When we go to bed each night, I am always in bed first, and when Bob comes from his bathroom he is STONE Deaf. He removes his hearing aids and is GONE. If a serial killer breaks in it is Beau and Me to handle it.
We use sign language and a form of Charades to talk if I need to tell him something.
We are in a drought and it is RARE to hear thunder. Even with hearing aids in, he can only hear the BAM that is right over the house and makes the windows shudder.
A couple of weeks ago, just as he laid down, there were 2 loud claps of thunder. I wanted him to know
I waved my hand in the air to get his attention and when he lifted his head I pointed straight up, and clapped my hands together and did the BOOM by spreading my hands in the air.
He said Thunder? and I gave him a thumbs up. We both laughed. this is common for us.
Last night just as he laid down, someone set off a cherry bomb next door. Beau jumped to his feet and gave 2 loud barks!
Bob said did he bark? I YELLED Fireworks! He said WHAT? after screaming Fireworks at the top of my lungs 3 times and him shaking his head he could not get it, I pretended to light something and throw it in the air and did the wide arm BOOM signal.
He said Fireworks? I gave the thumbs up.
We both started to laugh and could not stop. I told him this morning why I could not stop.
I thought about the neighbors next door, pondering why I was screaming
Fireworks! Fireworks! Fireworks!
As if no one new what the sound was.
Last week, we had 18 sprinkles of rain at midnight and the Bong! Bong! Bong! of rain dripping off the roof on to the plastic jug HE left under the dripline, under the bedroom window. I went out in the drizzles in the dark with a flashlight to move the DRUM!
It occurred to me, if I fell in the mud outside, even though I would be under the bedroom window, 4 feet from his head, I would lay there all night until he got up and missed me not in the bed.

A fun bedtime game! You would easily win any charades game. I don't care if it would have keptyou awake all night, you should not have gone out in the mud and dark!! And you KNOW why...what IF!!
great that you found a way to communicate ;O) I felt the same while reading about the mud and a hypothetical fall... same here, maybe I should wear a blanket cape at night when I'm outside, there are some doubts that he will miss me before 9 am the next morning ;)
Mr T is quite deaf, and Mr B can sleep through anything except F getting up earlier than him (about which he gets grizzly because it wakes him up). F wishes she could sleep without hearing the loud noises in the street. Lucky Bob.
I can picture you two doing the bedtime charades/sign language. I got a chuckle out of it. At least he's understanding what you're telling him.

Well, yes it is funny - unless something horrid really does happen... methinks you all need a contingency plan... YAM xx
This post had me laughing as well, Sandra, and while it’s good that you and Bob can communicate, it also seems quite frustrating perhaps for yourself. And, the. As you also noted, if something were to happen to you…
Oh m'gosh, you've got me cracking up. What a team! Ever think about trying out for one of those game shows?
On a serious note -- I was sure surprised Monday morning when one of the gals (about our age) showed me, she's got one of those 'panic buttons' on a chain around her neck because she doesn't always have her cell phone with her. Something I don't want to think about, but still .....
Well you made me laugh too.
Hugs Cecilia
True love!!
Wow, Game Time!! Charades ...you make me laugh but I see it is necessary for communication.
Sandra, life is never dull at your house.
The only loud booms I hear at our house at night time is Dave's snoring rumbles...
OMG you guys crack me up! I can relate though, you know my husband doesn't hear well either lol.
It sounds as if you're comfortable with one another and communicate well with sign language when you settle down for the night. Fireworks and water drumming would be annoying. I would have to do something about the drip drip sound too. Glad you got a bit of rain.
Oh my, this post had me laughing out loud.
My hubby can not hear with or without his hearing aids.
I think he needs new ones. Take care, have a great day!
Sandra, this is so funny, I am still laughing when I think about it. I know if a serious situation occurred he would be saved by you and the dog. The Pres has a gun in a small safe right near his bed. I just wonder if he'll shoot me by mistake because he can't see or hear!!!...jp
Oh my gosh! You two are funny.
I can just see you! Fun times!
Maybe you should get one of those monitoring devices and wear it at night! Especially if you are venturing outside in slick conditions, in the rain and the dark! I know it is funny with your charades, but gosh if I fell, I doubt I could get up! I pray you are in better shape!
That's true about going outside. That's when you need an alert button. I love the sign language between you too!
I'm glad you are able to laugh at these things.
That’s funny and it’s good you got the charades to communicate. No, don’t slip and fall anywhere outside in the middle of the night 😳
