My Mothers Food Processor

This wooden bowl and the chopper that went with it, was the object of my envy for years. I wanted it. Mother had it, she got it from her mother. Now, I have it.

I watched my grandmother and then my mother use this Ancient version of today's food processor.
When mother died in 1990, I brought the food processor home with me. I love it.

the good news is.... I used it to chop apples and pecans for my cranberry salad.

the bad news is.... I found my mothers hand holding the chopper for my self portrait.

today in Our Daily Bread the subject is Thank God for Music  by Julie Ackerman Link
this quote is from the devotion, to read it all click on the link above.

Music plays a big part in the Bible. From Genesis to Revelation, God enlists musicians to work on His behalf. He uses music to call people to worship and to send them to war, to soothe ragged emotions and to ignite spiritual passion, to celebrate victories and to mourn losses.

Ah, you and i are on the same wave length...I find myself looking at my hand fairly often and thinking they look like mom's or Aunt Luddy who lived next door...not really an aunt and her name was Lilly but the kids called her Aunt Luddy....that is what she called herself to them. I often wished I had taken a picture of her hands.

That looks like it would chop everything perfectly. I love those old wooden bowls and wish I had the one my grandmother used.

I was looking at my hands the other day and thought the same thing. But when you consider we do most everything with our hands they have held up rather nicely through the years.

Wonderful treasures!

My sis and I were discussing our hands recently. She has developed arthritis in her hands just like mother's.

that looks great, it would almost chop everything i think.

if something belonged to my grandma and/or mother always would make me happy to get it.

Those choppers have a special name. I can't remember it. I think they come from The Inuit people way back in ancient times.

I think there must be an epidemic because my mothers hand has been seen coming out the end of my sleeve lately and I don't like it. :)
I do like your food processor though.

THat looks like a good combination. Our new gadgets are not all that perfect, except of course the computer. LOL.AS for the hands,my fingers are becoming more like Mom's all the times the arthritis is setting in.Ah,the blessings of music,it is refreshment to the soul.

I think the hands age first..I guess because we use them so much...Hubby and I were talking about that the other day....when did our hands start looking old???the eye sight started going first...hmmmm maybe so we don't notice all the other stuff so much...

That looks like a great tool and very handy and simple indeed. They had such simple household helpers in the past, and to see it still works perfectly is great :)
Have a lovely Sunday!

I think when things are made by hand instead of machines, there's more love put into it - no?

Love your Food Processor. It reminds me of my Mother in Law's. I think that era did the same thing. I do have her wooden bowl but it's somehow gotten relegated to the back of the cupboard. Thanks for reminding me of it. Guess its time to clean the cupboard and find it.

Oh my goodness, do you really have your mother's hand? What a startling discovery, mixed emotions!! Both good and bad...What a cool way though to use the processor and think of your mom. Do you remember all the things she used it for and make any of them yourself? I have things from my mom, but I can't think of any kitchen ones, she was a career person, so not too big on cooking.

I have my dad's (shape of) hands rather than my mum's. But smaller!

Your bowl and chopper is really cool. Every time you use it I'm sure you think of your mother and grandmother. I think that it's so special that you have it.
The cranberry salad sounds yummy.
I know what you about the hands. I don't like it one bit.:(
I put lotion on mine a lot!

Cool bowl/food processor. Sometimes the most basic tools easily beat new fangled technology

Understand completely about the hands! But how fortunate we are that they work so hard for us.

This is a great tool, certainly much better than some modern foo processors!

Oh I so know what you mean - how and when does it happen?? I look in the mirror and i look different now - I see my mother. I hear my mother. I also say things like her! And you know - it's really okay. I miss her.

Beth says that happens to her all the time....she has her great grandmother's spinning wheel that still spins nicely. She remembers fondly seeing her great grandmother sitting in her yarn spinning....the wheel is over 145 years old....

Your "food processor" is a treasure!!
I see my dad's hands when I look at mine. It's all good though, it's just part of life.

I really like your food processor. I doubt that a modern one could do as well.

That is AWESOME! I've never seen a food processor like that before. I'm so glad that you are now the proud owner of it and that you are using it! That makes it more special that you are using it then sitting it on a shelf to look at!

I love your processor, I wish I had one like it. I know what you mean about the hands. Sometimes I look at mine and wonder who they belong to! Those wrinkles and age-spots can't be mine!!

I like your food processor very much! Sure saves on electricity and is also a lot easier to clean than the more modern versions. :)
