Coffee Bar is OPEN

Once upon a time  Manny Mosquito sat staring down in what he thought was and empty coffee cup, he dove in and found himself in yummy, milky and sweet sticky stuff...

while guzzling his morning coffee, along came the lady of the house  and the next thing he knew a huge tsunami of brown coffee poured on top of him filling the cup to the top...

He floated to the top and the last thing he heard before he went across the mosquito rainbow bridge was a loud Shrill SHRIEK.....

" There's a MOSQUITO in  my coffee"
the reply came
"is it dead? then dip it out and drink the coffee, it's just a mosquito"

this is a True Story with names removed to  protect the innocent and a disclaimer that this is a dramatization with the help of Photo Shop
The MadSnapper forgot to take a photo..... Woe is Me...

would you drink the coffee or pour it out?
I poured it down the drain...

For Love of Cowboy's

Tim Holt 1949

Our cable menu includes Encore Western's. Friday early AM,  I found Stagecoach Kid, starring Tim Holt and his side kick Richard Martin.  The film was made in 1949. I was 5 years old. As far back as my memory goes, I have loved all things cowboy...

My Dad's favorite cowboy was Tim Holt, in the 40's he was addicted to movies and especially Westerns. I tripped down memory lane today and watched this movie.

When TV came along, Daddy loved Bonanza and Raw Hide and Gun-smoke, so did I...

Stagecoach had adobe homes, horses, fighting cowboys and inside the house I could admire old lamps and rockers and tables...

I watched this movie and tried to see it through my dad's eyes as he would have seen the wonders of the big screen in the 1940's...

and I do so wish he could have had Encore Westerns on his TV and he could have watched them 24/7....

and the scandalous of it all back then was this  girl in boys clothes, painted ladies, bad men and good men.  Good versus Evil and Good always Won.

this is the girl that was dressed as a boy after she transformed from teen boy to girl just in time to snag Tim as her husband....I LOVED IT....

Side Yard Sunrise

Still taking shots at the sunrise in the gap left by our tree..... taken at 7:18 on Friday the 26th. I may have to buy a swing to put out there for swinging and watching.

Above and below taken on Thursday at the same time, see the difference in the sky?  since the sky was not gorgeous, I zoomed on the palm. I love Palms

Doritos DO Burn....

Do Not do this indoors..be safe out there

The photos did not come out as good as I hoped, but I can vouch for the fact, Doritos do make great kindling.... they catch easily and burn steady....

After I loaded these in the computer, I wanted to try again for better photos, BUT someone ATE the rest of the 42 cent bag I bought... It wasn't Bob, It wasn't Baby and it wasn't Jake... so who was it?
If you think I am crazy just check out the Doritos Facebook page...

Watch this commercial that is my current favorite.. can you guess WHY?

Caution! Details Matter

I spent many hours looking for just the right cup for my coffee. See that Post HERE

For some reason a couple of weeks ago, I picked up my powdered creamer and READ THE DETAILS
It said 1 teaspoon 10 calories.
that doesn't sound like much, but I LOVE my coffee WHITE, and for years I have picked up this little jelly jar and dumped a pile of it in each cup.. I measured what I dumped and it was almost a tablespoon.

I drink 3 cups every day and sometime 4 if Bob doesn't drink his 3rd cup.... my calculations told me I was adding about 120 to 130 calories per day to my caloric intake.. YOWSA! now I have the little 1/2 tsp in the jar and measure 10 calories per cup, and hope to ween myself to 1/2 tsp per cup. SOMEDAY

 Details do matter.......

Sunshine and Silk

Each morning the sun pours in the kitchen window illuminating my silk flowers on the kitchen table.  Sun can make even fake flowers beautiful.

Meanwhile, out in the yard today, there were 48 more blooms on the Night blooming cactus, the below photo if of one that bloomed yesterday and one that will bloom tonight.

Stuff you MIGHT want to KNOW

Nagging cough keeping you awake at night? Just rub Vicks Vapor Rub on your throat, I cover mine with a cowboy kerchief, but you don't have to... no more coughing... Proven by MadSnapper since early childhood.

If your ears itch or you get water in them swimming, instead of Swim Ear make your own.
White vinegar, 90 % Rubbing Alcohol, Peroxide in equal thirds.
(NOTE:I said Rubbing alcohol, Wine or Beer will not work. Trust Me)

I Got this recipe from our Ear Nose Throat Doc (can't spell what he really is, can you?)

If you have a cut or scrape that just will not heal, just break off a piece of Aloe, split it open and rub all that slimy stuff on it... Voila! it will heal

Last but not least.... Pork Skins Do Not Burn..... blame this on Chatty Crone I read on her blog that if you are trying to build a fire and have no kindling, use Doritos for kindling.

Alas! Alack! I had no Doritos. if you send them to me I will let you know if they will burn. PS.. I had them on the list, but the only bag they had was FOUR DOLLARS.... I already had the pork skins... I am disappointed. I thought I could burn my pine cones with the pork skin.... PHOOEY

Old Dogs, New Tricks

Two photos I snapped at Blake Hospital because of the sky...while my photos uploaded, I checked email and Lucky for me,  PicMonkey  my favorite online edit program has just this week enhanced the Collage Process...

I needed photos to play with and popped them in a dual collage and found when in collage, you can now edit each photo or the whole collage at one time.

Before, if a photo was to light or to dark or needed to be sharpened, I had to do each one, save it and then go to collage to create. NOW it can be done all at one time.

Some say you can't teach an old dog new tricks... but you CAN...

because LIFE is nothing BUT new tricks...

Change is nothing but new tricks for old dogs, from COOKS to GEEKS, from FIREMEN and POLICEMEN to SOLDIERS and BLOGGERS.

for a cook, new utensils or a recipe, a geek it is new gadgets, software, hardware... What seems to be a CHANGE when Blogger or Google adds or removes, is nothing but New Tricks for us to learn...

I for one love new tricks... Can you tell? I challenge you to make a collage and share it with us.

Cereus chalybaeus Re-Post 9/21/09

Every new day brings new reasons to praise God. With each dawn, the wonders of creation and God's grace are evident anew

Mark 1:35 Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed

Psalm 30:5 Weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.

God's faithfulness in on display every single day. Every new morning is a gift from God, and a sign of His eternal presence

Excerpt from the poem, The Secret, by Ralph S.Cushman

I met God in the morning,

When my day was at its best,

And his presence came like sunrise,

Like a glory in my breast.

So I think I know the secret,

Learned from many a troubled way:

You must seek him in the morning

If you want him through the day!

Cereus chalybaeus Re-Post 9/19/09

Cereus chalybaeus (named from Greek/Latin signifying A Torch) also known as Columnar Cacti

My favorite name, one of many is Moonlight Cactus
These blooms can only be seen in full dark, the moment the sun comes up, they start to close. These pictures are from a neighbors house. It is very difficult to take pictures of them in the dark.

Click on photo to see the tiny details of this wonderful plant. It thrives in desert or tropical or semi-tropical, like Florida

The difference in this Moonlight Cactus and my Queen Of the Night: Moonlight is a column and Queen is a vine.
I took this at 5 AM. I tried to count the blooms, there were so many, it was difficult, I counted over 100 on the one plant. It was hard to count thinking the neighbor might come out and shoot me thinking I was an intruder. I mean WHO takes photos at 5 AM? I DO

This bud is ready to open the next night.
These are the fruit that grows on the cactus.

The fruit is pretty, like Christmas balls hanging on the cactus. I have been unable to find info on whether it is edible. My Queen of the Night has never had fruit, but it should.
