Saint Nick Salt Shaker

My Santa Salt shaker is one of five I kept when I ditched my Santa Collection a few years ago..
I bought him and another salt shaker at an antique store in 1985. the year  I got married.

This past week, I finished my coffee in bed, reached out to sit my cup on the bedside table, sat it
down and the cup turned  over, it flipped into the air and rolled UNDER the MIDDLE of The Bed.
It made a racket, hit the frame of the bed, the leg of the stand.

I got out of bed, went down the hall, and as I left Bob was saying where are you going?

(he did not hear the clanging of the falling cup and did not hear me when I said
I dropped the #@%$$ cup)

I came back with Daddy's walking cane in my hand. He looked shocked and said What Are You Doing?

I said this is the only thing long enough with a hook on the end to reach under the bed.
He said why do you want to reach under the bed?
There is NOTHING like living with the hard of hearing.
The cane Worked and the cup survived.
Unlike the time Bob sat my collectible coffee cup with his coffee in it, on the TRAILER Hitch of the blazer and Drove Off.....the cup was never seen again.
That was also in 1985, the two collectible mugs were a birthday gift from a friend.
That was also in 1985, lest we forget. HA
I raised such a fuss that he kept the other one save until
10 years later when he dropped the matching cup on our tile floor.
Never to be seen again.

Good save! I have an actual long grabber. Gosh, there is no way to clean up the spill, either! I remember this Santa and his long eyelashes! Didn't he have a Mrs. Santa?

so sorry that this morning started so rough for you... but I just imagine the face of your husband as you came with the walking cane in your hand :O)

At least you had finished the coffee before it fell, that helps a bit.

Are you sure you are not married to Saint Nick?

Hello,

I love the cute Santa and the little red teddy bear. I could use a grabber that is long. Hubby might have an old cane, good idea.
I am always dropping things, luckily nothing has broken. Take care, have a happy new week!

This Santa is so cute. Too bad about the cups. I need one of those canes. The last few days Gibbs has been playing with a ball that keeps rolling under the couch.

Can't define it, but I really like the look of your Santa shaker. More like the Santa face I recall from childhood -- so I guess that makes me vintage, too.

That's sad about your collectible cups killed in action. Curious, how emotionally attached we get to inanimate objects. Loved your story of runaway coffee cup, tho ... I could totally visualize that.

The way things fall and roll out of reach . . . it had to be some kind of conspiracy.

I love this story. The moral of it may be: Don't get attached to stuff.
I had a friend who was hard of hearing and used to blame me, telling me I was mumbling. I don't see her very often now. Well, now I don't see anyone, but if now were normal times, I still wouldn't.

I love you little Santa and sorry about all the cup mishaps. My grandfather was hard of hearing and always said the funniest things - I'd say Grandpa I washed your shirts and he'd say sure I'll have some dessert lol

Cute Santa. Smart to use a cane for the retreaval. 1985 was the year my last baby come into the world and she has now given me two sweet granddaughters. Laser time we were all together was a year ago November. They came for our 50th anniversary. Now none of us can cross the Atlantic for visits.
By the way when I have a rare cup of decaf I often bump it with coffee still in it and what a mess!
My hubby is not deaf according to latest hearing test but the memory loss issue affect how he processes stuff and it can be super frustrating. I am trying hard not to loose my cool when he claims I said something he thought he heard. He easily angers if I try to challenge his thought. Buddy has lights in our window for this Christmas. He is happy.

wow, it seems everything is an adventure for you two. Good thinking to use the cane. We have a grabber, pincer that gets used all the time.
Love your Santa salt shaker..he's a real keeper.
We sold a few things on Ebay so we are off to the post office to send them on their way. And so starts our crazy day..to be continued.

You don't have carpet to stain? Lucky you. My dear man can drown my talk out and not hear me & he is NOT hard of hearing!! Love the shaker...so nostalgic.

Can you hear me laughing?! I am sorry but it was so funny the way you wrote it I could vividly see and hear you.

I will try the lunapic on the photos. didn't realize it picked up unseen things.

There is a way to find out if a man is deaf or just not listening... whisper something. lol I love your cup story, so dramatic the way the cup fell.

LOL- Oh, Sandra. That is something that would happen to me...except when I came in with the cane and was asked what I was going to do with it---well, I would have given a different sort of answer...which I won't print out here. lol
Love your Santa. I also gave my Santa collection to my kids. I had at least 125+ Santas. I kept some of my big, favorite ones. xo Diana

Ho Ho Ho! Love that Santa. I have a collection of s/p shakers but all kinds. My son bought me beautiful whales when he visited Boston severally years ago. They are so pretty and my SIL Brittany gave me the Aristocats. I Have many and love them all. My hubby came home and was the lucky charm to get this blasted laptop working again. Hurrah! It is good to see you here. Take care and I enjoy your comments too. HUGS across the miles to you and Bob and be safe. I ran into something, can not remember what and have a large bruise on my upper thigh.
Have a great week Sandra! Stay happy, stay healthy and keep telling your stories. xo xo
