Who's been eating Susan's Petals?
Aha! The Culprit. I named him Sammy Snail when I Found him on the wall of the house.
I raced inside and said, I found what is eating the flowers; a snail, and proudly showed Bob this photo.
His only words were.. Did you kill him?
Well, NO, I said indignantly. He replied Did you at least throw him over the fence out of our yard?
No, I left him there.
Next Day...Scroll Down for another Aha! moment
Caught in the ACT! Sebastian Slug, on the new bloom that was half open, I watched him gobble like a turkey with petals disappearing like wood in a chipper.
Yes, I named them both male names because we all KNOW a female would not eat flowers.
No wonder he is so fat, he ate ALL the rose moss flower before he started on the Susan's.
I ask you... Could you kill Sebastian?
Look closely, he has a face!!!
I snailed this! Right???
Just in case you can't sleep tonight wondering if Sebastian was Sammy without his house, NO is the answer. Per Google Girl, Slugs and Snails are same family, Snails do not lose their home, Slugs never have one.... Snailed it! right?

You sure did snail it. That video was rather fascinating. Back when I used to care about gardening and would weed the flower beds I would occasionally come across a slug. I thought they were the grossest things ever and would freak out if I accidentally touched one.
Mol mol 🐌 it. Sebastian the slug blah....and I bet that thick slime excretions purely suffocated Susan too
Great photos
Hugs Madi and mom
Oh my....I hate killing anything except a spider BUT I hate to see my flowers fall the way of food! I have work to do on my flower beds....I cut corners this yr and used top soil, and my beds just did not do much. Going to haul some horse crap from the barn to mix with the existing dirt this fall in hopes this will help my plants next yr. I love your Susan’s.
I never thought about snails eating the flowers. Something used to eat my tomato plants in Atlanta and I never knew what.
Yep, you snailed it!
Sebastian's a cool name! His face reminds me a little of Shari Lewis' Lamb Chop.
Well snails and slugs have to eat too! I enjoyed the video. Thanks for sharing it!
GET OUT!!! NO, unbelievable!!!!! And Mad Journalist has it ALL covered! It doesn't take much to make me happy, and now I have goosebumps and am singing in my head. (not out loud, haven't finished my coffee yet). This is one of my favorite posts of yours EVER!! In ALL the years I have known you!! You FOUND them! When I saw your title, I just couldn't wait to find out. GREAT pictures, and I have never seen a snail or slug face! I didn't even know they eat flowers! Love your comment about how a female would not eat flowers. Your video is like a science fiction movie. And he even turns and LOOKS at us! We have the slugs, with no shell. They leave beautiful silver trails wherever they go, have you seen one? They have to be on a hard surface like cement or asphalt or something. They gather outside our door and are huge, we have to be real careful that we don't step on one. But the silver trails are a tip-off. ALL of your photos are brilliant, crisp, and perfect. I am just so wound up now, you are the BEST! I am just so glad you posted this before the hurricane, so I can see it. My first blog visit of the day, an what a WOW moment!
Definitely snailed it! But, to answer your question...over the fence/wall...in a heart beat.
That was quite the video, Sandra. Even if you did relocate Sammy and Sebastian snail they might have hungry family members. Kudos to you for solving the flower-eating mystery.
You are a very kind soul.I don't think these critters would have fared so well,it=f they had been eating my flowers. Just saying.
I've had slugs eating my lettuce. And, yes, I threw them far away from my garden! You are SO kind :)
I love mr Slug's face
Oh my, it was the snail. You caught him in that act!
I accidentally squished a smug this week and thanks to one of your commenters I now know that the silver wiggles line on the walkway was from a slug. Youtpost on the snail couple was awesome.
Send them packing! You may get more though - GREAT CAPTURING!
I love that you named the snail and the slug. - Okay I must admit I've been a "slug killer" over the years. They are so destructive. The snail probably is too but I usually move them away from the plants (like the next door neighbors who really don't take care of their yard.) Shame on me.
