I was in my final year of HS in 65 and had just a few close girl friends. Valentines was more a family thing for us. I no longer had my Dad who died in 62 so as eldest I ran our family life a lot. I had two younger siblings and a mom who used alcohol each eve after work and sat in front of our first TV bought after Dad passed. She needed to escape from reality and did so for many year up to ‘74. I learned much later from an old letter she got that her employer was going to fire her if she continued to arrive each morning smelling like a drunk. Fear must have made ghee quit. And she kept it that way till she died in 88.
