Chat-n #1 - Lo-quay-ious

Several years ago, at our YMCA pool, the lifeguard said to my hubby, “isn’t the lady that talks a lot your wife?”
Another time, in the parking lot after AM church services I stood chatting with friends.
My husband and son stood with arms crossed over the chest, hands under armpits.
You know, that “classic stance” men assume when waiting on the little lady.
I heard my 30 year old son say with a huge sigh “My Mom has a black-belt in conversation”.

Anywhere, any time, I chat with people!  In line at the cash register, sitting  in a doctors waiting room, walking across a parking lot. Even at the sink in the public restroom.
I talk to strangers. If they talk back I talk MORE!

Standing in line in Wal-Mart,  I said to the tiny lady in front of me “why in the world do THEY place price stickers on the glass where it leaves sticky glue that can’t be removed. Why don’t they put them on the back where it doesn’t matter?”
In a beautiful drawl, she said “Ah can tell ya how, honey. Drop oil on tha sticka, don’t matta what kind. Soak it, rub it and that sticka will come right off that glass clean as a whistle.”

I came home and removed the stickers by using a few drops of olive oil. Hubby asked how I knew to do that and I said “I learned it from a lady from Kentucky, she is here on vacation with her son and his wife and 2 children and they are staying at the beach, she was so cute, about 90 years old and she said use WD-40, Murphy’s soap oil….  And mid-sentence I realized he was no longer in the kitchen.
I once went into a fit of depression in the waiting room while hubby had 4 hours of surgery.
10 people waiting. Not ONE that would stop punching electronic devices and talk to me.  Believe me, I tried. My comments were met with silence.

The door opened and a man I worked with for years and had not seen since I retired 11 years ago sat down next to me and said “Good morning, how have you been?
I bet his ears are still ringing….

If you’re still with me, this post came about because Myra of Respice Respite posted this article,
Big Word by Sean Dietrich on his blog Sean of the South. He said his dad gave him the word loquacious.
I thought that is MY word!… it means tending to talk a great deal. I am going to spell my version of loquacious like this.  Lo-quay-ious.. isn't that precious? Also the younger generation will know how to pronounce/spell it.
You can call me Mad-Loquay for short. Or maybe MadChatter

I know we could get along because although I'm not good at making conversation if I'm with someone who can keep a conversation going then I'm ok. Although if you are a quiet talker I won't hear what you're saying...lol
I like the new name and I think Mad-Loquay sounds a bit exotic even

I am always happy to natter with anyone who looks promising, but I can be quiet too. What a great tip you picked up; I need to remember that for the next time I am trying to remove stucky stuff!!! YAM xx

LOL, you are the Mad-chatter. I have never heard of that word Loquacious. I do not start conversations but I will talk if someone else starts. My hubby is the talker, he starts and will not stop. Enjoy your day!

This post is priceless! We are the SAME! I always talk and talk to the workers at the grocery store. I know the people at the deli and their story. And the little old man in the bakery! Well...his wife has been sick and I put her on our church prayer line once. He talks to and hugs everyone like me. Now they put him in the back with a broom; he is stifled, and he decorates cakes beautifully. I talk to people in doctor waiting rooms and we compare ailments. You would think the subject of talking to people would be difficult to post about, but this is SO interesting!! I will have to remember the black belt comment, your son is like mine, a GREAT sense of humor.

O,you have made me laugh...you forgot to tell about the guy saying you would have sunburn on your tongue if you worked outside. I think he said it to your husband when you worked at Sears. LOL That is another one of yours that I go back and read...

I talk to everyone, too. Is that a southern thing?

I agree with Ann. I love to talk - but after the first line or two I don't know what to say. I admire conversationalists. We would be able to carry on a conversation! sandie

I have to admit that I like talking to people. Sometimes something so simple can make a person's day! Enjoyed your post.

The new electronics generation is loquacious too; we just can't hear their fingers.
Next time you're in the waiting room ask them for their text #. ;)

I love this post. I feel like you and I would get along just great, if either one of us would stop long enough to listen to the other. LOL

Oh Sandra how you make me smile and giggle to my self.
I think you and my husband would get along famously.
He absolutely talks to any and everyone.
I try but tend to be a bit more reserved..especially in elevators.
You are a delight.
I love your son's description...a Blackbelt in conversation...

MadChat I'm pretty sure we share DNAs somewhere along the way.
I will talk to anyone anywhere. Sometimes they don't share my gift of gab but hey I just move on.
Love this post...black belt in conversation....was that Daniel?
My Yankee cousin used to call me the Mouth of the South

What a delightful surprise! No, not seeing my shout-out (but thank you)..... but realizing you're the sort of charismatic soul I'm instinctively drawn to. Oh, I can hold my own yak-wise once I get to know someone, but it's opening my mouth in the first place that's scary.

My husband was very loquacious too. I thought it was a Southern thing. From what I have hear, Swedes don't even like to ride in an elevator with other people in it. I guess for fear they will have to talk to someone. Fortunately, I got away. And now I talk to everyone too. You did a great job on this post, the way you put it together. Loved it!

Loved this post. You and I would get along fine. I try to start conversations in all different places. I find the Queenslanders are better at it than the southerners. Its great in the village because everyone talks to each other. Its hard for anyone to go for a walk because they end up stopping and talking. Yep the techno age is curtailing oral conversation.

I forgot to mention that eucalyptus oil is good for removing stickers and glue from anything.
A Librarian told me thats what they use to remove stickers from books. I use it all the time.

My daughter is a chatterbox and the rest of my family are much quieter. Oh we can talk just as much as the next person if we have a mind to, but it's just that we prefer being quiet. In other words, we are introverts and she is an extrovert. Nothing wrong with either, it's the way we're made! Loved your son's remark about having a black belt in conversation! lol! Cute.

WOW...that was a LONG winded post/conversation! haha...kidding. I will talk to anyone but then again there are times I rather not talk.

Hahahaha! Kindred spirits we are! My son in law used to laugh at me because I would always get to know people everywhere I went. I even took muffins to the family who owns the cows that I can see from my country front yard. I learned more about him and his wife in one short visit than Dean knew from 10 years of living here.
There is an art to chatting and you are amazing at it! It's their loss if they don't chat back!

That is the most fun post...and I know you would be so much fun to hang out with. I would say...I have never met a stranger and I do like to chat with others in stores, etc. It's funny though....I don't like to talk on the phone. Not sure why! Have a great day! It's chilly....we'll be watching some football later! Hugs!
