Randomosity #3

Summertime means Umbrellas, Cook outs and Back yard pools.

and a Hubby climbing up to fire my camera  over the privacy fence.
Our mosquito population is out of control... this pool is the reason.I used my trusty googlese talents and found the house is in foreclosure..

To report this problem, we must allow the county to come inspect our property first.. no govt. inspectors wanted here....

now we are thinking of sneaking over there and throwing chlorine in the pool... BUT... there are a gazillion FROGS in that pool... LOUD ones.

Do you think there is a law against chlorinating someone's  abandoned pool? or murdering dozens of frogs with chlorine?

That is a shame about the pool.

Hope you both have a good day.

Can you get in touch with the foreclosure entity/realtor and ask that something be done? I love your header!
Have a good weekend even if it is filled with mosquitos and croaking frogs.

Best,
Bonnie

Oh man! Why would they have to inspect your yard first? That doesn't even make sense. Government rules :(

There must be something you can do. A pool like that breeding zillions of mosquitoes is a menace for disease. Won't the city even address it? Yuk.

We agree that no inspectors would be wanted in our yard...or needed to address someone else's negligence and lack of foresight. Did the owners think a pool filled with mosquitoes and frogs would be a better selling point than an empty pool? Not sure about the rules against poisoning frogs, but definitely mosquitoes must go with no sympathy extended.

It's a shame about the neighbor's pool..I know what it's like to have unkempt yards next door. Not pleasant!I'll pray you have wisdom to know what to do.

I feel bad that you have to endure the large population of mosquitoes. Can't even enjoy your own yard. I hope you find a solution.

Hope you can get this resolved soon. Mosquitoes are more than just pesky anymore.

That wouldbe big trouble for my MOM, she is rather allergic to mosquitoes. I say get a net take out the frogs, relocate them then chlorine away.

Goose

I know there is no law here, we had that at the old property where the house was abandon for a few years and the pool looked liked what is in this picture. We did call the county extension agency and they sent someone over to throw in these hocky puck disc that kill all bugs in the water. I wonder if you could just go and get some mosquito killer and throw it in the pool as this is a health hazzard to both humans and animals. Kids could fall in the pool or pets too. If you state it that way to the county maybe they would do something where your property does not have to be involved or inspected?

BOY, how much chlorine would you have to pour in that pool? Hum, I know frogs here are not on the endagered list so killing them is okay here but in your area??? I dont know. Maybe they would smell the chlorine and go some place else.

When I lived in Phoenix the City took care of abandoned pools to keep the mosquito population down. They were too worried about an outbreak of West Nile. Too bad your city or county government can't pass an ordinance to take care of these problems.

oh, that's terrible about the neighboring pool. but i'd not want to think of those poor frogs!!!

I think I would call the foreclosure people...that is a health hazard...I wouldn't want them snooping at my place either...love that truck...Hotrod would go nuts!!

Rose said...

Oh, that would be horrible to kill the frogs...but then the mosquitos are as horrible or more so...don't know about regulations...

Why does the county have to inspect your property first? Sounds like a strange rule to me!

MS GREAT RANDOMOSITIES...
AS IF YOU NEED SOMETHING ELSE TO ENTICE SKEETERS THIS TIME OF YEAR.
NO I WOULD NOT WANT THE GOV ON MY PROPERTY EITHER.....BUT IT WOULD APPEAR THE SKEETER SITUATION WOULD BE OF CONCERN TO THEM W/O BOTHERING OTHERS. POOR FROGS BUT POOR YOU CANNOT ENJOY YOUR OUTSIDE DUE TO THE DANGER OF TOO MANY SKEETERS BITING.
THIS IS A NO WIN SITUATION.
HUMMERS EAT SKEETERS...MAYBE PUT UP SOME FEEDERS NEAR THAT FENCE.

Do you think the best thing would be to leave it alone and ask the county inspector to come over? Do the mosquitoes stay over there where the bad water is, or do they come over to your yard as well? I think you should call someone and explain the health hazard. Someone from the city should just drain it, it is green and awful. Your first pretty picture is the whole essence of Summer all in one picture. It really does speak a thousand words. The twisted Hibiscus is WILD!!! I have never seen a bloom do this...I assume it is coming and n0t going...do they all do this?

Linda P said...

I sympathise as one mosquito can be devastating let alone millions around a stagnant pool in a built up neighbourhood. I hope the authorities will also be sympathetic to this health hazard and something can be done. The sun umbrella is a cheerful sight and the twisted hibiscus is weird.

I am sure you will find a creative way to solve this problem.

That is a shame....seem's like they would have to keep a cover over the pool for safety to keep from a accidental drowning of a neighbor kid or something. I hope you can get the mosquito problem resolved soon with out a hassel.

I suppose the frogs help curb the mosquito population, but have you ever considered becoming a bat farmer? ;-)

That neighbors pool would drive me crazy. I hope something can be done about it. That's just wrong. We have some new neighbors next door with some young boys. We live on this view lot and we are now noticing trash down the hillside....this has to be stopped! It is not a garbage dump.

DawnTreader said...

I love the colourful umbrella in the first photo! But "ouch" on the mosquitoes... Nasty little things! One might think the frogs would eat the mosquitoes, though...???

Susannah said...

Hi Sandra...I'd say ...call the foreclosure people but I bet you are not going to get very far. What a nuisance but also a terrible scare. ....with West Nile Virus and everything. Hope someone comes and straightens it out for you. Jim would probably go over with about 4 gallons of chlorine....doing the neighborly thing, you see!

That's really too bad about the pool. Seems like you don't have a good alternative there. Hey, congrats on winning the thing from Chatty Crone!

Chatty Crone said...

Seriously you need to do something - can you unplug it? If you do do something wear plastic gloves and go there at night! That is awful!

Ann said...

what a shame about that pool. It doesn't make sense to me though that the county would have to inspect your property before they will look into the problem in the abandoned yard. Crazy government rules

Great photography!I love the colors of your blog too!

Love the colorful umbrella photo!
That pool looks so gross! You need some bats. :) I bet the frogs are livin' it up though. lol

What a shame about the house...and that you need to put up with those skeeters. If you have good aim, you good throw mosquito rings in the pool. When the larvae eats it they die!

Love the new header.

If you get rid of the mosquitos the frogs will move on. Also, if there is any kind of pool pump. Mosquitos won't lay eggs in moving water.

Oh that house/pool next door is horrible. Isn't there something you can do? Does someone live there? Can you contact the owners? It's horrible... So sorry that you have that nasty place near to you....

I laughed at your comment about the hibiscus doing gymnastics... ha ha (Good One)
Hugs,
Betsy

The threat of West Nile virus is very real.
There are always public service announcements about getting rid of standing water.
I think it's a health hazard which isn't good for you or the community.
Don't know why your property would have to be inspected first but something needs to be done quickly.
I do love the other shot of summer time and the happy umbrella.

I would say execute guerilla chlorination, Just research whether stinky decaying dead frogs would keep you indoors as much as skeeters!

Sad to hear about the abandoned pool, must be so annoying though.
