Diversity Symmetry Saturday

I took this photo in 2010, at the nursing home my friend Rich lived in.  I had no idea when I took the photo that the photo told a story. I was looking at symmetry and shadows.

On every part of Our troubled world humans seem to be unable to embrace our fellow mankind and the fact we are all different but the same. When the photo came up on the screen I thought, Diversity.

Diversity is not about how we differ. Diversity is about embracing one another’s uniqueness. Ola Joseph

Then I realized the photo reminded me of my lifelong challenge of feeling like I was different. I found this quote by Alice Hoffman.

My theory is that everyone at one time or another has been at the fringe of society in some way:
an outcast in high school,
a stranger in a foreign country,
the best at something, the worst at something, the one who’s different.
Being an outsider is the one thing we all have in common. Alice Hoffman

I see the one chair that is different than all others...yet, it's still a chair. It moves a whole different way than the others. Unique but still one of the same.

That diversity is the strength of the whole. Without out it we would all fall on the same challenges. Diversity provides us with the ability as a society to handle everything. Why are we not taught from a young age to appreciate, understand, embrace that idea?
We like the Alice Hoffman quote.

This photo is fabulous. The chair really stands out in the crowd of others. It's different but yet it fits in.

I guess we are all the same underneath every thing else...

I'd not heard of Alice Hoffman, but I love this quote! How I wish I'd seen this when, 60-some years ago I began to feel like an outcast, a loser looking in.
Thank you for introducing me to Alice. I'm going Googling now.

I think what you and Alice said is spot on.

What I saw in the picture was how nice they were all out of the sun - lol - I hate sitting in the sun. I like the just not sitting for an hour in it - see I am weird.

What a neat quote. I was actually thinking about this very subject this week...I lost some sleep over it. I was thinking how different my life has been from what I read in most blogs. But I'm happy and want everyone else to be happy, so I should not worry about it. lol

Good Morning Sandra, I have not heard of Alice Hoffman, but I love the quote, and your photo which demonstrates how a chair can be a different from the others, but it is still a chair. I embrace diversity, and think this is an exceptional post.
