Believe it Or not

The squirrels and racoons are still bombarding us with avocados, and I pray they will knock them all down and get out of town.

Bob is picking them 2 at a time because that is a lot of fruit to eat. I read somewhere that I could cut them up, mashed with salt/lemon, and keep it in the fridge.  THIS IS NOT TRUE!

Well, it IS true! But it tasted good fresh, but the next day, I gagged when I ate it, gave it to Bob, Who Eats Any and All Things, and he said toss it. I did!  I decided not to try freezing it because that will turn out Not to be True. Now after the 87 days it takes for them to ripen, Bob gets 3/4 and I take the quarter, sprinkle with salt and put slices on unsalted saltines.  I am so proud of how I scooped out the whole inside to this one, even if the leftovers were trashed

I imagine a lot of us would be willing to take some of them off your hands. 😊

Good morning Sandra :=)

Those naughty squirrels and racoons do come in useful for some things. You couldn't eat
the delicious Avocados without them.

You did a great job of scooping! Wow, the inside is yellow! I guess that is because you guys have the big kind. We have the smaller ones that are green inside. I wonder how they taste different?

F is with the Cheerful Monk. Mr B thinks they are vile things that even the hogs should refuse to eat. There's an idea, perhaps you should use them to fatten a pig in a pen in your back yard. Xxx Mr T (I like pork.)

Oh yes, add me to the queue of avocado-wishers! To keep some avo for the next day, don't scoop the lot out. Just keep one half with the stone in it, quickly dab the cut surface with a dash of lemon or lime juice, then wrap in cling film to prevent air exposure. Depending on the age of the fruit, you may still get a little bit of browning, easily removed, but the majority of the flesh will be perfectly good. YAM xx

I find avocado quite queasy to eat personally. This is after many tries since it is considered as a healthy superfood.

Good job scooping. I wish I liked them but I just find them disgusting. I'm wondering though if it's because at the store, they store them in the cooler and when they put them out they are in a refrigerated case. Maybe it would taste better if it was straight off the tree.

Hello,
I would love some of your avocados, it looks yummy.
I have only seen them when they are green inside.
I would not want one falling on my head. Watch out below.
Have a great day!

I heard you can freeze avocado. . .

Like Jean said, I'd be delighted to take them off your hands! I love a fresh guacamole, but I'm not willing to pay what they're asking these days.

Is there, perhaps, a Community Food Bank that would be willing to come out and pick them?

I just can't get over how big those avocados are. Our store bought ones are tiny and so expensive.
Yumm, I love them in and on everything.

Wow!! I want to tell you that Amber did freeze avocadoes when the quads were infants. She mashed and froze them in ice cube trays and then dumped them in a gallon zip lock bag and used them for baby food. She did that with lots of stuff including cantaloupe and pineapple and more. I think she had a good blender because she made ALL her own baby food. This may account for why the kids have such advanced palates and eat such a wide variety of food.
I used to look at that bag of frozen avocadoes and think how eacy it would be to make a big bowl of guacamole!

I love avocados and eat them often. While nice, having a tree seems like a lot of work. But such huge avocados, do they taste the same as the smaller, store bought ones?

Gotta admit, I'm not a fan of avocados, maybe the squirrels and racoons aren't either and that's why they're bombarding you with them - They want something else! 😊

Way to go on eating the avocados. It's nice that you have them compared to buying them in the store like I have to.
