Your Mission Today..

I have started my food plan using low fodmap foods, as per doctor and research and the shocker is, I found on the NO list the word Coffee!

You WILL be hearing and seeing FODMAP until it makes you as crazy as it is making me...I may change the blog to fodMAPsnapper!  A link is included in case you don't know how to google .
😁

I know coffee is a diuretic, but not that it also a laxative.
If you have an upset stomach, lay off the coffee and go for Tea.
If you suffer IBS symptoms, cut the coffee or pay the price.
It is the caffeine not the coffee, I hate decaf coffee.
NOOOOOOOOOOO I WILL NOT give it up

I chose to change from 4 cups per morning to  2 cups per morning. I have a crushing headache until I drink a few sips of coffee. Yes, it is an addiction. .

I always made a 12 cup pot. I do not want to pour out expensive coffee which means I changed
to making 6 cups.
Bob's comment was just make the full pot and forget about it.

12 cups of water to 6 spoons of coffee makes a pot full. I used 3 spoons coffee to 6 cups water

The photo above is my new fake café au lait

the new 1/2 pot gives 2 mugs for me 2 mugs for Bob and about 3 oz left of coffee.
With my breakfast I dump the left over coffee in my 4 oz of Lactaid milk with a drop of Vanilla Stevia drops
and call it café au lait.

this is a trick my brain into thinking  I am having a 3rd cup of Java.

One day there was barely enough to get bob's 2nd mug of coffee, and now I want to make
8 cups...

Your mission if you choose to accept it is this.

If I use 6 spoons coffee to 12 cups water and 3 spoons coffee to 6 cups,

how many spoons should I use in 8 cups of water.

Your second mission, to be done together or alone.

Please tell me what tea to drink that will calm the tummy or the mind or both.

Can/Will you help me?
PS I did get an appointment with a GI Specialist NP but not until October 26th
Just 20 days from today. woo hoo

Oh, I know all about FODMAPs!!! I learned forty years back that I was allergic to apples and coffee and none have been taken in all that time (with two exceptions and both times ...yeechhh) I have also not taken onion, garlic or mushrooms for well over ten years now and discovered more recently that cabbage is a problem for my IBS. I love cabbage and broccoli and such... but now the only brassica I seem to be able to tolerate is cauliflower - which is fine because a REALLY love that.

Drinks; here in Scotland we have Symington's Dandelion Root "Tea" which is actually a bit more like a coffee substitute (roasted roots ground) - that's pretty pricey but there are lots of other manufacturers of both leaf and root tea. It lower BP, balances sugars, calms inflammation - generally very good for the gut. For calming the nervous system (and mind) you could do worse than good old chamomile - but I also like nettle and fennel as both calming and digestive. That's a place to start for you... YAM xx

For 8 cups of water, you should use 4 spoons of coffee. Peppermint tea is very good for the stomach. And my gastroenterologist told me ginger tea is great for stomach problems. Not ginger FLAVORED. And ahe also recommended ginger gum. I have both. She also said to drink ginger beer, not the popular ginger ale which has no real ginger in it. But you may not want to do the ginger beer due to the sugar content. But it really worked well. So did the gum, only ginger with no sugar or sugar substitutes in it.

Try kombucha. It is fermented and flavoured tea.
Try keffir (fermented milk drink)
Fermented foods have been shown to be particularly good at contributing to gut health and balanced gut bacteria.
Try redbush tea - it isn't tea but some south african plant they use to make tea substitute. No caffeine, good taste,

Stress is the worst thing for your health Sandra and worrying about coffee etc is doing you no good at all. My advice is do what you want when you want and don't worry about anything if you can help it. I use the method of looking back at times in the past when I've worried sick about something and seen that it all passed and is now gone. Everything passes so enjoy the now.

I would say 4 spoons of coffee for 8 cups of water.
I know I've seen teas in Walmart that help with different things. I'm thinking they are a Celestial Seasonings brand but I'm not positive.

Hello,

My GI specialist told me to go on the fodmap diet years ago. I will not give up my coffee either. NO way! I was surprised at the "do not" eat list for the fodmap diet. Gluten and lactose are not good either, is there anything left to eat? I hope you are feeling well, take care. Have a happy day!

First, I don't drink coffee so I'm no help. 2nd, not much of a tea drinker either (no caffeine for me because of my SVT). But, I've read that peppermint tea is good for you.
And, thirdly, I also remember that I was told "100 years from now it will make no difference". So, keep enjoying your coffee!!!

That diet looks really hard to me - I admire your tenacity!! Seriously. Hope the doctor can help.

I've never heard of FODMAP, but it doesn't sound pleasant -- the coffee part, I mean. Have you thought about freezing the left-over coffee and adding a few cubes to your milk? I used to do that with the almond milk, but I suppose you could also just buy almond extract.

Sorry, but I've not discovered an enjoyable tea -- it either tastes too weak or bitter. Someone mentioned dandelion tea. A few years ago someone was touting that as a dietary aid -- put a couple bags in a gallon of water and drink the entire thing in one day. That didn't last long!

Crossing fingers and toes that you and the NP will arrive at a good solution!

I haven't heard about this either but I google everything so I'm sure I'll be on this today! lol I eat a small amount of yogurt in the middle of the morning in hopes of keeping my tummy healthy. I drink hot Chai tea for my allergies and that's all I know. Well...it's not ALL I know but you know what I mean. hahaha!

Oh dear me so sorry to hear that caffeine is a no no.
I drink hot tea some in the winter. After NOON I drink no caffeine. There are several Celestial Season teas w/o caffeine. I think they have a box of assorted varieties too.

Good luck.. I’m so sorry, but they do say slowly reintroduce foods to see what you can tolerate. Fingers crossed.

Decaf coffee still has laxative effect. I stopped all coffee, take Immodium on iffy days, and very much limit sugar and no longer have IBS symptoms. Have some ginger tea. Make sure it's actual ginger. I suggest putting a piece of dried ginger in, add extremely hot water. Many ginger "teas" have other items in there, too, that you don't want. Do NOT sweeten with honey if you have any diarrhea problems. BARELY sweeten anything, and if you do, use brown sugar. Just a bit, or a tiny bit brown sugar, tiny bit stevia. TINY BIT. Set up a ratio equation when you want to find out amounts, but since you are doing a 2:1 ratio with your coffee just halve the cups and you'll have your spoons of coffee. For less obvious rations, set up equation, here's an example using your problem: 6 spoons to 12 cups is x spoons to 8 cups. So, 6/12 = x/8. Cross multiply. 48/12x Isolate x, x = 4 LOL. Or look at 6/12. You notice it is reduced to 1/2. So, 1 to 2. Hee hee.

I've been using FODMAP on and off for months, along with other foods that I'm not supposed to eat in the first place, some of them are apparently okay with FODMAP... I've had some anguish with my gut health, but it seems to be happier a lot more of the time. Our bodies do not seem to like the modern world, that's for sure...

I also have been told to try the FODMAP eating plan, but I stick more to a "clean" eating plan which has helped my gut and diverticulitis ever so much. No preservatives, no to little sugar and low dairy...I too, could not give up coffee, but stick to lattes.

Also, try to lay off the stress...that has also helped me tremendously!

Good luck!

Mark has IBS and has always, still does, drink 2 cups of coffee each morning. He does however use a powder fiber each day. (4 TBLS) I was never a coffee drinker but started a few years ago. I have one half caff and one decaff coffee each morning. Hope your appointment goes well and that you get some good results.
