The Good Fight

You might remember I purchased new walking shoes a few days ago. They were comfy in the store but when walking, my toe that sticks up due to arthritis (see 1st right of collage), rubs the top off my toe.

This toe and the ankle on the other foot, are the reason I don't order shoes, I must try them ON.

I did try them on and there it is, if it can happen it will happen.
Fine in the store, fine on the house carpet, walk in the mud and they HURT.

I can't afford to put 50-dollar shoes away and not use them.
Make Do is What I did.

I purchased corn protectors, still hurt.
I added Bob's big and fat white socks, still hurt. (The socks are so ugly they are embarrassing)

I dug out the self-stick Velcro wrap thingy and
Now I walk Pain free because I
slide on the corn protector, wrap the two toes tightly, sock and shoe.

My Get Ready to Walk Beau Routine has an added 3 minutes for struggling to reach my toes,
and fighting the good fight of wrapping said toes
that causes my back to ache, pinches my stomach and ends with slobber and fur on my face from Beau poking and licking me saying Will You Get Ready, I want to Go.

I can now wear the shoes!

When we come home, I stuff a hand towel in the shoe while it's wet from all the rain and hope it will stretch the shoe. The other shoe is fine

Here is a photo of the wrap I can't remember the name of, and the plastic jail house it lived in is long gone with the name included on that dang plastic wrapper
and I hope the name meets up with my memory wherever it has gone.

NOW I need to figure out how to fit them in the BUDGET, until the shoe stretches.

Good luck! I often have to spend times rigging up my shoes so I can walk too. But I don't have an impatient pup trying to hurry me. 😊

You are so creative, and inventive when need be. You found a great solution, I would not have!

I have to rty shoes too and can not order them... so I try them in a store and look for the best online deal, but sometimes I have the same problem like you... I use two pairs of socks for the first time, so the sock starts to rub at the other sock and my toes are fine (mostly LOL)

Ace bandage? Hope this works each time. Sorry, I had to laugh at the slobber...

Oh you poor thing. There is nothing worse than shoes hurting when going for a walk. Hope your system works. I bought new shoes and one of them hurt my bunion. Luckily I found a new style bunion protector and with a sock it does the trick. There is a spray that shoe shops sell that helps stretch shoes.

I agree - shoes are hard to figure out! That is a lot of fixing - hope it works.

That sounds like an exhausting 3 minute addition to your routine. I bet Beau enjoys the slobber part though.

Hello,

I like to try on my shoes too, I have weird shapes feet and toes.
I have ordered a pair of Sketchers that fit well, they are comfy.
I hope your stretching trick works. Take care, enjoy your day!

I too have difficult feet when it comes to shoes... which is why I haven't bought any new ones for a decade. YAM xx

If it is not one thing, it is another. I hope the shoe stretches soon.

Hurray! If there's a solution, by hook or by crook the Mad Snapper's going to find it.
Last year(?) I bought my first pair of expensive (to me) tennis shoes - then nearly wept when I took them to the Village Green. Thankfully, after investing in new socks (Dry Fit) they became comfortable. But ya, I remember how distressed my mother would become. Never mind how well they fit in the store, every time she's experience pain. Moleskin and corn pads were a staple in her medicine cabinet.

I always buy shoes where I can try them on, and yet I often find it difficult to tell how they'll work out when actually walking more than a few steps in them... I was going to comment on your previous shoe-post but then let it be, because my comment would have been that they looked similar to a pair I bought a few years ago, thinking they'd be good for walking - but as it turned out, I found them too soft/bouncy for outdoors walks. Instead they've become (winter) indoors shoes, for when I want something more stable than slippers/sandals (like when climbing ladders or dragging the vacuum cleaner around (always at risk to run it over my own toes at some point)... Good thinking on your part though to protect the troublesome toe, I hope it works for you and that the shoe will become more comfortable with time.

That's why I have bought the same brand over the years but now they've quit making them. I'm in BIG trouble too!

Good for you to finally figure out a way to be more comfortable.
I have bunions and find that Mole Skin works wonders for me.
Never really comfy anyway...
You're talking about walking in the rain...We actually have a pretty good chance of some rain by Sunday evening. I sure hope it actually happens. The fires need to be stopped asap.
We are safe but the fires seem to rage on in the dry timber.

Necessity is the mother of invention and you found the invention. Great job and I'm glad your tootsies are the better for the extra protection.

I am like you, Sandra, and cannot buy shoes without trying them on, which is unfortunate as I often see what look like great deals online. But trying to save$ and then wind up with uncomfortable or sore feet is not fun. Too bad the pair you bought are less comfortable now, and hope that your solutions will mean you will eventually be able to wear them without having to do all the prep work. I have a similar pair that fit OK in the store and for a while later, but now feel too tight despite being the correct size and a wide width. I even paid a local shoe repair place to stretch them, but that hasn't worked long term. I still have them and may try wearing socks in them longer.

Hello Sandra,
My computer has been haywire this week, and my mouse didn't work, but thankfully everything is back to normal. There is nothing worse than shoes that rub on your toes. I usually buy a bigger size than I need, and then use inserts. This works for me, because like you I have deformed toes. Suede is more comfy than leather, but I buy my shoes from an orthopaedic shop. I'm glad you discovered a solution to ease the pressure on your toes. I hope your shoes will soon stretch.

Years ago I worked in a shoe shop. When the customer said that the shoe was pinching we would take the shoe around the corner and put the handle of a broom into the shoe, bend the shoe about on the end of the broom, take it back and it was always okay, lol. You could try that.
Just a suggestion, lol

I'm sorry to hear that you have had an issue with the shoes. Glad you found a solution for now. Hopefully they will stretch out at some point and you won't have to do that.

I hope it helps you. And you reminded me that I need to get something to wrap my toes in too. I have hammer toes and when I drive long distances which I've done a lot lately, my toes climb up on one another or try too. It's very annoying when driving on the freeway.

Hope you are doing well. I'm busy with my diagnosis. Tests and stuff.
