MAILBOX

Hurricane Milton broke the post and hurled the mail box against the tree, and
Bob removed the box, sat it on the stump that the bobcat removed.
We were getting mail in it on the stump, that now resides at the curb waiting for pickup.
When the stump left I sat the box on the bench by the front door, and we missed 8 days of mail. We live in a community that has walking door to door mail persons, and  the boxes are like the new one, on the wall at the front door.
The box on the post was put there when we got Jake, because he was tearing up the window and blinds everytime the mail person walked on the porch. The mailman just without comment, started putting it in the new box

In my new role of  Pioneer Woman,  I ordered the box and heavy tape to mount it on the wall, and since our walls are concrete block and I am unable to screw a screw into a concrete wall.

Clever was not the word, since the lid would not open or allow the box to glue to the wall, because the lid stuck out for 1/9 inch. I noticed the paint stirrer was exactly the size of the lip overhang taped it to the back and then to the wall.

TA DA! I said to Bob who doubted I could do it.

Next morning I checked on it and it was on the porch floor!
how do I undo TA DA!? DA TA?

Later that day Bob went out in the garage, and hammered and drilled and
gave me an hour of peace in the house and
the next thing I knew he had found a way to screw it to the concrete.
Ta Da! for Bob. The lid opened and the flag went up.

I am signed up on USPS.com and receive an email every day of scanned mail that will arrive that day. We were missing 8 pieces of mail, and one was the water bill, the only one that is a paper bill. Clever again, I looked it up on the city water sight and paid the bill. I went to USPS.com and logged in, and  20 minutes later, fouund the way to report the missing mail and sent them the notice.

I received an 3 emails, and the 3rd one said, you must replace any mail box that is destroyed in the same place it was when it was destroyed.
I answered and said our mail box was away where this one is, but due to a dog that hated the mail man, we put it on the corner about 10 feet away from our door, that the dog died and we wanted it back where it was, just like every house in our neighborhood. we are the only one not by the door.
They replied with the same message.

I had an aha moment I cut down the bush so the box was in plain sight, put a card with a stamp on it, lifted the red flag and Voile! .
He picked it up.
Next day I got an email that said I must come get the mail or put the box back where it was or she would send the mail  back to senders.
I replied, we got our mail in the box on the wall yesterday. Thank you.

I wanted to say, Lady, don't make me come down there, I will be riding on my broom and I am already on a warpath because of 2 hurricanes and LIFE ISSUES.
PS: the stump is still at the curb, can someone come drag it back where it was and I will nail the old bent box on top of the stump. so there USPS
The mail has been coming and being dropped in the new box and I am happy for that because the POSTMISTRESS writing the emails, sounded like she was going to stop our mail if I did not put it back where it was.

Wow! What a stupid rule and emails! Especially after a hurricane! I'm glad the fellow delivering has more compassion and sense.

Good grief, what a fuss she made! People have gone thru so much with the hurricane, you would think they would be more understanding.

Not something that the British would have to contend with... All our mail comes THROUGH the door! There are plenty of folk we call "jobsworths" though... ie 'Its more than my job's worth to think outside the box.' YAM xx

Yamini is right - mail in Britain is posted through the letterboxes on our front doors. The rule regarding putting up replacement mail boxes sounds frustrating after the damage caused by the hurricanes. The lady wasn't sympathetic at all, which didn't help. Your blog friends are thinking of you as you contend with all these difficulties. So glad you, Bob and Beau are safe and doing your best to get through the aftermath of the hurricanes.

How totally stupid that the mail box has to be in the same place as it was before. So long as it's visible to the carrier what's the difference. I'm glad you finally started getting your mail again.

You Gettum' Girl! What a grumpy woman! You need to invite her to the house so she can see where all mailboxes are!
