Raccoon-amania part 2

After 2 hours of love making, the male above is resting, can you say exhaustion?

After a little research, I found , they can live for 20 years,

they deliver in 63 days and babies open their eyes at 3 weeks.

By my calculations they should arrive  on June 6 and eyes open June 21.

OH PLEASE little Bandits, do not make your home in our yard...I do hope the babies open their eyes and do NOT see my yard..

Raccoon have hands like humans, and can open any and everything and are very destructive. They love to swim...

OH NO... have they been having a pool party at night? am I swimming in raccoon water?

I was in snap happy mode, they got tired of it and wandered off up the tree...

Although the babies would be very cute, I'm sure you DON'T want them in your own yard. :))

You have gotten some fantastic shots. Just look at those teeth!!!

I can just see them waiting for you two to go to bed so the pool party can begin!

I suggest you stay up tonight and capture their pool party. They probably invite every raccoon in the neighborhood. Do raccoons drink beer??

Best,
Bonnie

We have 'possums in our yard at night. Dunno which would be worse. The plus of the 'possums is they eat ants and cockroaches which there are over populations of both in Texas.

Cute photos tho.

Yeah, for your sake I hope too that they don't take up permanent residence. Love that header photo, btw. And we always get raccoons if we plant sweetcorn. They come along at night just when it's getting ripe and take one or two bites out of every single ear of corn. But before they eat it, they wash it off in the little pond - or a kiddie pool - or in your case, a big pool. So you can expect little muddy pawprints around your pool and crumbs of whatever it is they want to wash off to eat. Good luck.

LOL I doubt very much we'd want them in our garden either. Do they make a racket? The foxes over here do and mainly in the wee hours too. Have a terrific Tuesday.
Best wishes Molly

Hmmmm I wonder where they build their nest for the babies. Like you said, some other yard. I love daddy raccoon lounging on the branch.

Party animals, for sure!

Oh! I hope your yard doesn't become a racoon haven! Although those babies ARE cute!!

Love these photos! I wouldn't have been able to stop until they left. I'm sure they have a den somewhere for their home, your tree was just a romantic spot. :)

They are interesting animals, but I'm with you. I would hope they find someplace else to live. Great series of raccoon photos, btw.

these are so good!! they are gorgeous!
I saw my first humming bird yesterday! I've got to get the feeder up!

I really do hope they don't take up residence at your place. A neighbor or Sarah's had $5-7000 worth of damage to their home due to raccoons getting in their attic. Though I don't know how they did not realize they were there before that.

Your photos are awesome Sandra. I wonder if you'll wake up to a lot of partying going on in your pool when the babies start learning how to swim ;) Yes I know, let's hope not!!!

I am all alone, and cackling like crazy!! Raccoon pool party!! The first thing I thought before I read anything was the one word:exhaustion! BUT wouldn't it be divine to snap and snap cute little baby racoons? On the other hand, you may need to buy a padlock for your garbage dumpster...

Great shots of these masked bandits. We had a pond at our LA house and, after they ate up all the fish, they did indeed have pool parties there. Driving both dogs and us crazy. We lived in the city, not a suburb, except most of LA is a suburb, and they would be walking down the sidewalks at night, just like people.

Just LOVE these shots! He plumb wore himself out, didn't he?

I enjoy seeing raccoons in teh wild, but they're not so cute when they're destroying your garden. Last year they left me exactly two ears of sweet corn. Grrr...

We once had a baby raccoon we raised for a few months. You don't want them in your yard! Maybe it's the pool they like. If there is a body of water around, they will dunk their food in it. They are cute, tho.

Hmmm, let's see. A family of Racoons enjoying your pool would be very cute.

I hope that the situation resolves itself in a pleasing manner for you. Soon. :)

Oh that guy looks tuckered out from his (ahem...love making). Your got great photos of them and I laughed about them being in your pool! Hope they move along though because you are right they can be destructive and just down right pesky.

The first picture of the raccoon made me laugh. He really wore himself out.
As cute as they are they are a pain in the butt. When my kids were little, still in diapers we had raccoons that were constantly getting in our garbage and ripping apart all the dirty disposable diapers. We started putting our garbage cans in a shed that had sliding doors and they would get the doors open and still get in the garbage. I was so sick of cleaning up after them

Lots of good photos of these characters. They can be a real nuisance though.

To late you have a pool.. now your their favorite house on the block.
We have had them visit us also. They loved me until I drained a bowl of water they were using to wash their food in and checked all the openings under my home.
I spritzed a little ammonia around the vents under my home and it seems to have done the trick. They don't like me as much as they used to.

As cute as their faces are, I don't want any babies here either. Our older dog used to scare them, but our little Bugsy is smaller than they are!

SquirrelQueen said...

Okay, I am now imagining a raccoon pool party. Laying around in the lounge chair, sipping drinks with little umbrellas and talking about all the happenings around the neighborhood. Too bad they don't clean up after themselves.

Better get the nursery ready. LOL!

While I was in the hospital after my 2011 stroke, Hubby was waging all out war with a family of raccoons who took up residence in our attic. Yes, they were destructive.

George said...

I hope there aren't any rowdy pool parties in your future. Your first picture (and caption) is priceless.

Betsy Banks Adams said...

Well---for your sake, I do hope they don't move into your yard permanently....BUT--you should have fun snapping photos if the babies are born nearby and you can see that!!!!! Good Luck with that one.

YES---they can steal entire bird feeders (and unhook them and take them down). WE KNOW.... ha

Hugs,
Betsy

Hope the yard tenants don't decide that your yard and pool are perfect for their new residence, Sandra. Right now, we have young robins in the front yard...cute too and they will be leaving soon.

Oh they are very destructive. In the city they used to swim in our pool at night and also pull of the house shingles off the roof.

They come here but they walk across the yard early evening but no trouble as we have bush all around us. So they love that best. Thank goodness. Even the skunks don't come to stay. In the city both sons have skunks for weeks.

Oh my they have that many births. Oh my.

I hope they don't come to your place neither Sandra.

Best try and check that they have not made a home in your yard perhaps. Or chimney, if you have one...

Debby@Just Breathe said...

Typical male right, sleeping after sex!!! I had no idea they lived 20 years.

Just Mags said...

Racoons are so cute and the babies are adorable, but they can sure do some serious destruction. I know you hope they do not make their home in your yard. That would not be good. 20 years is a long time to live with raccoons. Hugs

What Karen Sees said...

Boy what a dilemma! On one hand, think of all those great photo ops with a bunch of cute little racoon faces to take portraits of....and on the other hand, is it worth the hassle if they are naughty and set up housekeeping in your yard!!! Hmmm, what to do!

Unknown said...

They are kinda cute eventhough i know they can be a pain lol

Michaele said...

Turning off comments did not deter me. I am now officially worried about you. Oh I do hope it is nothing too serious.
I had to laugh at you hoping the babies do not open their eyes and see your yard. LOL!

wow, racoons! they are cute! great shots, sandra!

Great photos! Did they ever take up residence in your yard? Thanks for the link back to this post.

I see I commented up aways. My memory obviously doesn’t go back this far so I am glad I got to see them again.
