Thankful Thursday

Today I am thankful I have Bob and Big Boy and a home to live in, and lots of food.

This photo was taken through my living room window on a Saturday morning. She pulled her car over across our driveway and walked around to rummaged in the front and back seat. She stood and turned with a bottle of water and took a big swig.

I watched to see what she was doing, because an hour earlier, as we returned home from walking Big Boy, there was a black car pulled in almost the same spot, and a woman got out, walked to the trunk, rummaged and stood up with a bottle of water. Walked to the driver side got in and drove off.

We walked past the first one and into the house and when a short time later a second did the same thing, we did a lot of discussing and wondering and pondering.
Guess what we figured out.
The Church at the other end of the street was giving out free water and groceries to the homeless.
I felt sad for them, even if they had a home to go to, which I doubt, because both cars had trunk and back seat full of clothing.
I am  thankful that the church is helping our homeless population.

Oh! Bless the church, and fingers crossed for the poor people who need the help.

I hope that is what was going one, good for that church! Actually doing something instead of just meeting and talking about it.

But STILL, why would they both stop in front of your driveway? For that matter, why would they stop at all if they had just been so close by?

we totally agree... it is such a bitter feeling to see such people and to know that we can not really help. we can support them and we can make it easier, but sadly we can not help them to solve all problems... but I wish I could...

There but for the Grace of God go I. That was a frequent saying of my father whenever he came across someone who needed help. I am glad to hear they are being helped by the church.

Helping others is good. Better yet, helping those help themselves is better.

If not your drive, then someone else's... as said above, it is through grace that we are not in that position. Bless that church... YAM xx

I'm curious like Ginny, why would they both stop in front of your driveway. It's nice that the church is giving out free food and water though.
There is a woman around here who's car is full of stuff except for the drivers seat. I've seen her sitting in the parking lot going through some of the papers and things she has in there. It's really quite sad. Come to think of it I haven't seen her in quite a while.

Doesn't it make you curious as to what has led to the homelessness? I cannot imagine being homeless in the heat or the cold. Never knowing what you are going to eat next or how you are going to get clean.

You are so right - it is nice to take a moment and be thankful for what we have. It is so sad - but I am glad they have some place to get things. :(

What a great gesture! Unfortunately, my Spidey senses were going the other way: I suspected it was a group riding around and scoping out homes to burgle. Glad you have BOTH your knights to protect you!

We do have quite a homeless situation in the greater Sacramento area.
Its sad and as someone of the commenters said we sure don't know what their story is.
I feel for the single parents that are trying to make ends meet and finding shelter against the elements.
That's a wonderful thing for the church to do.
Covid has curtailed some of the humanitarian things Dave and I used to do. I really miss it.
19 California counties are back to phase 1 again. Too many cases.
Fortunately ours in Northern CA isn't one of them. We are Placer County and our numbers are very, very low. So far so good for us.

Most of us are so rich and have so much to be thankful for. Maybe not rich in money, but we have all our needs met and have a comfortable home to live in.

It is sad and will get worse as the COVID lingers on and the economy is stuck due to closure of many businesses.

You definitely figured that one out. It is wonderful that the church is helping out. I hope they have someplace to go other than their car.
