Don't Forget to Re-Cycle!

When the city delivered our new recycle barrel, I had to rethink what went in which trash bin.

We have always had the kitchen can, inside a cabinet to keep the D.O.G. out.  I needed a smaller can that would hold a 13 gallon bag, to replace the large one we have used since the first dog of five.

This Restaurant Mayonnaise Container is perfect. I found it in the garage and Bob was happy to trade the smaller can for the larger.  I recycled the recycled... my motto is Use What You Have.

this small can is for organic material only.
UPDATE DUE TO GINNY COMMENT
Extra Heavy Mayonnaise is specifically designed for foodservice operations.
It's high oil and egg content provide superior binding and cling in prepared salads and salad dressings.
this can holds 30 gallons of Mayo.. it is bigger than it looks, 13 inches tall and square, 9 in by 9 in.

I did a fun post on recycled Robots in 2015, check out what the children did. HERE

Every small thing counts...… Find a use for what you are about to toss out!  What do you have in your home that has been recycled for other uses?

The robots are really cool. What gets me is Heavy Duty mayo. I guess that is the opposite of Light mayo. Or maybe mayo that lasts longer, or is stronger. But you found the perfect size for your needs! We reuse all our paper grocery bags for trash cans.

We recycle just about everything that can be recycled. We can't use our reusable bags at the store now, though. Not until the crisis is over.

I am part of a family that doesn't believe in trashing anything that can even remotely be 'repurposed'!!! The uses for containers of one thing for other things has endless possibilities. Yes, recycle, reuse, rework... you name it, and do it! YAM xx

I am with Yamini on this...everything is repurposed and always recycled. Our recycle bin for city pick-up each week is filled more than the 2nd one...the trash bin.

They don't do the sorted garbage for recycling around here. There are plenty of times though that I will take something destined for the trash and use it for something else.
Your smalll can for organic material reminds me of my dad. He would save things from the kitchen like potato peels and such and dump them in his garden.

Hello,

My hubby is good at recycling things. We do keep up with our recycle trash too. Good advice and post. Take care, have a happy week!

We also attempt to re-purpose stuff. When one of us comes up with a new use we declare 'no spendy!'
Recycling is a bit mixed up. All three of our children live away from their hometown and all three have different recycle rules from ours. We are provided one open tub and are only required to recycle certain things and we are still permitted to have 'burn barrels' and open fires. Arizona son has full size curb containers provided for various subjects. PA son may be same or different than ours being in a different county. And Tennessee daughter's county is optional recycling.

I wish we had the recycled pick-up here. I dont know how far it would be to drop off recyckedcstuff, but then there would be that long drive and dirt of defeating the purpose.

We're provided with three big wheely bins for paper, general waste, plastic and metal by the council. Wet waste is composted, glass jars are washed, sterilized and reused for dry goods or for bottling jams, vegetables and fruit. Really big containers are painted a pretty colour and used as plant pots. Bits of scrap metal and wood stored in the garage is reused in the garden. Like everywhere we have to use our own big shopping bags when we go food shopping and many stores are switching to paper bags for fruit and veg although at the moment the shopping routine has been disrupted as goods in crates are delivered to homes instead.

I wish the local Waste Management folks would get on the recycling bandwagon. Is that even legal, nowadays?
Gosh, I'm going to have to put on my thinking cap. Since moving to a smaller space with no garage, I've tossed and tossed. And tossed some more. The only thing I can think of are used glass jars for bacon grease, etc. Oh, and plastic grocery bags for trash can liners. When I arrived at Wal-Mart this morning they'd not refilled the hand/cart sanitizer wipes, so I grabbed one of the plastic umbrella bags and wrapped that around the cart handle. Every day's a school day, no?

LOVE those recycled robots! Guess I never had much imagination -- I was always the 'color inside the lines' type of kid.

I stopped using plastic bottles to drink from and now have a filter for the well water. I don't like the taste so buy gallon bottles for drinking water. I also stopped using plastic soap bottles, now I use bar soap instead. Every little bit helps. Since I have a dog yard, I need to keep it clean. I reuse the large dog food bags for that purpose. If I run out of those, I reuse the plastic bags we get from the stores now. I haven't been to the store since March 14, but friends have brought a few things for me. Looking around, I don't know what else I do for the environment. I drive as little as possible and even less now. Just once a week to the post office to get my mail. And to the dump when needed. I would love to see Los Angeles without traffic, but that's not to be. Sorry, a very long comment.

I have never ever heard of heavy duty mayo - I learn something new every day!
Yes recycle.

My Hubby is a grade #1 recycler...nothing goes to waste.
Our waste company does all the recycling from our large bin.
We keep all our plastic and glass and go to the only recycling receiving place in the area now. All the others have closed. Now they pay by total weight and not the individual bottle or can. Financially wise its not such a good deal but at least we feel we are doing something.
