Can U Guess What this is??

Looking at the above can you guess what it is?
Below is another clue.

On a cold day with bright sun, the sliding glass doors were covered in it. Above is the moss rose plant outside.

Did you guess yet?

The answer is.....

These would be great to use as textures, the colors in the collage were created by creative mode in camera

The Case of The Disapearing Cup

Bob: Where is the small measuring cup?
Sandra: I don't know, in the cabinet with the big cup I would think.
Bob: It's not there
Sandra: Did you look in the drainer?
Bob: IT"S NOT THERE!
Sandra: Well, I don't KNOW where it is...
ME THINKING.....THINKING.......
Sandra: I bet I know where it is...
YEP! there it was, inside the
 sugar canister.

I had filled his sugar jar that morning and had NO MEMORY of it when he first asked.
Mystery Solved when answer finally popped up to my 8 ball brain.
I have a matched set of three canisters that hold flour and cornmeal.

This Post is Axiomatic

When reading in my kindle, if I come to a word I don't know, I tap the word and a box pops up and tells me the definition.

Last week I tapped the word axiomatic because I have never seen it or heard it before.

I found the the definition and looked up the definition of the definition and the next one to. . .

I give you the What If that popped in my head...What if the Declaration read like this?

We hold these truths to be axiomatic, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights... from USA Declaration of independence in 1776

Why not
We hold these truths to be self-evident, apparent, undeniable, unquestionable? HUMMM???

Have you ever used, heard or read this word axiomatic? Would our forefathers have know what it meant? Does it matter now? HEH HEH HEH

But wait! there's more. I DID NOT STOP I searched define unalieanble to see if there was another word I never heard and  and found that some versions of The Declaration of Independence used unalienable rights and others inalienable rights and they mean the same thing. Rights that cannot be given or taken away. if you want to see more info here is The Link

Controlling Time

When I sit at my computer, the times goes into fast forward and 2 hours can be gone in what seems like a blink... I find if you want to slow it down to a crawl, sit down at the computer while waiting for an hour to pass before you leave for a doctor appointment.... Watch the clock and it slows to a crawl.

You can also make time go faster than the speed of light if you FORGET to watch it for an appointment. That will speed up time and also cause every traffic signal in your path to turn red as you approach.

You can adjust the traffic signals by leaving EARLY and you will catch them all on green.

You may blame this hand on Ann at AnnesSnapEditScrap. I was inspired by her Post Hold Your Applause and scanned my hand. Of course I had to Play with it in PhotoShop. I wanted to change my header to show and say what my blog is about. An eclectic mix mash of Snap shots and writings on much ado about nothing or everything... High Five Everybody....

Judy, A.K.A. Squirrel Queen, asked if I ever took black and white with the camera, the answer was no, i don't know if the Rebel will take black and white.... Well, yes it does.... I tried the jungle shot first

then I aimed the camera at the Jungle Keeper and got a scowl  (the spots on the shirt are from throwing chlorine into the pool when the wind was blowing in his face)

(yes, I could have removed said spots, but why bother)

a Stop now scowl...

and as I begged for a small smile, this was as good as it got.....he Almost Smiled

Random Pics Downtown

Coffee shop with tables on the sidewalk
"it bothers me that there are things' I don't know"...
quote from  Plum Island (John Corey book 1) by Nelson DeMille.

I have a curiosity bump a mile high. the above quote is why my blog is eclectic and you never know what will pop up here. I will see something or hear a word, and I must find out about it, I must know what or when or why..

The cure for boredom is curiosity, there is no cure for curiosity. Dorothy Parker.

Curiosity, the reason I use Google Search every day of my life, is it bothers me there are things I don't know.

Farmers Market
In the same book, I found another quote that is ME ME ME.....
" I love other peoples cooking"

I love the baker of Oreo Cookies, I love the bakers in a bakery, I love home cooking as long as it is not in my home by ME..

Manatee County Courthouse

Manatee County Courthouse was built in 1913, the year my dad was born. It is famous because Bob and I were married in that courthouse on Feb. 8th 1985 and My grand parents got their marriage license there in 1923, and my parents got their marriage license there in 1943...

In 1892 the lot cost $200.00 and  $62.60 to clear it.
They built a wooden courthouse, which was later destroyed and this one took
it;s place in 1913. Our first courthouse built in 1860 is preserved in Manatee Village CLICK HERE for a photo of the first courthouse.

Above is the garden in front of the courthouse and  the monster County Administration building. And below is the building from 1920 with the monster parking garage behind it.

Above next to the courthouse is the Jail and the newer courthouse, the old is now administration with court held in the newer building. To the west and across the street are 3 churches in a row. Our downtown is a mix match of styles..

G.R.I.T.S. - Girls Raised In The South

Photo of water droplets on Dandelion Heads, hanging in the waiting room when I had my MRI

About Grits from former post yesterday....
I found History of Grits and there is so much I did not know.
I thought it was a Southern Dish, but we got it from the Native Americans. If you want to know all about it, click on the link above.
If you Care NOT one Whit...
MOVE ON

Go  Get Your Mitts On Some Grits is my advice

Grits MUST be cooked 20 minutes or longer
Grits MUST be stirred many times to prevent lumping and make smooth

'Grit' and Bear it! Three-quarters of grits sold in the U.S. are predominantly in the South, stretching from Texas to Virginia, which is also known as the “grits belt.” The state of Georgia declared grits its official prepared food in 2002

Can any of you guess where I was born and raised? Starts with a G and ends with A and grits is the
 official food.

