Dasyatidae in the pool.....

MadSnapper is sweeping the deck
Bob is in the pool and Yells "come here, look what is in the pool"....
and there it was...
a Baby Stingray, swimming in the pool.

I quickly snapped a few pics and reached in and lifted it out...

See? here is proof I picked it up.... (start laughing loudly here)

MadSnapper photo
The thing is we have no clue what it is. It is  a pod of some kind, but it really does look like a tiny little sting ray.

Dasyatidae - Stingrays are not aggressive, but you do NOT want to step on one. that barbed tail will make you think you are dying.
Below is a Wikipedia Stingray photo and THIS LINK if you want to see a real one........People who live in Florida know what they are.

Sandra, the resident marine biologist here, Grenville/Pat said he suspects that what you captured in the pool was a skate, which are similar to sting rays. Where did you release it?

Well, I'll be damned. That does look like a baby stingray. But how in the heck it would get in your pool is another question. Glad it's just a pod of some kind.

The whole time I was reading I was thinking HOW? How? I have never seen a stingray, not sure I want to. Your picture of one will be fine! It sure did look like one though!

DANG, you got me GOOD!!! The whole time, I thought it really was a baby stingray, I was staring in wonder at it in your hand! You had to tell me it was not until I finally knew otherwise! Many thanks to Bob! That is what killed that blonde crocodile hunter...Steve Irwin or something like that. He should not have been messing with them, he thought he could not get hurt and got too sure of himself. Even looking closely, I still believed and thought you may take a drive to the beach and release it!! HAR har har!!

Cool pod!!!! I know when the kids go to Sanibel they have to be very careful of the stingrays. That is in April. I wonder if they are there year round? I guess it is really bad if you get stung. Right? Yowsa!!!!!!

That is a strange looking pod and it does resemble a baby stingray. In your last photo it looks more animal than plant, very weird.

I was thinking...how in the world would a baby stingray get into your pool. LOL I just love your posts sweet Sandra. You can bring a smile to anyone's face. That is a weird looking pod and I am wondering where it came from. Strange things appear in your pool. Hugs
