Bismarkia Palms are common here and a this is their natural color |
When we moved in our house 29 years ago, I was 5'6'', now I am 5'4''... you would not think 2 inches would matter in the kitchen, but it does.
Condiments in over the range cabinets, were easy to reach, Now on tip toes I can barely reach and have to grab with grabber . I can't clean the top of the doors to the cabinets without a ladder which makes me dizzy. Bob can still reach the tops, when I am done with the bottoms I hand him the cloth to do the top 1 foot.
Also have to ask him to get a blanket down off the shelf in the closet. I don't like shrinking.
When walking, I choose my path by how much shade is on the street. It changes daily.

I was 5 foot 2 inches! Now I am 5' 1/2 inch and shrinking....
I can't reach the thing I used to and I am so grateful for a tall husband....who is shrinking as well but not as much! How small will we get???
The same with me! Only I have shrunk 3". Because my back is so curved, it gets worse. I can't reach so many places that I could even two years ago. The tree in the first picture is beautiful! Did you edit it? Because the leaves are such a different color from all the other greens! Almost like a slate green/grey. Or sage.
Last I knew I was 5'2". Not sure what I am now. I already need something to stand on to get to top shelves.
Your blog is great. I read a lot of interesting things from it. Thank you very much for sharing. Hope you will update more news in the future.

I never reached five feet to begin with and am much closer to the floor now than I ever was... YAM xx
The palm trees are beautiful. It's nice to have the shade while you are out walking.
Hello, your neighborhood looks very pretty and peaceful. I love the palm trees, The first one is gorgeous. Have a happy day!
LOL 5'6" to 5'4" that is funny.
I have been 5'3 3/4" (on a big hair day) since I was about 18 y.o. I have never EVER been able to reach anything on top shelves.
I like the color of the palm and the sturdiness of the trunk..a new variety for me.

That is a beautiful palm. About 5'6" at my peak ;). Shorter now but now sure the measurement. I will have to check that out.
I havenever seen one of those palms in a very long time. I was surprised that there are same variety of palm outdoors in Bromley UK. I guess it is not too cold. Here none thrive outdoors as winters are too chilly. I too have gone to less height by 2”. And with use of boron my bone mass is stable. That matters a lot.
I've been holding steady at 5'5" but now you've got shrinking on my mind. I"ll have to keep tabs on myself and monitor my height from now on. I'm glad you're getting out and walking, shade makes a huge difference. In the summer I'm on the look out for shade as well, now our beautiful sunny days are so short that once the sun goes down it's cold.
Take care and enjoy the week!!

Ok Sandra niw you have me thinking that I too may have shrunk a but in recent years. Getting things from the top cupboards is easier with a small step we keep in the pantry. Even if I could reach them all, I would not want to risk dropping anything😊
I guess I am in the same Club as everyone else..I'm shrinking too. 5'2" now was 5/3".
Everything is hard for me to reach. The man that had our home before us remodeled and he made things like the counters tall for his height. My step stool gets a work out.
Glad you are still walking your mile. Hopefully we will get going ourselves.
I just now was caught off guard by the shadow of a squirrel running across our roof. Now I heard it jump to the side fence. Sure don't want them in the attic!
Love the sage like color of the palm!!
I am 5 9"...so my problem is having to stoop down and get things.
I have always been short, but definitely am getting a little shorter. It's hard to rich those higher places, that's why there is a step stool in every room.I enjoy seeing all the greenery around you.
I still people I'm 5'7" … but it's been several decades since I was actually measured. Now that I no longer wear 'high' heels every day, reaching for things above my head has sure made a difference. The step stool that used to sit gathering dust is being used more and more.
I like those Palm Trees. Yeah "shrinking" isn't much fun when you are already short to begin with.
When I had one of my back surgeries, the surgeon separated my vertebrae enough that I grew by an inch... but I'm still only 5'2"... I can't reach anything!
You know what - I have always been short my whole life and I have always had to ask for help - and now I am an inch shorter - not to big a difference for me - lol. sandiae
Funnily enough we were talking about shrinking with a friend this morning. We've both shrunk! Enjoyed your photos around the neighborhood.
Of course it matters. I'm only 5'2" and I'm sticking with that number...LOL! I got me a grabber!!!
