Alesandra and The Barber (circa 1985) FFF

  The Barber (circa 1985)

Sandra slammed the front door, making the doorknob bounce from the wall, entering the house while shouting, " I am so sick of that beautician never listening to how I want my hair cut.

One month it's great, the next month the bangs are so short I look like Julius Caesar! I mean how hard could it be to LEAVE THE BANGS touching my eyebrows?"

Pulling his eyes from the football game on TV, Bob, "you say this every month, why don't you listen to me and next time let me cut it? I have told you many times I cut Robby's hair his whole life." She answered, I am afraid to let you cut it, you have never had any training! He replied, the hairdressers you use are trained and per your ranting, never get it right. Next time we will try it. You have nothing to lose."

6 weeks later:

Samar says "I HAVE to get my hair cut! I have waited as long as I can stand it. You know I like my hair really short!

I can't even stand to think about an appointment because then I will be crying again about the bangs."

Bob answered, 'there is a beautician supply place down on 66th street, let's go there and see if they have scissors that will fit my thumb and finger. Sighing with aggravation, Sandra agreed and an hour later stood wrapped in a towel in the bathroom waiting to be scalped. Robert growled, Stand Still! Do you want me to cut your ear?"

Fifteen minutes later, he said "Done, now Look in the mirror and tell me if you like it!  Staring in the mirror she started to smile and laugh and hug Bob because it was the Best Haircut EVER!

She said I had my hair cut in this Sassoon Style in 1980 and it's never been as good as this!

She said no one will ever cut my hair again! Now its 2022 and no scissors have touched her hair without Bobs fingers in them since that first FREE haircut.

Now time has changed the 40-year-old into the stiff and old 78-year-old, and the hair is stiff and old, the barber is 86, stiff and old. Yes, he has cut the ear twice in those years, but never cut the bangs to short.

Nearly 200 haircuts in 38 years, if Samar paid him, he could buy her a new car!

Now they dream of what could have been if they had placed the cost of a haircut and tip in a piggy bank! or Wall Street!

38 years of Haircuts from 1985 top right to Now
photo number 6 is what happens when I let the hair get too long. Until 2006 when I retired, I curled the bangs, after retirement it became wash and fluff. The reason it has to touch the eyebrows is I have my dad HUGE forehead and it must be covered, lest I revert to Julius Ceasar Look A like.

I think this is not Friday fiction. It is Friday biography. And what a surprising and happy ending!! And your hair does look great. So does your new cute header!

Fabulous tale. My Dad used to cut my hair and all I learned from that was to be indifferent to my hairstyle as long as it doesn't touch my face (i seem to have hair that makes my face itch). Hairdressers struggle to understand how short SHORT really has to be. Your are blessed to have your stylist so handy to home. Xxx F

He does a great job. I can't imagine ever letting Wade cut my hair. Then again I can' imagine him ever offering. That would have been a good idea to put the cost of a cut in a jar and see how much you could save up.

What an excellent FFF offering!!! The first time I have heard you mention this - and I am impressed. Mac1 always cuts her own hair... and I have always had long hair, so always just cut off the ends myself to keep them tidy. Our younger sib, Mac2, spends ridiculous sums for getting her hair done... YAM xx

Hello Sandra,
Great story. Bob does a great job, I have cut my own bangs. and I have hubby trim the back my hair. Women pay so much more than men to have their hair cut, it doesn't seem right. Take care, have a happy day!

Love this! How fortunate you are!
Gosh, if I had a dollar for every awful hair cut experience I'd be sitting in high cotton. Credit where credit's due, I think these stylists were all trained to work on those ladies with silky, perfect hair like one sees on the cover of Cosmopolitan magazine. Then when I show up, they probably say a prayer and wish I'd gone elsewhere. Now I'm wondering if there aren't more of "us" ... wouldn't this make a hilarious stage play?

I wear bangs for the very same reason Sandra...high forehead but I read somewhere a high forehead was the sign of intelligence. I guess I'm a late blooming intellect.

I have bangs to cover up my very low forehead. I cut them myself except for when I go to my rare hairdresser visits. Sometimes I mess up but it's not the end of the world.

So are you saying he cuts your entire head of hair and not just the bangs? I would never ever let my husband cut the rest of the hair - bangs yes - hair no.

Now that's quite a saga of the haircut I knew Bob did your hair but I love the story of why.
I cut my own hair for the in between times after my perms. I'm way passed due for a perm but I don't have the extra moola right now so what you see is what you get. Straight thin hair. Thank heavens for the curling iron and a little moouss.
Its pouring today. Lucky me going to eldercare...
The backyard is beginning to flood a bit and one of our 2 utility pumps has decided to give up the ghost. Thankfully Amazon Prime will deliver a new one tomorrow. The weather predictions are for intense rain Sunday and thru next week so hopefully this new one will keep us above "flood stage". Thankful for Amazon coming right to our door. Seems there is always something wanting our money.
