Empty Nest

The baby birds disappeared, one at a time. The nest is Empty, but the Mama and Papa and two of their friends are around. We are 99 percent sure, our resident black snake is he culprit. Sometimes nature's food chain hurts our hearts. We learned a lot about our Big Black Dog. He was an angel and did no harm to adults or babies.
I am trying for a pic of the female... She would sit and let me talk to her, if I was outside by myself. I could see her through the branches listening to me assure her we meant no harm.
I marveled at how the female when sitting on the nest, blended as though she were not there. The bright hues of the male are meant to distract from his family. I had never thought of that before when wondering why the male birds are more beautiful.

I talk to lizards and birds and frogs. Do you?

Papa C continues to brighten our landscape

I talk to birds, squirrels, rabbits, snakes, neighbor's cats; plus (if I don't see any of the neighbors outside) I will caw back at crows, and hoot back at owls (and they respond) and often come closer to see who is cawing or hooting back at them.

I also name the yard pets (except for the birds) and the neighbor's cat which already has a name, but might get called a bad name if they use one of my big flower pots for a litter box while my seeds are waiting to sprout.

The rabbits and squirrels come almost within almost arms reach of me and look right up at me. I think they must be used to seeing me and know I won't hurt them. If my Fuzzy Pomeranian hears me talking to them from inside the house he does a lot of jealous yipping and whining.

Oh that is so sad. I used to have a robin build it's nest in a bush by my front door every year. One year the neighbors cat got in there and got the birds and destroyed the nest in the process.
No lizards or frogs to talk to but I have been known to talk to a bird

Ditto on Ginny's comment.

Aww, I like the fact you talk to the animals!! You are now, officially, Dr. Doolittle of the Mad Snapper Realm!!!

That is so sad. I talk to my birds too. Pretty photos. Enjoy your day!

I agree about the food chain of nature. It sometimes seems birds build their nest in the absolute worse locations too.

What a pity! Our garden birds build have nests in our thick hedge and, of course, we don't have predators like snakes so we see lots of bird activity. My heart lifts when I see the red flash of Robin Redbreast and the brown sparrows and blackbirds bob up and down on top of the high hedge.

What Ginny said! I never thought about the reasoning behind Mr. Cardinal's bright color … makes sense. Yes, I talk to any and all animals. No one's yet proven, just because they can't speak (that) they don't understand.
