Mad Mad MadSnapper

Photo's taken by Diane, Jungle Gardens, 2008.... found in Archives. I assume this means I have always been MAD.

Diane is the person responsible for helping me get rid of my fear of birds. This was the first bird I ever got close to. Until we started hunting bird photos together, my fear was out of all bounds.

My fear came from a Rooster attack at age 2 and a Turkey gobbler attack at age 8, and a goose attack at age 12.

I can understand why the fear set in. I remember a farm up the road from us in Idaho in childhood. You learned not to set foot in their yard because they had geese and they were so dang mean.

Brave girl. A friend of mine long ago had a parrot who was not exactly friendly to strangers either!

I grew up with birds as my Dad had an aviary full of canary, budgie and finches, he used to breed them.
We had a beautiful pet budgie when we first married called 'Pete'. We taught him to talk and he was free from his cage. One day we had an estate agent call, a big burly man and he was absolutely terrified of this tiny bird and wouldn't come right in until we put Pete back in his cage. Maybe he had had an experience like you, it just didn't add up with him being so big and all.

I applaud your getting over your fear. But you certainly had good reason to fear!

But isn't it a wee bit over and beyond the call of duty, to let those big talons sit on your ARM?????

-grin-

LOL Mad Snapper...mom has a picture of herself at Jungle Gardens way back when she was a little girl. She says it might even be the same bird. You know they live forever!! MOL
Good for you conquering a fear after 3 incidents.

The sound of birds wings can give me the willies.
I had a robin fly at me and attack my cheek when I was in High School. I must have been too close t her nest or something.
Love hummingbirds but that whirr just sends chills down my spine.
I'm glad to looked your fear right in the eyes and have the pictures to prove it.

Funny photo and story because I had a friend's parrot bite me between my eyes as it was sitting on the top of the couch. It bled like crazy too. Funny how now I one of my favorite things to photograph are birds!

Holy smokes, all those bird attacks in one childhood. You've gotten over your fear quite nicely and you and that bird look very chummy

I have a healthy respect for Macaws... I have an African Grey Parrot, who can really hurt me when he wants... a Macaw, well, I think they could break a finger!

Very nice photos. Congrats on getting over the fear of birds. That must have been horrible when you were young.

Sounds like you had a lot of reason to be afraid of birds.

I am always leary of geese....

Wow! Reason to fear!. I still have a scar on my lip from a rooster attack when I was 5.

Wow! I wonder why so many birds have attacked you. I'm so glad you are not afraid of birds now.

You look great with that sweet big baby on your arm; you need one of those in your home to give you sweet birdie kisses. The Hyacinth Macaw has one of the strongest beaks, it can crack a Brazil nut like it’s a toothpick. I love those birds but the beak scares me.

Hope your day is a good one.
