I Forgot to do a post

I am so used to having a week of posts on auto post, that I did not realize there was no post today until I had no comments from my blog in my email. Shocked I checked to see if I put the wrong date/time and there was no post and not even one in drafts. I always have a week in drafts and a week on auto post.
See the pile of limbs above. this is why I forgot to check for a post.

I fought through automated phone systems from 8:30 to 10:15 . INSURANCE nuff said
I missed The Man.
Walking outside to hunt for the 83 year old man,
I found him ON THE ROOF.
He leaned a ladder, he climbed the ladder
He was walking around using a PITCH FORK to shovel off pine needles.
A broom and a rake were also in use.
I yelled what are you doing?????
Are you crazy? Why didn't you tell me? (fill in the blanks)
He says hand me the chain saw, I am taking off the limbs.
With words flowing I try, i can't lift it up high enough because i have enough sense to refuse to climb a ladder with a chainsaw.
Get the rope, he yells.
Where is it?
I loop the rope around the chainsaw and pretend I am a cowboy, trying 6 times before
I get the end of the rope up to him.
He stands on the edge, my heart races while he bends over to pick up the rope and hauls the saw up..
He yells Get the orange extension cord, plug it in by the kitchen and throw the cord up to me.
Said Chainsaw is electric.
I am more than happy you did not see me trying to toss a coiled cord up on the roof.
I watched for an hour while the barefoot 83 year old man
Sawed and dragged and tosses over edges of roof onto the ground, the big green branches.
my heart stopped a few tmes, as his foot almost got under the cord,
as he held a chainsaw out and up over his head, as he dragged limbs and dropped limbs.
The worse part of all was the dismount from the roof, down the ladder the old lady clung to, praying his foot would find a rung and another and another.
The limbs are gone, my heart has slowed down, he is on firm ground.
until the next time.

How very, very scary. I have one here that does scary things, too. I sometimes think they are brainless at a certain age-which leads to them being fearless. lol Hugs- Diana

Oh, my word! I would have wanted to hang him if I wasn't so afraid already.

I do not envy the phone calls...or attempted phone calls as it sometimes is. One of Roger's dr's used to have this automated system...they must have got complaints, cause now someone answers the phone and you tell her what you need and then she directs your call. I am sure I was not the only one that did not know who I needed to speak to sometimes...

Oh my! I love our husbands that are 'can do' kind of men but it sure scares me when they make up their minds to do things like this! I'm glad it had a happy ending and all you had on the ground was a pile of limbs....WHEW! Hope today is good!

Dear father in heaven! Your agile buckaroo gets the trophy! Cutting tree limbs...even with a chainsaw, is NOT easy. He did good. And you with your orange lasso roping the roof ... you just have to come in top place too. Now, tell him if he does that again you're gonna tie him to an ant pile in the desert with no water next time he does something foolish like that!!

Wow my heart also began to pound.
I lately have no comments on my first and or
original blog so today I did a short one on my photo blog. Pics are lousy as I was not willing to struggle to my laptop for more and better ones.

Good Grief Sandra...you have a 16 yo rebellious teen in an 83 yo body
I'm sure that was enough scary stuff for a year. As we have discussed many times, Bob is surely my dear departed Daddy's brother from another mother.
I recall a conversation with Mama when Daddy was about the age of Bob.
She called to tell me Daddy was on the roof.... A G A I N.

Wow, I would have been a nervous wreck too. A chainsaw and on a roof, that is scary. I would like the tree cutting left to the experts.

I am glad all turned out ok. Enjoy your day!

WHY do boys think they're bullet-proof? Reading this detail my pulse was racing to beat the band. Why? Because he could!

Last year Tom climbed up on our roof but hadn't counted on the slick tiles. He kept yelling at me because I couldn't secure the clamp-thingies(?) on the ladder. (Still not sure what they're called, but they secure the extension in place.) I was secretly hoping one of the neighbors would see/hear him and call the Fire Department.

Oh MY!!! You missed your calling, you should have been a suspense novel writer. Really. I was on the edge of the couch, even though I knew it would end well because of this post. You are Mrs. Stephen king. With your next novel named simply "The Roof". Phil wants a chain saw for his birthday, and you know why I have put my foot down! Because I want HIM to still have both feet and hands. We'll see how that goes.

My heart was pumping also. Oh My<My.

Off to day from hospital visit.

From my darling hubby. Nurses say I need to have two days off for me. So I have done this . Having a friend over this afternoon for tea and a yummy of some sort. Tea or coffee whatever her pleasure is.

My one girlfriend who has since passed. Her husband the same thing. What is it with men and trees and branches and chainsaws. Your a brave soul.

And her Hubby Al is still around but now he is walking the dog not using Chainsaws. Thank goodness.

Our life at times is so parallel it is amazing. Rick did that once and I almost got killed from the branch falling! If they don't die on the roof you want to kill them when they come down! lol Glad he was safe.

Chatty Crone's comment made me laugh..
Man, I was holding my breath..what a guy you have there Sandra.
I get so mad at Dave when he gets up on the ladder when I don't know he's up to something.
After he fell from the ladder when we first moved in this house..I am paranoid...too scary for these "old' guys.

I know JUST how you felt!!! Been there and done that with my very own 83 year old man!! Then they just look at us and ask, "WHO are you calling an OLD man???"

Ruth Hiebert said...

Well, I see good and bad in this post. It's good, because not many men of that age are able to climb a ladder, much less do all that work. It is bad, because I found myself cringing at the thought of him falling.

Oh what a typical man he is. All those things you mentioned that he was doing are why women live longer than men. You would never catch one of us up on the roof barefoot with a chainsaw and a pitchfork.

OMG 83 and doing that. He's nuts or has a death wish. Doctors say you shouldn't climb ladders after 55 because our balance deteriorates then. My Bill rarely does any more except to disconnect a faulty fire alarm the morning at 3:00am. His friend fell off his roof doing what your man was doing. Bill's friend broke his back and was in a wheel chair for the rest of his short life. That brought it home to Bill and he never went on the roof again. Hide the ladder.

There are times when determination gets in the way of caution and this definitely seemed one of those times, Sandra. Glad all worked out ok.

I remember my 90 year old father-in-law on the roof back in the day. We had a young roof worker fall off a neighbor's roof at the bottom of the road. He didn't have a support-rope around his waist. I watched a life-flight helicopter pick him up and take him away. So I can imagine what you went through seeing Bob up there.

OMG, he can't be doing that!!! I don't even like Mark doing that at 68 years old.