Backside of  backyard hibiscus
My friend Jo, in Africa calls it Maize... In Italy is is called Polenta... It is all made from coarse ground corn which makes cornmeal, and it depends on how many times it is stone ground. I learned this on this site Polenta vs Grits

Done with grits FOR NOW, no promises for the future

I broke 6 of the 10 Commandments

Photos from goole search of images for grits.
Daddy had to have grits with his fish and his bacon and eggs.

I love grits.. in fact I broke a few of  the 10 commandments last night for dinner.
Our go to dinner when I don’t want to cook, is grits with margarine and grated sharp cheese and white bread toast.
I put my grits on my toast so don’t have to worry about it running through a fork, plus they were instant.
I do love cooked grits best but hate to wash that pot after soaking for hours. high lighted are the commandments I broke. OH MY...

NOTE to People who don't like grits, if you don't like it you  do not cook it long enough... 30 minutes or longer is the cooking time. Most restaurants have horrible grits

The 10 Commandments of Grits

I. Thou shalt not put syrup on thy Grits
NEVER Never would I

II. Thou shalt not eat thy Grits with a spoon or knife
I ate it on white toast but I always use a fork

III. Thou shalt not eat Cream of Wheat and call it Grits, for this is
blasphemy ..

IV. Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's Grits.

V. Thou shalt use only salt, butter, and red-eye gravy as toppings for thy
Grits.
I had sharp cheese in it

VI Thou shalt not eat Instant Grits.
Oh yes I DID

VII. Thou shalt not put ketchup on thy Grits.

VIII. Thou shalt not put margarine on thy Grits.
Oh Yes, I did

IX. Thou shalt not eat toast with thy Grits, only biscuits made from
scratch.
Oh yes I did

X. Thou shalt eat grits on the Sabbath for this is manna from heaven.

Now begin eating your grits. Always use a fork, never a spoon, to eat Grits.
Your grits should be thick enough so they do not run through the tines of
the fork.

The Camera Picks the PIC part 1

6 photos in order created by one click.

I shared with you in a former post that I found the odd setting Creative Mode on my Canon Powershot 600.
I said it is pretty useless and I will not be using it again.... While sitting at the table, I aimed the camera at the flowers and Voila!  I left it on creative mode. As you can see above it creates random pics all by itself and without editing are pretty useless. The problem is there is no control over it. The Camera Pics the PIC

When I saw this drawing it created, I decided to PICMONKEY with it. You can see it was smeary, but with one click of auto edit, it became a drawing. Below I just used the burn tool to touch it up....

BUT WAIT! there will be MORE...... I had so much fun with this I had to play with it again. and again... TO BE CONTINUED....

Tornado.. We are Safe..

Photo from our local weather channel Here
UPDATE: 2 dead, 4 children hospitalized

3 AM today, phone rang and National Weather service recording said Tornado warning, tornado on the ground in your area, take cover immediately... WHAT? we do NOT have tornado here, not in my lifetime

We put on clothes, grabbed flashlight and two phones and prepared to get in the closet. I flipped on the news and we sat for an hour watching the tracker on the screen. it came on shore just south of us, right on one of our beaches and did a lot of damage.

Thank you to the Weather Service for the warning. The storm has moved on and we have 3 inches of rain and a few limbs and leaves down.

This damage done by the one just South of us HERE

Poor Jake is used to going out the back door as soon as our feet hit the floor, he had to HOLD IT for 90 minutes, we did not. HE HE HE

his bathroom was in a 87 thousand raindrops per second and 157 strikes of lightning in 11 minutes... I am not sure if keeping a running score of lightning strikes on the screen while watching a red whirling thing move across us is how I want to wake up on Sunday AM.

Focused On Weeds

Good News: weeds here grow year round and I found tiny flowers on a couple of weeds and practiced focusing first on background then on the flowers.

“When life is not coming up roses
Look to the weeds
and find the beauty hidden within them.”
L.F.Young

Bad News: yesterday we got up to a dead Heat Pump Unit.. as in nil, nada, nothing happened when turned on.
Good news: Repairman called during thunder storm, said he could come between raindrops, rain stopped at noon, he came and by 4pm same day service and we had heat/ac.
Bad news: it cost 895.00
Good News: today we woke up to 60 going to 76, tomorrow morning we wake up to 40 going to 60 and that is predicted every day next week. HOORAY for the same day repairman.

Donkey Defenders Re Post 2010

Paco the horse and Eyeore the Donkey (note he is not purple) live next door to Val and Cookie. Robert called them over to the fence for me.
Robert told me ranchers and farmers use Donkey's instead of dogs for Guard Donkey's. Who Knew? Not me!
Click on link for info about how ranchers use donkeys as defenders Howling For Justice

The donkey stays close to Paco to keep the flies off both of them, you can see in the series they were rubbing against each other, and removing the flies. 2 tails are always better than one for swishing of pesty flies.

Jennies rather than the Jacks of the species are superior pasture guards because of maternal, protective characteristics, Gersbach said. Donkeys, or burros, gravitate toward bonding with whatever livestock happens to share their pasture, whether it is horses, cattle, sheep, or goats

However, too many donkeys in one meadow will encourage herd behavior and yield less effective protection. The most effective pasture guardians arrive at a young age and grow up among their animal neighbors.
Donkeys have the advantage over working dogs in pasture settings because they eat the same food as other livestock, Gersbach said.
