Our Baby Pineapple

Once upon a time, last summer in fact, my hubby planted in a 5 gallon bucket, the top I cut off the fresh pineapple.
Click on OUR BABY to see why we call it our baby. If you want the whole story, go to labels on side bar.
We had no idea when to cut it, and it turned bright yellow a few days ago. I said it was ready, Hubby said wait. Yesterday, at 6:30 am, i notice it had flopped over on its side. I picket it up with tips of fingers by top knot and if fell off the plant and rolled to the ground.
I said to hubby "ya think tis ready?"
First I snapped it sitting on counter

Then in the bowl with the one I bought at the store for this week.

You can tell the lighting is not all that good in the first two photos, so I waited a few hours and started The Process of Eating Our Pineapple. Above photo is The Set Up.

While hubby hovers, I make the first cut, taking off the end

Next, off comes the top knot

See the pretty slices? on the right are the outsides I cut off, and the top knot.
"Scrumdelicious"
I must say hubby was not very patient, while I documented the surgical procedure. I placed it here, I placed it there, and if I posted all the shots I took, you would be here all day and miss your other blogs.

Can you guess what hubby did with THIS?????
coming SOON, as in TOMORROW
The Rest Of The Story

PS. it was as sweet as eating sugar. Much sweeter than the bought kind. Juice ran down our chins, all of them... ha ha

I'm guessing he re-planted it? I would not even know how to do that, just bury it up to the greenery? How pretty, was it part of your breakfast? But wait! I want to know how it tasted compared to a supermarket one, any difference? Was it jucier?

Wonderful to have a home-grown pineapple. And to be so sweet! Makes me want to try one, but I think it would be too cold in the winter here. I've forgotten how long it took to grow. All I can say is great for you and hubby. Oh, I know what he did with the top - seems he can grow anything!

My taste buds are twanging! Looks delicious! How long does it take for it to grow to maturity? I know Hubby can grow anything and that he will be planting the top today! Have you got any avacodos planted? I am seeing them in the stores. He grows them from seeds too, doesn't he? Yall enjoy!

Very clever! I'm not the best pineapple connoisseur in the world. In other words, I like it but I wouldn't go to the store especially to buy it. But when I was in Hawaii, I did the tour thing at the Dole Pineapple Plantation and then we got samples. Cannot describe how good that pineapple was. It was way sweeter than any I've ever tasted.

Hope yours was too.

That is one juicy story! I'm tempted to try planting a pineapple top but would have to bring it in for the winter and that might make a difference.

Best,
Bonnie

I'm guessing Hubby planted the top in another container so you can enjoy twice as many pineapples in the future.
This sounds as if the pineapple was absolutely delicious. I guess the wait was worth it.

Hi Sandra, As I read about the juice running down your chins, I could almost taste that wonderful pineapple... SO glad it was delicious.... Hope you get lots more in your yard in the future...

I assume your hubby is going to plant that.... Don't know if that is what you do or not---but if it is, you may have ANOTHER pineapple tree (or is it a bush) in your yard... WOW!!!!!

Have a wonderful day.... Congrats for getting your first pineapple.... YEAH!!!
Hugs,
Betsy

Friut from one's own is always the best. Time to grow another I guess. You just taught me how the process goes. All I need is the right sunlight to make it happe but I don't want to move again.

Yum, that looks so juicy and delicious. As soon as you cut the top off I was wondering if your hubs would plant it. Does the first plant continue to grow? I wonder if I could plant on here in the summer!

I tried to comment, reloaded the page and still could get through (my phone)..it does that sometimes? Sooo, I'm sitting up straight- in front of my computer (lol)! These look really yummy and tropical! I'd love to take a bite too. My guess is he plopped it in the ground!
