Lamp Alert

Alert! when purchasing a lamp, the first thing you should do is think about when the dust gathers on it, how hard will it be to remove said dust...

As I struggled to get in between the twisted wires, I thought, I need to warn my blogger buddies about buying the wrong lamps. In an A HA moment, I grabbed the camera..... the top right photo is the only one I INTENDED to take, Just ONE for an example...

Can you guess what happened next? Think Camera In MadSnapper's Hand... that is your clue.

Lamp Art! what else?

and if I could rearrange the alphabet, I would put U and I together....

You have elevated the lamp to a new level! Love the photos, and all you need is a feather duster type tool (or learn to live with dust, which is my typical response). Beautiful lamp. (Your header puts me in such a festive mood, and I haven't even drunk all my coffee yet.) lol

Oh MS
Mom surely knows what you mean!!!
And as she has often said had she know years ago she was going to be owned by two cats with totally white tummies she would have decorated differently....but we learned
a little cat hair spreads a lot of love.

OK, Call me Heloise!!! I use a soft bristled paint brush for dusting hard to get at places. I keep the paint brush with my dusting cloth. Works great!!!!

You are so right. I have a cowboy figurine with lots of nooks and crannies and I can spend an hour cleaning it. Those little swiffer dusters get some of the dust but just can't get it all. The lamp photos are so cool!

Sandra, you come up with the most amazing ideas for posting.
Love your red lamp shade, it would go perfectly with my decor :)

that last one is nicely edited!

good morning sandra, love your red lamp shade. i always use a feather duster...feather dusters are great at getting in small and irregular spaces, making them good at dusting shelves without having to move everything.

Keep on having fun when that camera jumps into your hand. LOL I guess I should be walking around the house looking for things to photograph as it is too COLD to do so outside.

I have similar lamps and the same problem! I often think of using the air spray used for cleaning computers...I even bought it. But I haven't tried it.

a great reminder...sometimes we don't think a head when we see something that is so pleasing to the eyes...not always easy to keep clean...great shots...

Really good shots of the interior. I like the soft light inside the lamp.

The last one is my favorite! Is the lamp red? It is it's own Christmas decoration! Here is another big tip to give everyone. The stupid shades!!! I go nuts over the shades. And when you find a new lamp, it usually comes with the wrong shade! Our new big end table lamps...the shades are too short! They expose the pole that the bulb holder is on. There is a rule for picking shades and one of the rules is that have to be long enough so you only see the lamp base, and none of the fixtures. And worse than your pretty spiral is this...many shades are a think fabric, and you cannot clean the dust off them without vacuuming or scrubbing with a wet paper towel. And don't get me STARTED about the ones with the little deep pleats all around them, you have to get into each one with a makeup brush or paint brush!!! I will never get one of those again! Gosh, you have got me so riled up that I am mad and breathless.

Cool shots! I do think about how dust when I'm looking at stuff. My house stays dusty and we have two ac returns and keep the filters clean. I guess with three and half dogs, a cat and our big oak tree over the house in all contributes to it. I dust weekly but the dust returns in one day!

I love how you play with your camera. You have a super imagination.

My lack of ambition related to removing dust expeditiously makes me long for a more streamlined environment. I suspect the only approach that may work for us is that when something wears out, stops working or falls apart , out it goes and it won't be replaced. Oops! That could describe me. Hope Hubby considers me an exception! A fun post!

Thanks for the heads up on the lamp. Incidentally, to answer your question, the deer tracks on my post are real.

Back in my youth when I had my own house cleaning business, I learned about all kinds of items I would never own. lol But now you just put it all in a very different perspective as "Photographic Art".
As long as I don't have to clean it. lol

Yep! That one would be in the next yard sale. It's good looking but is that all there is??? Nice lamp shots!

Oh yes, I think about those things now. Took me long enough. I don't do pleated lamp shades anymore, either. They are the pits to clean. Cool lamp shots!

I do think of how easy something will be to dust...no matter what I am buying...not that I do much dusting. I used to, but I swear it is a never ending battle.

Love this - you know from all the lamps I have bought I have never thought about how easy it would be to dust them - maybe that is my problem!! I sure will look at buying lamps differently now. sandie

I love your artistic photos of the lamp especially the second one. I use a Swiffer duster for stuff like the lamp. If that doesn't get everything including all the cat hair at the bottom I fire up the air compressor and blow it all out. Works great!

To get at the dust easily use one of those air spray bottles used to clean a keyboard. Air coming out is quite powerful so cover your face if needed.

I really like your lamp art, but then I like everything you do once you get a camera in your hand!

Even if it is hard to 'dust'---I love that lamp…. When we visited my childhood home in Virginia in October, the people who live in that home now have stuff EVERYWHERE… That home looked like a show-place with nick-nacks and lots of stuff all over the place… ALL I could think about was how in the world would anyone DUST all of that stuff…. ha ha

Hugs,
Betsy

I could not find one tiny speck of dust in those pictures!

(I know you probably cleaned them first!) I do admire the pictures!

Good post.

Did you hear they are doing away with regular light bulbs soon and we will be into the money saving ones. I hope they do save tons...that is after we pay the mega price for bulb in the beginning. Just a thought about lamps!

You sure are living up to the name of your blog. Thanks for the warning. I hate the way that dust seems to get cooked onto the lamp shade.

I love that lamp :)and yes it seems like there can be some dust piling up there. Btw...I received my camera but I had to reorder it from Amazon and they never fail to deliver lol!
Have a great day!

This is exactly why most of my antiques are in boxes today- I hate to dust. Ranks right up there with ironing! LOL Love your lamp art!

I never before thought of that when buying a lamp but it would certainly be worth it to check that out the next time. I like the red shade on your lamp. Hugs

Business Phone Service have a number of problems that need to be worked out before they open the doors. Sometimes the ones that pose the biggest problems are not the big ones, as they usually make the checklists that every business owner seems to be given at some point. Rather, it is the small ones, the ones that few people think about, that create the biggest problem.

Your lamp art is great! The angle of the shots makes the lamp look like something really old fashioned.
