Our Streets are stil lined with piles of trash, waiting to be picked up and turned into mulch. Only 8 percent has been picked up. I took a ride on just 3 blocks that we live on and if you enlarge photos you can see what the city is dealing with.
Our county/city came up with a solution to hurry it along.
They cut 30 miles of traffic to dump the trash to 2 miles by picking key locations IN town so they could dump more often.
Below is the park where Bob flies his plane.
The trucks dump it in one pile and 7 days a week there are men manning the dump, mulching it and piling in the big pile on the left. God bless these guys that work all day long in our blazing heat to get our city cleaned up.....at times on the left side the pile is 2 stories high, this was early am Sunday and they had about finished the pile.

Wow! I am impressed by their diligence and hard work!! What else can you do except keep on keeping on? I guess there is still no end in sight at this point. Will they bag up the mulch to sell somewhere? Who would buy it?
that is a lot of trash! it sounds like they are dealing with it as fast as possible
That is a huge job for the city crews. Reminds me of fallen trees during ice storms in Atlanta. I hope you and Bob have a nice weekend.
They have their work cut out for them these unsung heroes. Doing an important job and good of you to recognize them.
What a mess y'all are still living with, and I wonder how much longer. It reminds me of the piles of debris we see up here after a tornado. Working in that heat would be terrible. Good for you for acknowledging that after an event like that, it takes time to get it all cleaned up. Blessings on you all.
Hello, it is a mess but I am glad it is being dealt with by the town.
Dumping it closer in the park, does seem like a great idea and would move the process along a faster pace. Kudos to all the workers!
Happy Friday, enjoy your weekend!
This clean-up is being handled expeditiously it seems, which is good news because the amount of damage appears huge!!!...:)JP
My word...those are some mountains of debris. How smart to centralize the drop areas for more efficient pick up and chipping. Mom remembers when Fran came through Raleigh as a Cat 2 and told me that had mountains of debris all over Raleigh too.
Hugs madi and mom
I am impressed by how much street trash there is and at hard those men are working there.
Feel really bad for Puerto Rico...
California for all the fires...
What is going on?
That's a big job. Well done to those working hard and the strategy to get the clean-up done as quickly as possible. What will they eventually do with the piles of shredded wood and dry vegetation?
I wish the media would focus more on these kinds of stories. Ordinary heroes not looking for any acclaim, just doing what needs done. Seems like this would be a good time to give them all a raise! :)
Wow, it is amazing how much cleanup is still in progress...I'm so happy people are stepping up to help organize and get things done.
Thanks for sharing some of the 'behind the scenes' activity. These are things that don't make the news's they are not dramatic enough,I guess.
My goodness...this could be OUR town too. Still so much to clean up. The city has asked all homeowners to put wood/trees in one pile, fencing in another...metal and appliance debris in another....that way it's supposed to speed up the process. Who knows if it's working.
Loved your walkabout too....Mad Snapper at work! Seems once again, I'm playing 'catch up with your posts'!!
Squirrel love? Or not? Me.....LOVE!!!
That is a lot of cleaning up to do yet. Kudos to all those folks working hard to get the city back in order. I wonder what they do with the mulch?
I need to come back when I can and get caught up as once again I've been away from blogland...not that I wanted to be, just life gets in the way some days. :) Have a nice weekend!
PS meant to add that I love your sunset header photo...beautiful!!
wow I forget what a huge clean up yall have to do! Glad they are making progress
WOW, that's a lot of mulching. Now what do they do with all the mulch? Do they use it around the city or sell it?
Wow! There is so much to be cleaned up. Glad they are getting it done.
