and proceeded to read the whole post to me. SCARY????? It does it on desk and laptop.  

GOT IT? Windows 10 now talks to type. Windows H brings up microphone, tap it with mouse or finger and start talking 

Adds emojis . Windows .  that's a Period  ✔

Reads aloud what is on screen by right click. this works on all screens.

 Wow, Voice and Face.. Tap Tap Tap and  I called son Daniel... he answered and I could see this face and he could see mine. Hi Mom! he says... I can't talk, I am AT WORK??? it totally  slipped my senior mind that I am retired and he is not.

Then I called my daughter in law on her phone because son David has no phone and she did not answer because she had no idea what was ringing.
I tried again and she answered  and up popped her face and she quickly tapped video as I explained what we were doing.
Hi did you know we can talk to each other and see at the same time? they do NOW.. we even fit  both their faces on their phone screen together.
Then two days later they called me from their tablet and my tablet made this HORRIBLE loud noise and Bob yells something is wrong your gadget in here...it's screeching..

And Then..... I decided to call my friend Carole in WI.. she answered and we were talking and decided to see if we could video chat 3 way with her grand daughter. We could talk 3 ways but only see two of us... for many minutes we poked and prodded and laughed and called back and forth.

I did NOT know this Fact.. the PHONE was on in the kitchen, and I was in the bedroom on the tablet and each time we tried something it was screeching and ringing and squawking the phone which was only 15 feet from The Male Watching Football. Bob is yelling down the hall WHAT ARE YOU DOING.?  ... who knew that if you have 3 gadgets ON they will all ring and carry on.
If only I could afford an Ifone for both sons and my friends we could do the easy peasy FaceTime. Donations anyone?

I Say SHE hears...

I spend a lot of time 'talking' to my Tablet and to my Laptop. It is so easy to do. I wrote this poem

I have forgotten how to write,

Almost forgotten how to type

I might even forget how to walk

because now I sit and talk...and talk..

If you receive odd words on Facebook or in the comments I make on your blog, it is most likely I was talking to the tablet and Google Girl could not understand my Southern Accent.

I get a lot of giggles out of what I say and she hears..

In a comment I said blasting down the highway and she typed blessing down the highway. Sometimes I catch it and sometimes I don't..
My son posted photos of his elephant ears on Facebook..
I said.. all mine died and I love elephant ears.
Google girl typed.. mom and dad died and I love elephant ears.

My Laptop Died..

My six year old HP laptop has a deceased Motherboard. The Repair Guy Said Toss it.. I did. After setting up the new Asus Notebook, I sat thinking.... ...............................

Suddenly I realized I had played with every thing but THE WebCam....

I turned it on.

I don't  hate Windows 10 as much as I did..... I do understand it better after FIVE hours of MESSING with it...

Windows 10 and Photoshop

 Jake's expressions perfectly express how I feel about  Microsoft and their new Windows 10.

I am unable to install Photoshop with Windows 10 download... It just will not take it. I have used Photoshop 7 since 08 and when my friend Rich died I inherited his CS4 and CS5 and they were working great in Windows 7. NOT NOW...
I have worked myself into a snit reading forums on how to get around the fact that Microsoft saw fit to create Win 10 and not make it compatible. If anyone has found a work around please let me know.

I have PS Elements on laptop and it works because it was on there when i did the download, but if I remove it I can't put it back. that is what happened to the desk top.  arrhhhh

It also has caused mega problems with windows live email and that is why i changed to gmail...
