Gadgets Yada Yada Yada

Kindle Gadget

I LOVE LOVE LOVE MY KINDLE and thanks to Rose at Pics and Pieces who emailed me links for free books, I am madly browsing and downloading free books. I bought a cover for it, thanks to Mildred at Maple Lane who emailed me a link for that. (the PROBLEM IS, every day the newsletter comes and I find a book I just HAVE to read, and this thing only holds 1400 books.. I now have 7 of my own and 1 library)

Shocker was when I saw the bar on the bottom of the page saying 75 % read, I looked to see how many pages were left and it said 3324 of 4431... YIKES I am reading a book that has 4431 pages?   just think if this was printed ,I would not be able to hold it.

Flash drives, better known as portable life savers. Just plug it in and add your word docs, spread sheets, photos and take it where you want it, plug and play.

We keep all our important papers in a silver box that we are to grab if we have to flee the house because of fire, famine, flood or storms. it is heavy.

I took photos of every single thing in the house, just snap snap snap and put them in a folder named HOUSE PICS (original don't you think?).
I keep the flash drive with all the pics and papers in the silver box and that way we will have  a record of everything.
The best place to keep this would be a safety deposit box. If your house was demolished would you remember everything that was in it?
NO CHARGE FOR THIS INFO, It is FREE from ME to YOU.

Do you use flash drives or gadgets? what kind and for what? I might find one I don't have yet.

I am strongly considering getting a kindle, just to bring on the train or tram and it's so easy to bring and take very little space. Glad you like it =)
I was never a gadget freak before, but since I've been working at Apple I have become one hehe But wouldn't say I have too many, only the ones that I need. But still there are things I would want to have.
Have a great weekend!

I had a feeling you would fall in love with the Kindle. I am still looking at the new HD one but haven't decided yet. I have the Kindle reader on my phone and love it. The only thing I don't like is the page thing, it seems to get carried away with the pages sometimes.

We have a half dozen or so flash drives around here. They never had enough space so I got a 500GB one that is still portable.

For my main back-up I have a "My Book Essential" external hard drive. I also have a couple of 500 GB ones for extra backup of photos, and a couple of flashdrives for more temporary use.

I too back things up on flash drives. I actually prefer the smaller storage ones because I'm afraid if one ever crashes I will have lost too much info. So I back things up on two separate ones so that way I have a backup and a backup of the backup! Of course they're all laying on my desk! Duh! And I don't back my pictures up nearly as often as I should!

How many pages? What are you reading, "War and Peace"?

I have photos of the valuable things--some furniture, art and jewelry--in the safety deposit box at the bank.
I don't even know how to use a zip drive. I need a tutorial.

Best,
Bonnie

I need to do that with the house pics...and garage pics...it would be hard to get a picture of EVERYTHING but I could do the major stuff. Have been meaning to do that forever...I don't use flash drives much...I do have two external hard drives and back up my pics on both.

i use an external hard drive to save all of my photos to. i know that could crash.

Thank you Sandra for all your wonderful information! Do you like Sherlock Holmes - all his books are free too and the Bible. My husband had one - it's burnt out now - but he loved it.

I do the same thing with the daily email I get from pixels of ink. I have a huge supply of books waiting for me to read and I never spent a cent on any of them. With the kindle if you happen to fill it up you can always remove things from the device and it still stays in your cloud. That way if you ever want to read something again you just download it back on to your kindle.

I have a portable hard drive for back-up of all my documents and pics etc. but I've never thought of taking photos of household items in our UK home and storing them on it.

Happy to hear you love your kindle! Thanks for the helpful tips, too. We had done this at the old house, but have yet to snap pics of our stuff in this house!

Mom has all my pictures (all 3000) of them on a flash drive. Thus far she doesn't have too many books on her iPad she loves to hold and smell real books
Happy soggy saturday

Flash drives and e-books are fabulous inventions. There's no doubt about that!

The idea of taking photos of what's inside your home is a great one, Elaine. I started an inventory list years ago, but fell behind and so maybe this post will spur me to return or at least think about doing that. Flash drives are handy and I usually carry a couple in my computer case for when we travel and I need pics for future blog posts. I used to buy lots more gadgets but have cut way back. Now download all the available free apps. Grenville enjoys reading books in his iPad through Kindle, but I have yet to start. Glad you are enjoying yours so much.

i was about to purchase an external hard drive to save my photos to, but after reading your post i realized how helpful your tips are. flash drives sound great!
thank you.

i love how well organized you are my friend!

I need to follow your example with snap snap snapping the home pix and putting on a flash drive.

I like my kindle too. Some of the free books I have enjoyed. Some I can't stand more than a paragraph or two!

Great ideas! I have an e-reader but it is a "generic" brand, B&W, not a Kindle but I love it just the same.

I use flash drives and archive EVERYthing via photos and scanning. Since I am preparing for RV living, this has also helped me get rid of a lot of sentimental things because I can digital scrapbook them. ;)

After crashing an external hard drive that had served as my back-up, I now pay a service that backs up my computer (same as a company network). I chose Carbonite but there are many out there. Privacy was a concern, but it is totally worth the peace of mind, to me.

The world has changed so much and after our fire experience I no longer care about some of these safety issues for docs. They seem to be replaceable svn if originals are gone. Just need a lawyer and some $.
Digital stuff is readily shared so I have no idea how it's safe. i think our generation has accepted tech without a plan for understanding how it works. We just use it.
I cannot read from any screen for long periods. My eyes won't let me.
