Happy 94th Birthday Mama

Mother, in 1944 the year I was born. She was 18 when I was born but turned 19 when I was 3 weeks old
Looking at this photo made me smile. She has on earbobs now known as earrings. The kind that PINCH. She never went out of the house without earbobs... And had a hissy fit when I got my ears pierced in 1965.

Mother would be 94 years old and celebrating her 76th Wedding Anniversary today.  She turned 18 on the day she was married on Sept 22, 1943. I was born Sept 5th, 1944.
(as a small child I caused much grief by telling people I was born on Sept 5th and Mother got married on Sept 22, seems I never said the year when telling this true fact)

Mother left behind a  4 drawer dresser full of Styrofoam egg cartons and each carton had 12 pairs of earbobs just like these. She had one whole carton of them made from tiny shells. She collected shells. The dresser had literally HUNDREDS of earbobs. She never got rid of  a single pair, not even broken ones.

These photos were found on internet by searching vintage earbobs. Not my mothers.

An interesting post. I remember the earlobes which we called earrings. I hated them. How amazing how your mum collected and kept them well organised. She sure did marry young. but as long as she was happy it doesn't matter. We use the term Hissy fit too.

She was so vibrant and beautiful! So, how many of them do you have? How many have you worn?

Your mother was a very pretty lady. I remember those horrid earbobs but we just called them clip on earrings. They hurt your ears but I used to play with my mothers and my aunts when I was little.
Did you keep all the egg carts full of earbobs? Those would be fun to craft with.

Oh yes do I remember earbobs....Don't faint....my Annie Ma (mama's mother)
had pierced ears. Just seemed normal to me. Maybe it was the way things styles recycle. She must have had them don in the late 1800's.
None of her daughters had pierced ears. Probably out of style.
I had mine pierced when I was 28. I was the 2nd gal in the family to have pierced ears. Then shortly after I had mine pierced Mama had hers then
my daughter had hers pierced at ~6 y.o. In high school she wanted double piercing. We told her no. At age 28 she had double piercing. Don't tell her I said so but it looks really cute. She wears a tiny stud in the 2nd piercings and colorful ones in the original piercings. I have a few of my
mother-in-laws earbobs. I have one of Annie Ma's pierced ones. I don't recall that she ever changed earrings. She wore the garnet ones all the time. It was her birthstone and my birthstone too

I was surprised when I was in a store the other day and saw a couple pair of clip on earrings like these. I did not know they still made them. My mom had a few pair of the ones that your screwed on that she gave me many years ago. I have a part on one pair that I need to fix and convert over. One pair that my dad brought back from Japan I converted to pierced years ago. I love them. I also went to Hobby Lobby and got some beads that would somewhat match the earrings to make a necklace. I love those. They are over 60 years old. ANother pair I played with as a child when playing dress up. They are blue blingy ones and not something I would wear today, however, I still have them. Loving your moms pink and purple ones. Nice...

I remember them, too...my mom did not wear any at all. But Roger's grandmother did. But not like your mom.

What a beauty, your mom!
I'd totally forgotten those clip-on earrings. (Never heard them called earbobs.) I so wanted to look grown-up, but when I'd try my mother's they pinched so bad. This was about the time my father believed nice Protestant girls didn't pierce their ears. Go figure: Later, he was the one who bought me my first pair of pierced earrings and paid to have my lobes pierced. Ha!

PS - That's a great idea about using egg crates to hold her earbobs!

Oh Sandra, your Mom is lovely. I love the story about the earbobs. Never heard them called that.
My Mom wore clip on earrings to church and anytime she would "dress up"
I think she was brought up in a strict household where "good girls" didn't wear pierced earrings especially.
I still have a few pieces of her jewelry but most is gone. She never had expensive things just nice costume things.
A day full of emotions yesterday..I will fill you in later.

What a sweet treasure of a tale of your mother's love for shells & earrings. I truly enjoyed reading. Funny about birthday/anniversary

What good memories! My mother also wore ear-bobs. But she was not a fan of the pinching. She and her sister pierced each other's ears when I was a kid.

I have never had pierced ears! and I still wear clip on earrings. AND I am like your mother because as soon as I get up - I put my earrings on. And perfume. Even if I barely comb my hair and wear no make up!

Amber has pierced ears.....several peircings in each one. And she wears a diamond stud in her nose. She also had her navel peirced when she was 18 but that didn't last long.

Summer has pierced ears and my Benjamin has a lip piercing and maybe a tongue one. He doesn't wear the rings often though, I don't think because I have't noticed them lately.
